Only one (trans(O5)-NaRh(ED3AP)?3H2O) of possible two isomers was synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis, IR and UV?Vis spectroscopy. Computational analysis of both isomers ...was performed with three levels of theory (B3LYP/TZV, BP86/TZV, OPBE/TZV), which gave consistent results. The more stable isomer by total energy and ligand field stabilization energy (LFSE) was trans(O5) which appeared in synthesis. The calculation of excited state energies complied with UV?Vis spectra, especially with OPBE functional. The results of excited state energy pointed out the differences among isomers in means of a splitting pattern of 1T2g excited state term. Both isomers have a strongly delocalized structure, according to the natural bonding orbital (NBO) analysis. NBO analysis shows that the trans(O5) isomer is more stable than trans(O5O6) for approx. 87 kJ/mol. Therefore, only the trans(O5) isomer is present in the reaction mixture.
In this paper, the authors aimed to examine the relationship between the process of employee job satisfaction and the quality of work life. The main hypothesis, which is confirmed in the paper, is ...that there is a statistically significant correlation between the elements of job satisfaction and the quality of work life. Based on the suggested hypothesis, the main objective of the paper was to identify the concerns within the job satisfaction processes in the organizations where the research was conducted. The research involved 127 respondents who are employed at all three management levels in the organization (top management, middle management and the first- line management) in 86 business entities in the Rasina District. For the purpose of implementing this research, a questionnaire was used and its results were subsequently processed by using several statistical methods. The results of the research indicate, among other things, the concerns in the job satisfaction process, which are the basis for measuring and improving the quality of work life.
Purpose This study aims to examine the relationship between work ethics and organizational performance and investigate the influence of respondents’ career stages on their work ethic among British, ...United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Serbian nations. Design/methodology/approach This research is based on a survey of British, UAE and Serbian managers, whose task was to assess the dimensions of the multidimensional work ethic profile (MWEP) and organizational performance. Since the MWEP does not analyze work ethics in the context of religion, it is deemed the most suitable instrument for this study because it analyzes work ethics among the three cultures that practice different religions. Findings The results revealed that national culture impacts work ethics. British managers place greater value on the wasted time, self-reliance and morality dimensions of work ethics. Serbian managers prefer the leisure and delay of gratification dimensions, while UAE managers value hard work ethics more than the other two groups of managers. The study also shows that respondents’ career stage influences their work ethic, and a significant relationship exists between different dimensions of work ethics and organizational performance in all three nations. Originality/value This study contributes to the theory by analyzing work ethic and its relationship with organizational performance and respondents’ career stages in three nations that share business interests. It addresses a research gap by comparing work ethics in developed, developing and a country in socio-economic transition.
The results of previous studies showed that male students have a lower average grade than female students. Men are also reported to play more video games than women. We were interested in whether ...male students maintain the same pattern of behavior in relation to playing games during the exam period and how this affects their average grade compared to female students. If male students spend more time playing video games compared to female students, their academic performance may decrease as time spent on academic activities is replaced by video game play. In a survey of 400 university students, the authors focused on the gender characteristics of students and their achievements. Our results showed that female students studied more and played video games less during the exam periods compared to male and non-binary students, which is the reason for a higher total average grade in contrast to others.
This study explores the conflict management styles of German and Serbian managers in multinational organisations in Serbia. Contrary to most previous cross-cultural studies on conflict management ...styles, we have analysed not only the impact of the dimensions of individualism vs. collectivism on conflict management styles, but the effect of power distance dimension also. Moreover, none of the previous studies have analysed the conflict of management styles of managers in Southeast Europe, let alone the influence of intercultural interactions in multinational organisations in that region. Our study is based on the survey of 205 German, and 214 Serbian, managers in German multinationals in Serbia. The findings reveal that German and Serbian managers use different conflict management styles and that the status of the conflict partners and gender affect managers’ conflict management styles.
Combined use of bevacizumab and conventional anticancer drugs leads to a significant
improvement of treatment response in patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma (CRC). Conventional
treatment ...protocols exert undesired effects on the liver tissue. Hepatotoxic effects are manifested as a
disturbance of liver function test parameters. The relation between clinical outcome and disorder of
biochemical parameters has not been completely evaluated.
The objective of our study was to examine whether clinical outcome in patients with liver
metastatic CRC correlates with the level of liver function test parameters.
The study included 96 patients with untreated liver metastatic CRC who received FOLFOX4
protocol with or without bevacizumab. Biochemical liver parameters were performed before and after
the treatment completion. Treatment response was evaluated as disease regression, stable disease, and
disease progression. The patients were divided into three groups according to the accomplished treatment
response.
In the group of patients with disease regression the post-treatment levels of aspartate aminotransferase,
alanine aminotransferase, and bilirubin were statistically significantly increased. In contrast
to this, gamma-glutamyltransferase and protein post-treatment values were significantly lower in relation
to initial values. In patients with stable disease, difference was found only in the level of proteins being
lower after the treatment. In patients with disease progression, values of aspartate aminotransferase and
bilirubin were significantly increased after completed treatment.
Treatment responses are not completely associated with the level of liver function test parameters.
The only parameter which correlated with treatment response is gamma-glutamyltransferase.
Its decrease is accompanied with disease regression.
Students acquire learning material in different ways. Some prefer to read, some prefer to listen, others use the third type of sense. Traditional teaching uses only one of these teaching strategies ...since it is impossible to use all of them in the classroom. However, these days, adaptive e-learning systems enable learning material to be customized to the individual needs of learners. For the purpose of this paper, the researchers designed a model of the adaptive learning management system and implemented it in Moodle. The system was evaluated on 228 students. The incorporation of learning styles in Moodle is based on the VAK learning style model. The authors analysed the effects and effectiveness of an adaptive e-learning system. It was discovered that there are significant differences in learning effectiveness, satisfaction and motivation when students use an adaptive e-learning module in comparison to a standard e-learning module. Moreover, we investigated the durability of knowledge acquired with an adaptive e-learning system by comparing the performance of students not only after the completion of the course but also a month after the course. The results of the research confirmed the authors’ expectations and showed that an adaptive e-learning system can increase students’ learning results. So far, to our knowledge, no study has evaluated the performance between a control and experiment group a few months after the completion of the course, i.e. by analysing the durability of knowledge acquired through an adaptive e-learning system. Moreover, the motivation of students to continue using an adaptive e-learning system hasn’t been analysed until now.
Research Question: This paper starts with the research question regarding the relationship between workplace conflicts and job satisfaction in the public sector in Serbia. Motivation: The main ...motivation for this research study was: to examine a compromising conflict resolution in the public sector in Serbia; to examine the frequency, causes, conflict resolution strategies and methods for their reduction and for improving work climate in the public sector in Serbia; to examine the job satisfaction in the public sector in Serbia; and to examine the relationship between workplace conflicts and job satisfaction in the public sector in Serbia. Idea: This research started with the intention to study job satisfaction or dissatisfaction and workplace conflicts in the public sector in Serbia in order to reach a more efficient and effective human resource management. Data: The research study was conducted from the beginning of March 2019 until the end of April 2019. The total sample size amounted to 300 respondents employed in the public sector in Serbia. Tools: Two scales have been used to gather data and conduct the research: the compromising conflict resolution scale and the job satisfaction survey scale. Findings: More than half of the respondents employed in the public sector in Serbia believe that conflicts in their workplace are not frequent, while less than half of them finds them frequent. This finding shows that opinions are divided regarding conflicts. As the main reason for conflicts, the respondents reported personal conflicts, organizational conflicts and communication conflicts. The best strategies to handle conflicts, according to the employees in the public sector in Serbia, are cooperation, competition and avoiding. At the same time, compromise occupies the bottom place according to its frequency occurrence. As regards the methods to lower the levels of conflict frequency and to improve the organizational climate, the employees in the public sector in Serbia emphasized better planning and division of work and more resources that a company has at its disposal. Regarding job satisfaction, these findings put employees in the category of ambivalent emotions. Contribution: The primary contribution of this paper is in its effort to lead to better human resource management in the public sector in Serbia due to the research study results.
