Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) accounts for 10-15% of all strokes and is associated with high mortality and morbidity. Currently, no effective medical treatment is available to improve functional ...outcomes in patients with ICH. Potential therapies targeting secondary brain injury are arousing a great deal of interest in translational studies. Increasing evidence has shown that inflammation is the key contributor of ICH-induced secondary brain injury. Inflammation progresses in response to various stimuli produced after ICH. Hematoma components initiate inflammatory signaling via activation of microglia, subsequently releasing proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines to attract peripheral inflammatory infiltration. Hemoglobin (Hb), heme, and iron released after red blood cell lysis aggravate ICH-induced inflammatory injury. Danger associated molecular patterns such as high mobility group box 1 protein, released from damaged or dead cells, trigger inflammation in the late stage of ICH. Preclinical studies have identified inflammatory signaling pathways that are involved in microglial activation, leukocyte infiltration, toll-like receptor (TLR) activation, and danger associated molecular pattern regulation in ICH. Recent advances in understanding the pathogenesis of ICH-induced inflammatory injury have facilitated the identification of several novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of ICH. This review summarizes recent progress concerning the mechanisms underlying ICH-induced inflammation. We focus on the inflammatory signaling pathways involved in microglial activation and TLR signaling, and explore potential therapeutic interventions by targeting the removal of hematoma components and inhibition of TLR signaling.
The possible health risks of heavy metals contamination to local population through food chain were evaluated in Beijing and Tianjin city cluster, China, where have a long history of sewage ...irrigation. The transfer factors (TF) for heavy metals from soil to vegetables for six elements including Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr, As and Cd were calculated and the pollution load indexes (PLI) were also assessed. Results indicate that only Cd exceeded the maximum acceptable limit in these sites. So far, the heavy metal concentrations in soils and vegetables were all below the permissible limits set by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China and World Health Organization. The transfer factors of six heavy metals showed the trend as Cd > Zn > Cu > Pb > As > Cr, which were dependent on the vegetable species. The estimated dietary intakes of Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr, As and Cd were far below the tolerable limits and the target hazard quotient (THQ) values were less than 1, which suggested that the health risks of heavy metals exposure through consuming vegetables were generally assumed to be safe.

Moreover, the research results are highly scalable and also open opportunities for the large-scale production of flexible thermoelectric modules.
Indoor positioning is the basic requirement of future positioning services, and high-precision, low-cost indoor positioning algorithms are the key technology to achieve this goal. Different from ...outdoor maps, indoor data has the characteristic of uneven distribution and close correlation. In areas with low data density, in order to achieve a high-precision positioning effect, the positioning time will be correspondingly longer, but this is not necessary. The instability of WiFi leads to the introduction of noise when collecting data, which reduces the overall performance of the positioning system, so denoising is very necessary. For the above problems, a positioning system using the DBSCAN algorithm to segment regions and realize regionalized positioning is proposed. DBSCAN algorithm not only divides the dataset into core points and edge points, but also divides part of the data into noise points to achieve the effect of denoising. In the core part, the dimensionality of the data is reduced by using stacking auto-encoders (SAE), and the localization task is accomplished by using a deep neural network (DNN) with an adaptive learning rate. At the edge points, the random forest (RF) algorithm is used to complete the localization task. Finally, the proposed architecture is verified on the UJIIndoorLoc dataset. The experimental results show that our positioning accuracy does not exceed 1.5 m with a probability of less than 87.2% at the edge point, and the time is only 32 ms; the positioning accuracy does not exceed 1.5 m with a probability of less than 98.8% at the core point. Compared with indoor positioning algorithms such as multi-layer perceptron and K Nearest Neighbors (KNN), good results have been achieved.
MCF7 cells have been used as an experimental model for breast cancer for decades. Typically, a culture medium is designed to supply cells with the nutrients essential for their continuous ...proliferation. Each medium has a specific nutritional composition. Therefore, cells cultured in different media may exhibit differences in their metabolism. However, only a few studies have investigated the effects of media on cells. In this study, we compared the effects of Dulbecco's modified Eagle medium (DMEM) and minimum essential medium alpha modification (αMEM) on MCF7 cells. The two media differentially affected the morphology, cell cycle, and proliferation of MCF7 cells, but had no effect on cell death. Replacement of DMEM with αMEM led to a decrease in ATP production and an increase in reactive oxygen species production, but did not affect the cell viability. RNA-sequencing and bioinformatic analyses revealed 721 significantly upregulated and 1247 downregulated genes in cells cultured in αMEM for 48 h compared with that in cells cultured in DMEM. The enriched gene ontology terms were related to mitosis and cell proliferation. Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes analysis revealed cell cycle and DNA replication as the top two significant pathways. MCF7 cells were hypoxic when cultured in αMEM. These results show that the culture medium considerably affects cultured cells. Thus, the stability of the culture system in a study is very important to obtain reliable results.
This study aimed to develop a risk prediction model for long-term atelectasis in children with pneumonia.
A retrospective study of 532 children with atelectasis was performed at the Children's ...Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from February 2017 to March 2020. The predictive variables were screened by LASSO regression analysis and the nomogram was drawn by R software. The area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration chart and decision curve were used to evaluate the predictive accuracy and clinical utility. 1000 Bootstrap resampling was used for internal verification.
Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that clinical course before bronchoscopy, length of stay, bronchial mucus plug formation, age were independent risk factors for long-term atelectasis in children. The area under the ROC curve of nomogram was 0.857(95% CI = 0.8136 ~ 0.9006) in training set and 0.849(95% CI = 0.7848-0.9132) in the testing set. The calibration curve demonstrated that the nomogram was well-fitted, and decision curve analysis (DCA) showed that the nomogram had good clinical utility.
The model based on the risk factors of long-term atelectasis in children with pneumonia has good predictive accuracy and consistency, which can provide a certain reference value for clinical prevention and treatment of long-term atelectasis in children.
Single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) films are promising materials as flexible transparent conductive films (TCFs). Here, inspired by the extrusion blown plastic film technique and the SWCNT ...synthesis approach by floating catalyst chemical vapor deposition (FCCVD), a novel blown aerosol chemical vapor deposition (BACVD) method is reported to directly and continuously produce freestanding SWCNT TCFs at several hundred meters per hour. The synthesis mechanism, involving blowing a stable aerosol bubble and transforming the bubble into an aerogel, is investigated, and a general phase diagram is established for this method. For the SWCNT TCFs via BACVD, both carbon conversion efficiency and SWCNT TCF yield can reach three orders of magnitude higher than those with the conventional FCCVD. The film displays a sheet resistance of 40 ohm sq−1 at 90% transmittance after being doped, representing the record performance based on large‐scale SWCNT films. Transparent, flexible, and stretchable electrodes based on BACVD films are demonstrated. Moreover, this high‐throughput method of producing SWCNT TCFs can be compatible with the roll‐to‐roll process for mass production of flexible displays, touch screens, solar cells, and solid‐state lighting, and is expected to have a broad and long‐term impact on many fields from consumer electronics to energy conversion and generation.

Human papillomaviruses (HPVs), such as HPV 16 and HPV 18 are related to cervical cancer. Therefore, it is important to inhibit HPV-positive cervical cancer for treating cervical cancer. This study is ...aiming at investigating the proposed molecular mechanism, which underlies the antineoplastic potential of the aqueous extract of juglone of HPV-positive cervical cancer cells. According to the results, it is showed that, juglone prohibited HPV positive cervical cancer cells’ growth through dose-dependent way. Nevertheless, when pin 1 was knocked down, the proliferation inhibition reduced. The detection of apoptosis and cell cycle also illustrated that juglone influenced HPV positive cells. Western blot expressed the influence mechanism that it affected the B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) family and later activated the Caspase-depended apoptosis way. It is contributable for this study to understand the mechanism of inhibiting HPV positive cells by juglone and it also provides an effective strategy for the application of it in the future.
Semiothisa cinerearia belongs to Geometridae, which is one of the most species-rich families of lepidopteran insects. It is also one of the most economically significant pests of the Chinese scholar ...tree (Sophora japonica L.), which is an important urban greenbelt trees in China due to its high ornamental value. A genome assembly of S. cinerearia would facilitate study of the control and evolution of this species. We present a reference genome for S. cinerearia; the size of the genome was ~ 580.89 Mb, and it contained 31 chromosomes. Approximately 43.52% of the sequences in the genome were repeat sequences, and 21,377 protein-coding genes were predicted. Some important gene families involved in the detoxification of pesticides (P450) have expanded in S. cinerearia. Cytochrome P450 gene family members play key roles in mediating relationships between plants and insects, and they are important in plant secondary metabolite detoxification and host-plant selection. Using comparative analysis methods, we find positively selected gene, Sox15 and TipE, which may play important roles during the larval-pupal metamorphosis development of S. cinerearia. This assembly provides a new genomic resource that will aid future comparative genomic studies of Geometridae species and facilitate future evolutionary studies on the S. cinerearia.

Composite rocks are easily encountered in a wide range of geotechnical construction projects. Understanding their mechanical properties and failure modes is very important to ensure project ...quality and safety. This study conducted a mechanical analysis to assess the stress distribution in composite rock with a horizontal interlayer and predicted the possible failure modes. Uniaxial compression tests were carried out on the composite rock samples to reveal their mechanical properties. It was concluded that a composite rock with a thick interlayer failed more easily than a composite rock with a thin interlayer. Four potential failure modes were related to the internal stress distribution under compression and the differences in deformation capacity and strength among the constituent components. The stress distribution derived from the mechanical analysis could explain the failure mechanism very well. These results verified the validity of the mechanical analysis results and improved understanding of the mechanical properties of composite rock with a horizontal interlayer.
