The purpose of this research is to evaluate the results of arthroscopic suture fixation with fiber wires used as treatment for ACL avulsion fracture, and to determine how effective such a technique ...is when it comes to restoring of knee function. This prospective study involves 28 patients, who underwent arthroscopic fixation of displaced ACL avulsion fractures at Saint Paul Hospital (Hanoi) from January 2014 to March 2018. The first 3 weeks were not marked with any abnormalities associated with postoperative sutures and hematomas; infectious complications were not detected either. Postoperative displacement of fracture fragments did not take place among the patients involved in the study. At the 3-month follow-up, the average IKDC score was 90.7 (range 76–100), and the average Lysholm score was 93.6 (range 82–100). The percentage of excellent scores was 42.9% (12 patients), good scores accounted for 50% (14 patients), while fair/poor scores accounted for 3.6% each (one patient on each score). The percentage of excellent/good scores was 92.9% in total. This study shows that ACL avulsion fracture can be treated effectively by arthroscopic suture fixation with fiber wires. In fact, this technique may restore knee function and stability.
A ship’s position as determined by the observation of celestial bodies is a traditional method with important advantages, such as reliability, independence and a low cost. Global satellite navigation ...systems, with many outstanding advantages in terms of accuracy and continuity, have become the main method of ship positioning in offshore navigation. Ship positioning using celestial body observation is still a backup method in the event of unusual incidents. Currently, during the daytime, it is only possible to apply the celestial navigation method to determine the ship’s position by observing the altitude of the sun. In order to reduce geometrical errors, this traditional method requires time for a certain change of the azimuth of the sun and therefore depends much on estimated errors and the effects of external conditions. Moreover, the basic requirement of the backup method is to provide a ship position quickly during offshore navigation, without the position being determined by a global satellite positioning system. To overcome the above limitations, the paper proposes a new approach to determine a ship's position by simultaneously observing the altitude and azimuth of the sun. A program for calculating the position of a ship with high reliability and applicability based on the new algorithm is also devised and shown to be highly effective in practice.
Multifunctional magneto-luminescent nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesised by an ultrasonic wave-assisted Stöber method. The multifunctional NPs are composed of magnetic NPs (Fe3O4) and ...photoluminescent quantum dots (QDs) (ZnS:Mn) in amorphous silica (SiO2) matrix, which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, Raman scattering spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The multifunctional NPs have high saturation magnetisation at room temperature simultaneously with strong photoluminescence (PL) in visible light, which is promising for biomedical applications.
The water scarcity crisis is becoming more severe across the globe and recycled water has been suggested as a feasible solution to the crisis. However, expanding the use of potable and recycled ...public water has been hindered by public acceptance. Previous studies suggest threat perception and trust of provided information have positive linear relationships with recycled water acceptance. However, given the complex filtering role of trust in the human mental process, we argue that the effects of threat perception and trust may have non-linear relationships with acceptance of recycled water for drinking. To support and validate this argument, we employed Bayesian Mindsponge Framework analytics on 726 Spanish residents. We found that individuals more concerned about water shortage are less likely to accept using recycled water for drinking if their trust in the water quality and safety is low. Meanwhile, people more concerned about water shortage are more likely to accept using recycled water for drinking if they trust the water quality and safety. The findings suggest the non-linear relationships between threat perception, trust, and recycled water acceptance while validating mindsponge-based reasoning. Moreover, the results also highlight the importance of trust in influencing the mental process’s outcome: recycled water acceptance.
The global water crisis is being exacerbated by climate change, even in the United States. Recycled water is a feasible alternative to alleviate the water shortage, but it is constrained by humans’ ...perceptions. The current study examines how residents’ water scarcity awareness and climate change belief influence their willingness to use recycled water directly and indirectly. Bayesian Mindsponge Framework (BMF) analytics was employed on a dataset of 1831 residents in Albuquerque, New Mexico, an arid inland region in the US. We discovered that residents’ willingness to use direct recycled potable water is positively affected by their awareness of water scarcity, but the effect is conditional on their belief in the impacts of climate change on the water cycle. Meanwhile, the willingness to use indirect recycled potable water is influenced by water scarcity awareness, and the belief in climate change further enhances this effect. These findings implicate that fighting climate change denialism and informing the public of the water scarcity situation in the region can contribute to the effectiveness and sustainability of long-term water conservation and climate change alleviation efforts.
Extended producer responsibility (EPR) serves as a policy instrument, ensuring that manufacturers and importers of specific products bear responsibility for their collection, recycling, and disposal ...once consumed, thereby alleviating the public financial burden of waste management whilst enhancing recycling rates. Registration, an integral component of EPR systems, denotes the identification of obliged manufacturers and importers, and the accumulation of sales data for products subject to EPR. The principal functions of the registry encompass: delineating manufacturers and importers with EPR obligations; reporting aggregated data; and overseeing the adherence of manufacturers and importers in executing their extended responsibilities. This paper encapsulates the experiences of several countries with respect to the organisation and administration of registration agencies for manufacturers and importers of packaging, proffering potential recommendations for Vietnam.
In recent years, the economic model in Bach Long Vi island district has been maintained on a small scale, spontaneously, and heavily influenced by natural factors. Additionally, the impacts of ...climate change and the degradation of natural resources and the environment are increasing burdens on local socio-economic development. Therefore, this study aims to examine and build a compatible green economic model to help adapt to climate change and prevent natural disasters in the island district. The authors have researched and built a green economic model with three main activities (fishery logistics, tourism, and aquaculture), helping economic growth, improving people’s quality of life, and minimising the negative impact on the ecological system. The effectiveness of the green economic model is evaluated through a set of criteria with many contents, such as economic efficiency, the ability to create jobs and improve people’s living standards, and the level of renewable energy use, ecological and environmental conservation. In the end, groups of general and specific solutions are proposed to help strengthen the development and implementation of green economic models in the island district, ensuring adaptation to climate change, disaster prevention, and assurance of efficiency and sustainability for the environment, economy, and society.
