The paper presents and analyses the comparative results of a questionnaire on attitudes of the Croatian public (N=3,420) and officers of the Croatian Armed Forces (N=596) with regard to the accession ...to NATO of the Republic of Croatia, conducted in 2008. Accession to NATO
was identified as the most favourable foreign political option for national security by a relative majority of the citizens (37%) and by more than three quarters of the officers (76.1%). Support for joining NATO in a hypothetical referendum would be given by almost twice as many citizens
(42.9%) in relation to the number of those opposing it (23.1%), and almost four fifths of the officers (78.3%) would vote for accession. Public expectations about the possible consequences of the country’s accession 389 to NATO are mostly favourable with regard to the majority of the military security, political and economic consequences. An exception is the expected increased exposure of the country to terrorist attacks (shared by the officers) and possible limitation of the
political autonomy of the state. Mostly negative consequences are also expected by the public at the local social and environmental levels. The estimates of the officers are more positive in relation to the majority of the expected military security, political and economic consequences, while,
unlike the public, they do not expect any negative consequences on the social and environmental levels. On the whole, the results indicate a relative conformity between the public’s orientation and the orientation of the officers, although the officers more prominently support the accession
to NATO.
European energy and ancillary service markets have recently undergone many changes. Some were structural, such as the go-live of balancing energy trading platforms MARI and PICASSO, while others, ...like price spikes, were consequences of world events. These changes may negatively impact tools that rely on data stationarity, especially machine learning-based models. We use the energy and ancillary service market data for Croatia, France and Germany to determine prerequisites for predicting manual frequency restoration reserve (mFRR) capacity and balancing energy prices. We present a statistical analysis of the data, and draw conclusions about the steps necessary for training machine learning models on this data.
This report is a unique case of three stress fractures in a 14-year-old active female basketball player and we emphasize the importance of triple-phase bone scanning in differential diagnosis of the ...stress fracture. According to radiographic examination and laboratory tests, which were normal, the stress fracture of the right fibula was strongly suspected while making the diagnosis. Despite the treatment applied, recurrence, and deterioration of the symptoms were presented. Repeated laboratory test results were again normal, but the presence of an abundant periosteal reaction on the plain radiographs was confusing, so osteomyelitis or Ewing sarcoma of the fibula was suspected. We decided to perform a three-phase bone scanning; its findings were critical for the judgment and we diagnosed three stress fractures involving both fibulae. Final confirmation of the diagnosis of the bilateral fibular stress fractures in our case, however, was done by computed tomography examination.
Urothelial cancer is the most common bladder cancer. Hematuria is the most common presenting symptom in patients with bladder cancer. The most common diagnostics of bladder cancer is performed by ...transurethral resection of bladder after which pathohistological diagnosis is set. It is necessary to determine whether the cancer penetrated in muscle layer (muscle-invasive cancer) or not (muscle-noninvasive cancer). Decision on therapeutic modality depends on the clinical stage of disease and on prognostic and risk factors. For muscle non-invasive bladder cancer transurethral resection is preferred with or without intravesical instillation of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG). For invasive cancer the method of choice is radical cystectomy. Radiotherapy is used in radical and palliative purposes. Metastatic disease is most frequently treated by chemotherapy metotrexate/vinblastine/doxorubicine/cisplatin (MVAC) or gemcitabine/cisplatin (GC). The purpose of this article is to present clinical recommendations to set standards of procedures and criteria in diagnostics, treatment and follow up of patients with bladder cancer in the Republic of Croatia.
This study evaluated a new tibial torsiometer that is universally applicable to all limb sizes and requires no special training, jigs, or radiographic equipment. To compare the reliability of ...measurements obtained with the torsiometer, 160 tibias were evaluated with both the torsiometer and computed tomography. Results for both methods were identical in 51 tibias, within 1 degrees in 66 tibias, and within 2 degrees in 43 tibias. The difference between the two methods was not significantly different. No significant differences were found among examiners. This device should prove to be useful for the quantification of tibial torsion.
Intraventricular neoplasms are uncommon central nervous system lesions that account for only 10% of all neoplasms and are unusual location of metastatic breast cancer. A 73-year-old woman with a ...medical history of breast carcinoma without any signs of metastatic lesions in the liver, lungs or bones and with an intraventricular tumorous lesion found on multislice computed tomography of the brain is presented. Surgery was indicated in order to confirm the diagnosis histologically and to gain local control of the metastasis. The patient was operated on using the neuronavigation guided transcortical approach. The tumor was removed using the Cavitron ultrasonic aspirator. Histopathologic examination revealed a metastatic breast carcinoma. Postoperative irradiation of the whole brain was performed.
There are only a few reported cases of synovial chondromatosis affecting pisotriquetral joint (PT). Osteoarthritis of the PT is also rare and can be as disabling as osteoarthritis of any other joint. ...We report this to be the unique case of synovial chondromatosis of the PT joint with secondary osteoarthritis.
With the increasing share of variable renewable energy sources in the power system, electricity prices are becoming more and more volatile and uncertain. This means that electricity market ...participants are experiencing issues related to trading activities as wrong electricity forecast can lead to wrong schedules and reduced profits. The state-of-the-art literature offers wide range of electricity price forecasting tools which build upon historical prices as well as various exogenous variables as inputs. The deep neural network algorithms are prevailing in literature and impose as the most advanced tools. In this paper we propose a long-short-term-memory network using only historic price, its timestamp and additional features engineered on top of that price. We will elaborate which features affect the forecasting and show how the algorithms trained on prices before significant change in trends behave when unexpected prices occur, such as those in the second half of 2021. The first research outcome is that proper feature selection can have significant impact on forecasting accuracy, for example day-of-week and statistical properties of last 24 or 168 hours increase the accuracy noticeably. The second one is that when drastic trend changes occur in the historical data it may show that using last few months as a test dataset is not a proper way to handle the issue. Better results are achieved if the test dataset is taken as certain months during the year.
