•A Personalized Social Document Representation (PerSaDor), which is based on social media.•Two new ranking functions for documents based on their textual content and their PerSaDoR.•A large scale ...online evaluation and a discussion on the parameters’ impact.•An offline study and a user survey to assess our method on a large public dataset.
In this paper, we discuss a contribution towards the integration of social information in the index structure of an IR system. Since each user has his/her own understanding and point of view of a given document, we propose an approach in which the index model provides a Personalized Social Document Representation (PerSaDoR) of each document per user based on his/her activities in a social tagging system. The proposed approach relies on matrix factorization to compute the PerSaDoR of documents that match a query, at query time. The complexity analysis shows that our approach scales linearly with the number of documents that match the query, and thus, it can scale to very large datasets. PerSaDoR has been also intensively evaluated by an offline study and by a user survey operated on a large public dataset from deliciousshowing significant benefits for personalized search compared to state of the art methods.
•Natural oils nano-formulations added to the arsenal of anti-Toxoplasma remedies.•The metal organic framework (MOF) served as a nano-porous vehicle for natural oils.•Nigella sativa oil loaded on MOF ...achieved the highest curative impact.•Wheat germ oil loaded on MOF substantially amended the pathological insults.•Natural edible oils can be a principal or adjuvant therapy for chronic toxoplasmosis.
Treatment of chronic toxoplasmosis is challenging as the available drugs are effective only in the acute stage. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate Nigella sativa oil (NSO) and wheat germ oil (WGO) loaded on copper-benzene tricarboxylic acid metal organic framework (Cu-BTC MOF) for treating chronic toxoplasmosis in a murine model. Eighty mice were divided into 8 groups (G); uninfected untreated negative control (GI), infected untreated positive control (GII), infected and treated with: Spiramycin (GIII), Spiramycin@Cu-BTC (GIV), Cu-BTC (GV), WGO@Cu-BTC (GVI), NSO@Cu-BTC (GVII) and combined WGO+NSO@Cu-BTC (GVIII). The infected groups were orally inoculated with 10 Toxoplasma gondii Me49 strain cysts/mouse. All drugs were orally administered for 14 consecutive days starting 8 weeks post-infection (wpi). The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by parasitological (survival rate of mice and brain cyst burden) and histopathological (brain, liver, kidney, eye) parameters. At the end of 2-weeks therapy, the highest therapeutic outcome was achieved with GVII and GVIII exhibiting 100% survival, 64.3% and 51.4% reduction of brain cysts, and an apparent amendment of pathological insults. In the next place was GVI with 90% survival, 49.5% reduction of cysts and marked amelioration of pathological lesions. Meanwhile, GIII and GIV showed 80% survival, 42.4% and 41.8% reduction of cysts as well as minimal to moderate alleviation of tissue damage. The lowest effect was obtained with GV resulting in 70% survival and 24.4% reduction of cysts. The current results support the assertion that the new metal-based nanocomposites can be promising remedies of chronic toxoplasmosis particularly if conjugated with natural herbal extracts as NSO and WGO.

This study reports the synthesis of the novel crystalline 4-phenyl-3-((4-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)methyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole-5(4H)-thione compound in an excellent yield via multi-steps reactions. ...Probability of the thiol⇔thione tautomerism reaction occurrence via single-proton intramigration for NH to nearby CS was DFT-theoretically monitored. The thione tautomer isomer structure formation was supported by X-ray single crystal measurement, the lowest energy DFT-optimized structures of the molecule in gas-phase reconcile with the thionic tautomer structure solved by X-ray technique. Several physico-chemically tools like CHN-elemental analyses, FT-IR, MS, TG/DTG, XRD, UV–Vis.,1H and 13C NMR were served for the compound characterization. Experimental methods X-ray diffraction, NMR, UV–Vis. and FT-IR spectroscopy and their corresponding quantum-parameters were computed for their electronic and structural output. The computed Hirshfeld surface analysis (HSA) and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) reflected the presence of several H-bonds and CH…π (CC) as short contacts which was detected experimentally by XRD-packing analysis.

The work proposes multi-objective variants of the recently-proposed equilibrium optimizer (EO) using an archive to obtain Pareto optimal solutions and a crowding distance approach to preserve the ...diversity among the non-dominated solutions. However, due to the use of constant values for the controlling parameters of EO, the exploration and exploitation of multi-objective EO (MOEO) are not accelerated, so the first variant is proposed with a number of linear and non-linear equations to generate increasing and decreasing values proportional to the number of iterations that will eventually improve exploratory and exploitative behaviors of MOEO. In the second proposed variant of MOEO with exploration–exploitation dominance strategy (MOEO-EED), solutions are updated according to the number of dominated solutions. If a solution has a high number of dominated solutions, it will go through fewer abrupt changes, while others will undergo major changes. In addition, a novel strategy known as a Gaussian-based mutation (G) strategy is proposed to use the Gaussian distribution to generate two different step sizes: small step sizes that are generated under a small sigma value for the Gaussian distribution to promote the exploitation capability, and high step sizes under a high sigma value to increase the exploration operator. The tradeoff between those two-step sizes is predefined through experimentation. This strategy is integrated to generate the third variant, namely MOEO-EED-G. In the fourth variant (OMOEO-EED-G), the tradeoff between the best solution selected from the archive and its opposite is achieved with a probability to increase the diversity and accelerate the convergence of MOEO-EED-G. Finally, the efficacy of the proposed algorithms is tested on four benchmark multi-objective functions to show that the proposed algorithms, especially OMOEO-EED-G, are superior to selected state-of-the-art multi-objective algorithms.
•Novel construction of LaFeO3/ZnO p-n heterojunction by sol-gel route.•LaFeO3 boosted visible light harvesting and lessen both bandgap and charge recombination.•Photoreduction of Hg ions over 3% ...LaFeO3/ZnO is 16.6 times greater than ZnO.•Recyclable and roubust S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst obtained.
The separation of heavy metal ions from industrial wastewater is a great challenge regarding environmental remediation.
Following this, a Sol-gel technique was successfully utilized to synthesize novel mesoporous LaFeO3/ZnO nanocomposites containing varying concentrations of LaFeO3 nanoparticles. Mercury ions (Hg2+) were photo-reduced over the prepared mesoporous LaFeO3/ZnO heterojunctions in the presence of HCOOH which plays the role of the hole scavenger.
Illumination by visible light showed that mesoporous LaFeO3/ZnO nanocomposite containing 3.0 wt.% LaFeO3 maintained a noticeable ability of mercury ions photo-reduction. The complete photo-reduction of mercury ions was achieved and was estimated as 16.6 times greater when compared with pure ZnO after 30 min of exposure. Major factors that contributed to the remarkable mercury ions photoreduction ability of LaFeO3/ZnO nanocomposite heterojunction system are summarized as the enhanced visible light absorption, effective separation of generated charges, distinct large surface area, and distinguished mesoporous texture. The outcomes presented here represent an example of an outstanding approach for adequate removal of mercury ions that could be adopted efficiently in various industrial fields.

This paper investigates the analysis and design of digital single-loop voltage-controller for grid-forming voltage source converters with LC-filters. Inspired by the structure diagram of the passive ...damping method, the virtual resistance concept based on only capacitor voltage feedback is used to realize active damping without the need of any current sensor, reducing thus the system costs. It is revealed from the controller closed-loop analysis that the insertion of an integrator in series with a proportional and resonant controller can significantly improve stability margin and dynamic performance of the system, then only the proportional controller need to be determined for system stability and the resonant controller is merely used for zero steady-state tracking error, which facilitates the controller parameter tuning. A systematic design based on the root contours in the discrete z-domain is proposed to optimize the parameters of the controller. The largest distance between the poles of the closed-loop system and the unit circle is achieved, which indicates the fastest dynamic performance under desired stability margins. Meanwhile, a simple differentiator constructed by backward-Euler plus lead-compensator is used to replace the noise-sensitive derivative term. In order to evaluate the proposed control approach performance, the system is tested in laboratory setup under different load conditions. The obtained results verify the effectiveness of the proposed design method and validate the analysis.
Conversational Recommendation Systems (CRSs) have recently started to leverage pretrained language models (LM) such as BERT for their ability to semantically interpret a wide range of preference ...statement variations. However, pretrained LMs are prone to intrinsic biases in their training data, which may be exacerbated by biases embedded in domain-specific language data (e.g., user reviews) used to fine-tune LMs for CRSs. We study a simple LM-driven recommendation backbone (termed LMRec) of a CRS to investigate how unintended bias — i.e., bias due to language variations such as name references or indirect indicators of sexual orientation or location that should not affect recommendations — manifests in substantially shifted price and category distributions of restaurant recommendations. For example, offhand mention of names associated with the black community substantially lowers the price distribution of recommended restaurants, while offhand mentions of common male-associated names lead to an increase in recommended alcohol-serving establishments. While these results raise red flags regarding a range of previously undocumented unintended biases that can occur in LM-driven CRSs, there is fortunately a silver lining: we show that train side masking and test side neutralization of non-preferential entities nullifies the observed biases without significantly impacting recommendation performance.
•We study bias in a simple language model-driven recommender (LMRec).•LMRec demonstrates substantial price and category shifts based on race and gender.•LMRec appears to pick up on indirect mentions of homosexual relations.•LMRec demonstrates substantial price shift based on location and religion mentions.•Train side masking and test side neutralization maintain accuracy and nullify bias.
In the present study, an eco-friendly and efficient microwave-assisted synthesis of the (E)-4-((3,4-difluorobenzylidene)amino)-2,4-dihydro-5-methyl-3H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thione Schiff base ligand was ...described. XRD-single crystal analysis reflected the molecule occurs in an exo-thione tautomeric form in solid state. Therefore, gaseous-phase prototropic thione thiol tautomerism occurrence probability via single-proton intramigration and push/pull protons self-assemble double proton transfer exchange was DFT-computed. The newly designed thione-tautomer was well-characterized by MS, FT-IR, CHN-EA, 19F, 1H, 13C NMR, and XRD analysis. High degree of matching was recorded by comparing the experiment XRD exo-thione-tautomer structure parameters by their relatives DFT-optimized parameters. Moreover, the computed MEP and HSA surface interactions were compared to H-bonds and π-π stack interactions obtained by XRD-packing analyses. Docking studies reflected the compound as DNA strong hydrophobic pocket binder.
