The synthetic thermoplastic polymer polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is becoming a popular component of clinical orthopedic and spinal applications, but its practical use suffers from several limitations. ...Although PEEK is biocompatible, chemically stable, radiolucent and has an elastic modulus similar to that of normal human bone, it is biologically inert, preventing good integration with adjacent bone tissues upon implantation. Recent efforts have focused on increasing the bioactivity of PEEK to improve the bone-implant interface. Two main strategies have been used to overcome the inert character of PEEK. One approach is surface modification to activate PEEK through surface treatment alone or in combination with a surface coating. Another strategy is to prepare bioactive PEEK composites by impregnating bioactive materials into PEEK substrate. Researchers believe that modified bioactive PEEK will have a wide range of orthopedic applications.
Abstract
Tuning metal–support interaction has been considered as an effective approach to modulate the electronic structure and catalytic activity of supported metal catalysts. At the atomic level, ...the understanding of the structure–activity relationship still remains obscure in heterogeneous catalysis, such as the conversion of water (alkaline) or hydronium ions (acid) to hydrogen (hydrogen evolution reaction, HER). Here, we reveal that the fine control over the oxidation states of single-atom Pt catalysts through electronic metal–support interaction significantly modulates the catalytic activities in either acidic or alkaline HER. Combined with detailed spectroscopic and electrochemical characterizations, the structure–activity relationship is established by correlating the acidic/alkaline HER activity with the average oxidation state of single-atom Pt and the Pt–H/Pt–OH interaction. This study sheds light on the atomic-level mechanistic understanding of acidic and alkaline HER, and further provides guidelines for the rational design of high-performance single-atom catalysts.
As the latest product of the innovative integration of information technology, big data has had a huge impact on many fields. Big data technology has changed the traditional audit method, expanded ...the scope and field of auditing, and injected vitality into the national big data audit work. Full audit coverage has given social auditing a new mission and posed new challenges to creating mega data audit platforms. Driven by the overall goal of full audit coverage, the construction and innovation of a big data audit platform are particularly important. This subject combines data-related technologies and uses more mature data mining algorithms to try to establish an audit platform, and analyzes the three aspects of requirements, concepts and strategies for building an audit platform, dividing it into five modules: data center, acquisition, pre-processing, analysis and data visualization. The research results show that by predicting the revenue indicators of Company A, the overall error of the prediction results of the big data audit platform is controlled at 0.79%, which is better than 8.42% of the traditional audit model; by scoring the two audit models, the score of the big data audit method is 0.7024 higher than that of the traditional model, which is 0.3933, indicating that its accuracy, efficiency comprehensiveness, sustainability, and low risk are In this way, this paper explores a new effective audit path and method, which provides a good basis for the enterprise’s “industry price, quality and trust payment” and guides the way forward for future mega Data audits.
In an attribute-based strong designated verifier signature, a signer who satisfies the access structure signs the message and assigns it to a verifier who satisfies the access structure to verify it, ...which enables fine-grained access control for signers and verifiers. Such signatures are used in scenarios where the identity of the signer needs to be protected, or where the public verifiability of the signature is avoided and only the designated recipient can verify the validity of the signature. To address the problem that the overall overhead of the traditional attribute-based strong designated verifier signature scheme is relatively large, an efficient attribute-based strong designated verifier signature scheme based on elliptic curve cryptography is proposed, as well as a security analysis of the new scheme given in the standard model under the difficulty of the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP). On the one hand, the proposed scheme is based on elliptic curve cryptography and uses scalar multiplication on elliptic curves, which is computationally lighter, instead of bilinear pairing, which has a higher computational overhead in traditional attribute-based signature schemes. This reduces the computational overhead of signing and verification in the system, improves the efficiency of the system, and makes the scheme more suitable for resource-constrained cloud end-user scenarios. On the other hand, the proposed scheme uses LSSS (Linear Secret Sharing Schemes) access structure with stronger access policy expression, which is more efficient than the "And" gate or access tree access structure, making the computational efficiency of the proposed scheme meet the needs of resource-constrained cloud end-users.
Mitochondrial autophagy plays an important role in maintaining the complexity of mitochondrial functions and removing damaged mitochondria, of which the PINK1-Parkin signal pathway is one of the most ...classical pathways. Thus, a comprehensive and in-depth interpretation of the PINK1-Parkin signal pathway might deepen our understanding on the impacts of mitochondrial autophagy. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a classical example of neurodegenerative disease. Research on the pathogenesis and treatments of AD has been a focus of scientific research because of its complexity and the limitations of current drug therapies. It was reported that the pathogenesis of AD might be related to mitochondrial autophagy due to excessive deposition of Aβ protein and aggravation of the phosphorylation of Tau protein. Two key proteins in the PINK1-Parkin signaling pathway, PINK1 and Parkin, have important roles in the folding and accumulation of Aβ protein and the phosphorylation of Tau protein. In addition, the intermediate signal molecules in the PINK1-Parkin signal pathway also have certain effects on AD. In this paper, we first described the role of PINK1-Parkin signal pathway on mitochondrial autophagy, then discussed and analyzed the effect of the PINK1-Parkin signal pathway in AD and other metabolic diseases. Our aim was to provide a theoretical direction to further elucidate the pathogenesis of AD and highlight the key molecules related to AD that could be important targets used for AD drug development.

At the genus level, the dominant fungi were Ascomycota, Sordariales, Tetracladium and Geomyces in soil, Aureobasidium and Pleosporaceae in grapes leaves, Aureobasidium in grape and grape juice. The dominant bacteria were Kaistobacter, Arthrobacter, Skermanella and Sphingomonas in soil, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter and Kaistobacter in grape and grapes leaves, and Oenococcus in grape juice and wine. Principal coordinate analysis showed structural separation between the composition of fungi and bacteria in all samples. This is the first study to understand microbiome population in soil, grape, grapes leaves, grape juice and wine in Xinjiang through High-throughput Sequencing and identify microorganisms like Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Oenococcus spp. that may contribute to the quality and flavor of wine.
Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) exhibits stable chemical properties, excellent biocompatibility, and rational mechanical properties that are similar to those of human cortical bone, but the lack of ...bioactivity impedes its clinical application.
In this study, hydroxyapatite (HA) was incorporated into PEEK to fabricate HA/PEEK biocomposite using a compounding and injection-molding technique. The tensile properties of the prepared HA/PEEK composites (HA content from 0 to 40 wt%) were tested to choose an optimal HA content. To evaluate the bioactivity of the composite, the cell attachment, proliferation, spreading and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of MC3T3-E1 cells, and apatite formation after immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF), and osseointegration in a rabbit cranial defect model were investigated. The results were compared to those from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and pure PEEK.
By evaluating the tensile properties and elastic moduli of PEEK composite samples/PEEK composites with different HA contents, the 30 wt% HA/PEEK composite was chosen for use in the subsequent tests. The results of the cell tests demonstrated that PEEK composite samples/PEEK composite exhibited better cell attachment, proliferation, spreading, and higher ALP activity than those of UHMWPE and pure PEEK. Apatite islands formed on the HA/PEEK composite after immersion in SBF for 7 days and grew continuously with longer time periods. Animal tests indicated that bone contact and new bone formation around the HA/PEEK composite were more obvious than those around UHMWPE and pure PEEK.
The HA/PEEK biocomposite created by a compounding and injection-molding technique exhibited enhanced osteogenesis and could be used as a candidate of orthopedic implants.
During clathrin-mediated endocytosis in yeast cells, short actin filaments (< 200nm) and crosslinking protein fimbrin assemble to drive the internalization of the plasma membrane. However, the ...organization of the actin meshwork during endocytosis remains largely unknown. In addition, only a small fraction of the force necessary to elongate and pinch off vesicles can be accounted for by actin polymerization alone. In this paper, we used mathematical modeling to study the self-organization of rigid actin filaments in the presence of elastic crosslinkers in conditions relevant to endocytosis. We found that actin filaments condense into either a disordered meshwork or an ordered bundle depending on filament length and the mechanical and kinetic properties of the crosslinkers. Our simulations also demonstrated that these nanometer-scale actin structures can store a large amount of elastic energy within the crosslinkers (up to 10kBT per crosslinker). This conversion of binding energy into elastic energy is the consequence of geometric constraints created by the helical pitch of the actin filaments, which results in frustrated configurations of crosslinkers attached to filaments. We propose that this stored elastic energy can be used at a later time in the endocytic process. As a proof of principle, we presented a simple mechanism for sustained torque production by ordered detachment of crosslinkers from a pair of parallel filaments.
The rapid development of mobile Internet has offered the opportunity for WiFi indoor positioning to come under the spotlight due to its low cost. However, nowadays the accuracy of WiFi indoor ...positioning cannot meet the demands of practical applications. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an improved WiFi indoor positioning algorithm by weighted fusion. The proposed algorithm is based on traditional location fingerprinting algorithms and consists of two stages: the offline acquisition and the online positioning. The offline acquisition process selects optimal parameters to complete the signal acquisition, and it forms a database of fingerprints by error classification and handling. To further improve the accuracy of positioning, the online positioning process first uses a pre-match method to select the candidate fingerprints to shorten the positioning time. After that, it uses the improved Euclidean distance and the improved joint probability to calculate two intermediate results, and further calculates the final result from these two intermediate results by weighted fusion. The improved Euclidean distance introduces the standard deviation of WiFi signal strength to smooth the WiFi signal fluctuation and the improved joint probability introduces the logarithmic calculation to reduce the difference between probability values. Comparing the proposed algorithm, the Euclidean distance based WKNN algorithm and the joint probability algorithm, the experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm has higher positioning accuracy.
Hua’er, a peculiar type of folk song in Northwest China, can be translated by referring to English love poems to recreate analogous but fundamentally different intertextual relations in English. The ...intertextuality perspective of translation enables the translator to see the rendition not as a product but as one of the numerous interpretive possibilities. Seen in this light, translating romantic Hua’er is able to open up one of many dialogues with English language and culture. By analyzing pieces of romantic Hua’er which the author translated, this paper aims to explore ways of representing the original intertextual relations in the English cultural context through three specific situations where the intertexts within Hua’er are recreated in the receiving language. The three ways are reproducing by substitution for intertexts likely to remain unrecognized in English, retaining intertexts with distinctive Chinese characteristics and constructing intertexts in a new context familiar to English readers.
