ABSTRACT
High time resolution and accuracy are of critical importance in the studies of timing analysis and time delay localization of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs) and ...pulsars. The Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) consisting of two micro-satellites, GECAM-A and GECAM-B, launched on 2020 December 10, is aimed at monitoring and locating X-ray and GRBs all over the sky. To achieve its scientific goals, GECAM is designed to have the highest time resolution (0.1 $\mu {\rm s}$) among all GRB detectors ever flown. Here, we make a comprehensive time calibration campaign including both on-ground and on-orbit tests to derive not only the relative time accuracy of GECAM satellites and detectors, but also the absolute time accuracy of GECAM-B. Using the on-ground calibration with a $\rm ^{22}Na$ radioactive source, we find that the relative time accuracy between GECAM-A and GECAM-B is about 0.15 $\mu {\rm s}$ (1σ). To measure the relative time accuracy between all detectors of a single GECAM satellite, cosmic-ray events detected on orbit are utilized since they could produce many secondary particles simultaneously record by multiple detectors. We find that the relative time accuracy among all detectors onboard GECAM-B is about 0.12 $\mu {\rm s}$ (1σ). Finally, we use the novel Li-CCF method to perform the absolute time calibration with Crab pulsar and SGR J1935+2154, both of which were jointly observed by GECAM-B and Fermi/GBM, and obtain that the time difference between GECAM-B and Fermi/GBM is 3.06 ± 6.04 $\mu {\rm s}$ (1σ).
Abstract Astrophysical jets play crucial roles in star formation and transporting angular momentum away from accretion discs, however, their collimation mechanism is still a subject of much debate ...due to the limitations of astronomical observational techniques and facilities. Here, a quasi-static toroidal magnetic field is generated through the interaction between lasers and a four-post nickel target, and our all-optical laboratory experiments reveal that a wide-angle plasma plume can be collimated in the presence of toroidal magnetic fields. Besides the confinement effects, the experiments show the jet can also be accelerated by the enhanced thermal pressure due to the toroidal magnetic fields compressing the flow. These findings are verified by radiation magneto-hydrodynamic simulations. The experimental results suggest certain astrophysical narrow plasma flows may be produced by the confinement of wide-angle winds through toroidal fields.
The target backsheath field acceleration mechanism is one of the main mechanisms of laser-driven proton acceleration (LDPA) and strongly depends on the comprehensive performance of the ultrashort ...ultra-intense lasers used as the driving sources. The successful use of the SG-II Peta-watt (SG-II PW) laser facility for LDPA and its applications in radiographic diagnoses have been manifested by the good performance of the SG-II PW facility. Recently, the SG-II PW laser facility has undergone extensive maintenance and a comprehensive technical upgrade in terms of the seed source, laser contrast and terminal focus. LDPA experiments were performed using the maintained SG-II PW laser beam, and the highest cutoff energy of the proton beam was obviously increased. Accordingly, a double-film target structure was used, and the maximum cutoff energy of the proton beam was up to 70 MeV. These results demonstrate that the comprehensive performance of the SG-II PW laser facility was improved significantly.
We tried to determine whether postoperative CNS complications after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABG) are related to prior cerebral infarction or intracranial artery disease. ...Fiftyfive patients (among them, 40 men; mean age 64.6 ± 8.9 years) subjected to OPCABG underwent neurological and neuropsychological examinations 24 h before surgery. MRI was used to identify old and/or new ischemic lesions before surgery, and MRA was used to determine the presence and severity of intracranial artery disease. The patients were examined eight days after surgery; possible development of stroke or cognitive dysfunction was evaluated. Associations between postoperative stroke and potential predictors, including prior cerebral infarction and intracranial artery disease, were analyzed using univariate methods. Two of 55 (3.64%) patients had postoperative stroke, and no patient showed cognitive decline. Univariate analysis found no significant association between postoperative stroke and prior cerebral infarction detected by MRI (
P
= 0.378) or intracranial artery disease detected by MRA (
P
= 0.103). Our results suggest that intracranial artery disease and prior cerebral infarction are not independent risk factors for stroke after OPCABG. Nonetheless, further investigation of these associations is necessary.
To compare the benefits and harms of drug treatments for adults with type 2 diabetes, adding non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (including finerenone) and tirzepatide (a dual ...glucose dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)/glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist) to previously existing treatment options.

Eligible randomised controlled trials compared drugs of interest in adults with type 2 diabetes. Eligible trials had a follow-up of 24 weeks or longer. Trials systematically comparing combinations of more than one drug treatment class with no drug, subgroup analyses of randomised controlled trials, and non-English language studies were deemed ineligible. Certainty of evidence was assessed following the GRADE (grading of recommendations, assessment, development and evaluation) approach.
The analysis identified 816 trials with 471 038 patients, together evaluating 13 different drug classes; all subsequent estimates refer to the comparison with standard treatments. Sodium glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors (odds ratio 0.88, 95% confidence interval 0.83 to 0.94; high certainty) and GLP-1 receptor agonists (0.88, 0.82 to 0.93; high certainty) reduce all cause death; non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, so far tested only with finerenone in patients with chronic kidney disease, probably reduce mortality (0.89, 0.79 to 1.00; moderate certainty); other drugs may not. The study confirmed the benefits of SGLT-2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists in reducing cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, admission to hospital for heart failure, and end stage kidney disease. Finerenone probably reduces admissions to hospital for heart failure and end stage kidney disease, and possibly cardiovascular death. Only GLP-1 receptor agonists reduce non-fatal stroke; SGLT-2 inhibitors are superior to other drugs in reducing end stage kidney disease. GLP-1 receptor agonists and probably SGLT-2 inhibitors and tirzepatide improve quality of life. Reported harms were largely specific to drug class (eg, genital infections with SGLT-2 inhibitors, severe gastrointestinal adverse events with tirzepatide and GLP-1 receptor agonists, hyperkalaemia leading to admission to hospital with finerenone). Tirzepatide probably results in the largest reduction in body weight (mean difference -8.57 kg; moderate certainty). Basal insulin (mean difference 2.15 kg; moderate certainty) and thiazolidinediones (mean difference 2.81 kg; moderate certainty) probably result in the largest increases in body weight. Absolute benefits of SGLT-2 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, and finerenone vary in people with type 2 diabetes, depending on baseline risks for cardiovascular and kidney outcomes (https://matchit.magicevidence.org/230125dist-diabetes).
This network meta-analysis extends knowledge beyond confirming the substantial benefits with the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists in reducing adverse cardiovascular and kidney outcomes and death by adding information on finerenone and tirzepatide. These findings highlight the need for continuous assessment of scientific progress to introduce cutting edge updates in clinical practice guidelines for people with type 2 diabetes.

Calcium carbonate concrete is a normally concrete in the area with rich limestone. With the heavy use, a large of Calcium carbonate concrete waste is generated, how to reuse the waste is an important ...problem. The generation of reactive powder concrete (RPC) with silica fume is relative more expensive than normal concrete. Using the calcium carbonate concrete waste instead of silica fume in RPC can realize the recycling of construction and demolition waste, moreover, the high price of RPC manufacture can be decreased. The study mainly focused on the mechanical properties and durability as well as the microstructure of RPC with calcium carbonate concrete waste powder (CCWP) instead of silica fume, the results confirmed that the mechanical strengths of 3, 7, 28 days of RPC with CCWP did not obviously decrease, freezing and thawing test could attain to 500 recycles without obvious destruction and carbonation did not happen after 28 days. RPC with CCWP had no more amorphous material and good crystallinity, its microstructure was dense as that of RPC without CCWP.
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are zinc-endopeptidases with multifactorial actions in central nervous system (CNS) physiology and pathology. Accumulating data suggest that MMPs have a deleterious ...role in stroke. By degrading neurovascular matrix, MMPs promote injury of the blood-brain barrier, edema and hemorrhage. By disrupting cell-matrix signaling and homeostasis, MMPs trigger brain cell death. Hence, there is a movement toward the development of MMP inhibitors for acute stroke therapy. But MMPs may have a different role during delayed phases after stroke. Because MMPs modulate brain matrix, they may mediate beneficial plasticity and remodeling during stroke recovery. Here, we show that MMPs participate in delayed cortical responses after focal cerebral ischemia in rats. MMP-9 is upregulated in peri-infarct cortex at 7-14 days after stroke and is colocalized with markers of neurovascular remodeling. Treatment with MMP inhibitors at 7 days after stroke suppresses neurovascular remodeling, increases ischemic brain injury and impairs functional recovery at 14 days. MMP processing of bioavailable VEGF may be involved because inhibition of MMPs reduces endogenous VEGF signals, whereas additional treatment with exogenous VEGF prevents MMP inhibitor-induced worsening of infarction. These data suggest that, contrary to MMP inhibitor therapies for acute stroke, strategies that modulate MMPs may be needed for promoting stroke recovery.
Inflammation plays an important role in diabetes mellitus (DM)-related acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The mechanisms of un-resolved inflammation in DM-related AIS are not fully understood. Specialized ...pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) are key regulators that promote resolution of inflammation. We aimed to examine resolution function in patients with AIS complicated with DM, and explore potential treatment effects of one of the SPMs, resolvin D2 (RvD2) ex vivo and in vivo.
Cultured human macrophages, which were derived from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of AIS and none-AIS patients with or without DM, were stimulated with oxidized-low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL). Levels of SPMs and inflammatory markers were analysed, and RvD2 treatment effects were evaluated in these cells. For experiments in vivo, challenges with high fat diet and low-dose streptozotocin (STZ) were used to induce DM in C57BL/6J mice. AIS model was established by permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO) followed by intra-cerebroventricular injection of RvD2.
Compared with macrophages of AIS patients without DM, the ratios of SPMs to leukotriene B4 (LTB4) were decreased in AIS patients with DM, accompanied by reduced expression of SPM synthesis enzyme, 15-lipoxygenase-1. Moreover, the levels of pro-inflammatory pathway markers were increased, and the macrophages were skewed to M1 polarization in AIS patients with DM. In mice, treatment with RvD2 ameliorated pMCAO-induced brain injury, neurological dysfunction, and inflammatory response. Furthermore, RvD2 rescued resolution of inflammation by promoting macrophage/microglia polarization to pro-resolving M2 phenotype ex vivo and in vivo.
Our data demonstrate resolution of inflammation is impaired by DM in AIS patients, implicating a novel mechanism of un-resolved inflammation in DM-related AIS. Furthermore, RvD2 promotes inflammation resolution in macrophages/microglia and protects DM-related AIS, and may thus serve as a novel therapeutic target.
•Resolution of inflammation is disturbed in the macrophages from AIS patients with DM.•Treatment with RvD2 rescued the disturbed resolution in the macrophages from AIS patients with DM.•Treatment with RvD2 protected against cerebral ischemia injury by inhibiting inflammation in mice with DM.
After brain injury, neuroblast cells from the subventricular zone (SVZ) expand and migrate toward damaged tissue. The mechanisms that mediate these neurogenic and migratory responses remain to be ...fully dissected. Here, we show that bromodeoxyuridine-labeled and doublecortin-positive cells from the SVZ colocalize with the extracellular protease matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) during the 2 week recovery period after transient focal cerebral ischemia in mice. Treatment with the broad spectrum MMP inhibitor GM6001 significantly decreases the migration of doublecortin-positive cells that extend from the SVZ into the striatum. These data suggest that MMPs are involved in endogenous mechanisms of neurogenic migration as the brain seeks to heal itself after injury.
