External cost of road traffic, identified as the highest among traffic modes, is an important indicator of the European Union's transport policy to shift traffic off the road to a more ...environmentally acceptable mode. Ferry traffic generates benefits to each port of call in localities having invested in port infrastructure, and there is an interest of the local community to have their own ferry line, especially on islands. Two alternative ferry lines have been created combining maritime and road traffic on the specific route from the town of Vis to the town of Komiža and compared from the external costs standpoint. The first alternative ferry line comprises one port of call in the town of Vis, combining it with a road modality to and from the town of Komiža. In the second alternative, the road traffic has been excluded and two ferry ports of call have been introduced, one towards the town of Vis and the other by extending the ferry voyage to the town of Komiža. The results show the model of one port of call with the integration of more road traffic on the specific route as a better solution. Despite the use of ultra-low sulphur diesel fuel on ferries, the absence of congestion in road traffic on the island of Vis and generally slow implementation of modern emission standards in maritime traffic, road traffic seems to provide a better solution as an environmentally more acceptable mode on this route.

The harmfulness of plastic waste on marine organisms and species has been demonstrated. Throwing and dumping plastic waste is causing damage to the environment, causing economic damage to activities ...such as tourism, fisheries, and sea traffic, and can affect people's health through the food chain. The paper will outline ways and measures to prevent the introduction of single-use plastic into the marine environment as well as the possibility of producing biodegradable plastics. Through this paper concept of marine waste and its impact on the environment, as well as the legal regulation of the protection of the sea and the marine environment will be analysed. Reducing the production of single-use plastics reduces its disposal to the marine environment, and the production of plastic that can be composted allows for a permanent reduction in the disposal of plastic waste into the marine environment. If it is desired to achieve a circular life cycle for plastics, measures must be taken to increase the generation of plastic waste and its release into the environment. It is considered that the active support of the recycled plastics market should be encouraged by the use of environmental materials and high quality recycling in order to achieve the ultimate goal of reducing the amount of plastic waste in the environment.

Otoci su izloženi sve većim pritiscima gradnje, pogotovo turističkih naselja i prateće uslužne infrastrukture, što zahtijeva osiguravanje dostatnih količina pitke vode. Problem vodoopskrbe se za sada ...uglavnom rješava izmiještanjem vode iz prirodnih vodotoka, poglavito gradnjom vodoopskrbnih cjevovoda napajanih vodom iz izdašnijih vodonosnika na obali, čime se ne potiče njezino očuvanje i ponovna uporaba. U radu se analizira razlika pristupa gospodarenja vodom na strani ponude i na strani potražnje, daje prikaz decentraliziranih tehnologija i ponovne uporabe vode uz navođenje svjetskih otočnih iskustava, pruža osvrt na ekološke probleme vezane uz desalinizaciju, te predlaže primjereniji pristup gospodarenju vodom za hrvatske otoke, s naglaskom na obrazovanje. Republika Hrvatska treba iznaći i razvijati model održivog upravljanja vodom na otocima, te ga postupno širiti na obalu i kopno.
Luke imaju velik gospodarski značaj, ali također predstavljaju značajan izvor onečišćenja, bilo od brodskog tereta ili otpada koji nastaje na brodu. Koncept zelene luke primjenjuje se kao nova ...paradigma koja nastoji uskladiti lučke aktivnosti s okolišnim i socijalnim pitanjima bez ugrožavanja gospodarskog rasta, čime postaje sinonim za održivu luku. Uz nužnost uvođenja redovitog uzorkovanja mora u luci, potrebno je koristiti i nove dostupne tehnologije kao što je daljinsko istraživanje s ciljem unaprjeđenja nadzora nad kvalitetom vode i efikasnije kontrole onečišćenja morskih prostora, čime se pospješuje održivost luka. U radu se daje prikaz dostupnih aktualnih alata za analizu kvalitete mora te se analiziraju mogućnosti daljinskog istraživanja stanja kvalitete morskog okoliša na primjeru područja luke Rijeka, najveće luke u Republici Hrvatskoj.
U radu se obrađuju razlozi i koncept gradnje autonomnih kuća u Istri, te način korištenja energije i materijalnih resursa. Pojašnjava se princip samostalne izrade fotonaponskih sustava i solarnih ...kolektora na krovištu kuće, sakupljanje vode i njezino skladištenje uz opis primjer vlastite izrade calabash sustava kao cisterne za vodu, sustav kućne odvodnje i kompostiranje biorazgradivog otpada. Analizira se industrijska konoplja kao moguć građevinski materijal, pojašnjava se armiranje, izrada kompozita i izolacije od iste. Kod razrade kuća od bala sijena obrazlažu se njihove prednosti i jednostavnost izgradnje. Opisuju se klimatske vrijednosti Istre koje pogoduju izradu autonomnih kuća, te predlaže integriranje sadržaja o gradnji autonomne kuće u nastavu tehničke kulture.
Coastal environment, its natural world, and humans, are besides climate change effects subject to
significant pressures by maritime-related, tourism, energy, aquaculture, and other sectors, all ...resulting
in chemical pollution of all environmental components, noise pollution, and visual pollution. Humans
attempt to adapt, mainly through devising and applying technological solutions. The senses incorporate
the environment into the body and there is a mismatch between the way senses evolved and present
surroundings, causing the disruption of visual acuity, smell, taste, and hearing. The disruptions to
sensory landscape have thus altered the relationships between the organisms and the environment. The
perceptual world or ‘umwelt’ differs for each organism. The impacts of environmental alterations to
sensory landscape disrupt human sensory functioning, resulting in health impacts. Habitat disturbance
in aquatic environments caused by acidification, contaminants, noise, optical degradation, elevated
temperature, and electromagnetic fields can severely impact animal sensory biology. The paper focuses
on sensory system responses of both humans and the wildlife to anthropogenically-induced and climate
changes, reviews the issues resulting therefrom, and proposes solutions.
Rad daje analizu djelatnosti gospodarenja vodom i otpadom u Republici Hrvatskoj utemeljenu na načelima ekološkog inženjerstva. Razmatra se komunalni sektor koji ima dugu tradiciju u Hrvatskoj, te se ...daje prikaz buduće reforme s ciljem povećanja njegove učinkovitosti. Posebno se ocjenjuje uloga tvrtke Hrvatske vode, specifične tvorevine čija inačica se ne može pronaći u drugim državama. Autor se zalaže za inovativna i za okoliš prihvatljiva decentralizirana rješenja u obradi otpadnih voda zbog niskog udjela gradskog stanovništva, potreba za zaštitom podzemnih voda, površinskih voda i mora, niže cijene i mogućnosti etapne izgradnje, sa malim postrojenjima za ponovno korištenje materijalne i energetske vrijednosti iz otpada. Autor utvrđuje sadašnje odgovore u DPSIR okviru i predlaže skupinu odgovora koji bi bili održiviji. Komunalne usluge treba sagledati unutar šireg okvira zaštite okoliša, a na gospodarenje otpadom treba gledati kao na pokretač gospodarskog razvoja, a ne uslugu zbrinjavanja.
Rad analizira društveni, tehnički, prostorni i komercijalni okvir pružanja i korištenja komunalnih usluga koji doživljava promjene. Novi pritisci za promjenom, pored privatizacije i liberalizacije ...tržišta komunalnih usluga također podrazumijevaju strože ekološke standarde, naročito u priobalnom području, nove oblike gospodarskih poticaja, visoke troškove modernizacije mreže, utakmicu među sve većim brojem prihvatljivih tehnologija, neizvjesnost u pogledu budućih obrazaca potrošnje i prekapacitiranost u nekim mrežama. Posebna pažnja je usmjerena na područje vodoopskrbe, odvodnje i gospodarenja otpadom te se predlažu moguća rješenja za kontrolu kvalitete usluga od strane javnih vlasti.
Emissions produced by the fuel combustion in marine engines are one of major causes of the marine environment pollution and have negative impact on both human health and the environment. That impact ...is more pronounced for vessels which mostly operate near ports and inhabited areas, such as ro-ro passenger ships. In order to evaluate the environmental impact of a ship, a life cycle assessment of a ro-ro passenger vessel operating in the Adriatic Sea has been performed. Two different power system designs were investigated, i.e. lithium-ion battery-driven vessel and diesel engine-driven vessel. The analyses were performed by means of general LCA software GREET 2018, where the life cycle for both power system designs is divided in two stages: constitutive parts of the first stage are processes from life cycle of fuel without its use in vessel, while vessel operation represents the second stage. The analysis showed that diesel engine-driven vessel emits 79.740 kg CO2-eq/nm, versus battery-driven vessel with 27.471 kg CO2-eq/nm.
