School violence and bullying in China is under investigated, though it has become a national concern recently. Using updated national representative survey data collected in 2016 from seven provinces ...across China, covering students from all pre-college school types (primary, middle, high and vocational schools), this paper analyzes the prevalence of school bullying and the correlation with several school attributes. The incidences of reported bullying, bullying others and witnessing bullying are 26.10%, 9.03% and 28.90%, respectively. Primary school students are more likely to be involved in bullying behaviors. Students from elite schools (leading schools) are also more likely to be involved. Relation with teachers, relation with peers and perceived academic achievement are protective factors. Being a boy is the only significant predictor of school bullying among the family and demographic characteristics used. The results highlight the importance of school climate on preventing school violence and bullying, and a whole-school intervention approach is needed for future intervention.
•The ketogenic diet (KD) is a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet.•The KD may not be suitable for everyone and can cause adverse effects.•KD may increase the risk of heart disease and other health ...complications.•Others have demonstrated its efficacy for weight reduction.•More research is needed to understand the potential risks and benefits of KD in the long term.
The ketogenic diet (KD) is a distinctive dietary regimen known for its low-carbohydrate and high-fat composition. Recently, it has garnered considerable interest from the scientific community and the general population because of its claimed efficacy in facilitating weight reduction, improving the management of glucose levels, and raising overall energy levels. The core principle of the KD is the substantial decrease in carbohydrate consumption, which is subsequently substituted by ingesting nourishing fats. While the KD has promising advantages and is gaining popularity, it must be acknowledged that this dietary method may not be appropriate for all individuals. The dietary regimen may give rise to adverse effects, including constipation, halitosis, and imbalances in electrolyte levels, which may pose a potential risk if not adequately supervised. Hence, thorough and meticulous inquiry is needed to better comprehend the possible hazards and advantages linked to the KD over prolonged durations. By obtaining a more comprehensive perspective, we can enhance our ability to make well-informed judgments and suggestions as to implementation of this specific dietary regimen.
Anti-PD-1 immunotherapy is a cancer therapy that focuses explicitly on the PD-1 receptor found on the surface of immune cells. This targeted therapeutic strategy is specifically designed to amplify ...the immune system's innate capacity to detect and subsequently eliminate cells that have become cancerous. Nevertheless, it should be noted that not all patients exhibit a favourable response to this particular therapeutic modality, necessitating the exploration of novel strategies to augment the effectiveness of immunotherapy. Previous studies have shown that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) can enhance the efficacy of anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in advanced melanoma patients. To investigate this intriguing possibility further, we turned to PubMed and conducted a comprehensive search for studies that analyzed the interplay between FMT and anti-PD-1 therapy in the context of tumor treatment. Our search criteria were centred around two key phrases: "fecal microbiota transplantation" and "anti-PD-1 therapy." The studies we uncovered all echo a similar sentiment. They pointed towards the potential of FMT to improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy. FMT may enhance the effectiveness of immunotherapy by altering the gut microbiota and boosting the patient’s immunological response. Although promising, additional investigation is needed to improve the efficacy of FMT in the context of cancer therapy and attain a comprehensive understanding of the possible advantages and drawbacks associated with this therapeutic strategy.
•The gut microbiota affects tumor development, progression, and treatment due to its intricate linkage to the immune system.•FMT can improve the immune response of patients and enhance the efficacy of PD-1 inhibitors.•Further research is required to confirm the safety and effectiveness of FMT and PD-1 inhibitor therapy in tumor treatment.
In recent years, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has emerged as a promising therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD). The goal of the operation is to restore a healthy gut microbiota by ...introducing feces from a healthy donor into the recipient's digestive system. The brain-gut axis is thought to have a significant role in regulating mood, behavior, and cognition, which supports the use of FMT in the treatment of MDD. Numerous studies have shown a correlation between abnormalities of the gut microbiota and MDD, whereas FMT has demonstrated the potential to restore microbial equilibrium. While FMT has shown encouraging results, it is crucial to highlight the potential hazards and limits inherent to this therapeutic approach. Stool donor-to-recipient disease transfer is a concern of FMT. Furthermore, it still needs to be determined what effect FMT has on the gut microbiota and the brain in the long run. This literature review provides an overview of the possible efficacy of FMT as a therapeutic modality for MDD. There is hope for patients who have not reacted well to typical antidepressant therapy since FMT may become an invaluable tool in the treatment of MDD as researchers continue to examine the relationship between gut microbiota and MDD.
•Gut microbiota could play a significant role in developing and treating major depressive disorder (MDD).•Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has shown promise as a therapy for various gut-related conditions.•FMT can improve mood and cognitive function in patients with MDD.•While the use of FMT for MDD is still in the early stages, it is an exciting area of study that holds promise for the future of MDD.
Aging shows itself not just at the cellular level, with shortened telomeres and cell cycle arrest, but also at the organ and organismal level, with diminished brainpower, dry eyes, intestinal ...inflammation, muscular atrophy, wrinkles, etc. When the gut microbiota, often called the "virtual organ of the host," fails to function normally, it can lead to a cascade of health problems including, but not limited to, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, metabolic liver disease, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and even neurological disorders. An effective strategy for restoring healthy gut bacteria is fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). It can reverse the effects of aging on the digestive system, the brain, and the vision by transplanting the functional bacteria found in the excrement of healthy individuals into the gut tracts of patients. This paves the way for future research into using the microbiome as a therapeutic target for disorders associated with aging.
•The microbes that live in a person's digestive tract significantly impact their overall health and age. It aids in metabolism and nutrition intake, keeps the immune system strong, and helps the body process food more efficiently.•There is much evidence linking shifts in intestinal bacteria with the aging process in humans. Diseases like insulin intolerance, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and even depression have been linked to alterations in the intestinal flora.•Intestinal bacteria benefit from both variety and consistency. Older people may be at increased risk of dying prematurely due to a lack of variety in their gut bacteria. The most straightforward way to alter the makeup of gut microbiota is through fecal microbiota transplantation, which involves the introduction of beneficial microorganisms into the human intestine in the hopes that they will restore microbial equilibrium by balancing out the preexisting fungus, viruses, and bacteria. This demonstrates FMT's significant impact on well-being, life, and age.
Basil downy mildew caused by Peronospora belbahrii is a disease of sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum) production worldwide. In this study, sweet basil was grown in plant growth chambers and inoculated ...with sporangia of P. belbahrii harvested from previously infected plants. Plants were placed in closed, clear plastic bags and leaves harvested over time and observed using scanning electron microscopy. In most cases, sporangia germinated myceliogenically on abaxial and adaxial leaf surfaces as early as three days after inoculation. Germ tubes and the tips of hyphae ramifying on leaf surfaces directly penetrated basil leaves to initiate the infection process. Hyphal growth was not observed to gain entrance to the interior of leaves through stomata, though growth over these openings was observed. Most frequently, seven days after inoculation, one or more sporangiophores grew through stomata to produce new sporangia on both the abaxial and adaxial surfaces of leaves. Macroscopic signs of infection were visible on both sides of leaves approximately ten days after inoculation under the conditions of this study. These results contribute to a better understanding of the infection process and disease onset of P. belbahrii and should help in the development of more effective measures for reducing basil downy mildew.

Biomedical metal materials with good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties are widely used in orthopedic surgery and dental implant materials, but they can easily cause stress shielding due ...to the significant difference in elastic modulus between the implant and human bones. The elastic modulus of porous metals is lower than that of dense metals. Therefore,it is possible to adjust the pore parameters to make the elastic modulus of porous metals match or be comparable with that of the bone tissue. At the same time, the open porous metals with pores connected to each other could provide the structural condition for bone ingrowth, which is helpful in strengthening the biological combination of bone tissue with the implants. Therefore, the preparation technologies of porous metal implants and related research have been drawing more and more attention due to the excellent features of porous metals.Selective laser melting(SLM)and electron beam melting technology(EBM)are important research fields of additive manufacturing. They have the advantages of directly forming arbitrarily complex shaped metal parts which are suitable for the preparation of porous metal implants with complex shape and fine structure. As new manufacturing technologies, the applications of SLM and EBM for porous metal implants have just begun. This paper aims to understand the technology status of SLM and EBM,the research progress of porous metal implants preparation by using SLM and EBM,and the biological compatibility of the materials, individual design and manufacturing requirements. The existing problems and future research directions for porous metal implants prepared by SLM and EBM methods are discussed in the last paragraph.
Fungi are the causal agents of many of the world's most serious plant diseases causing disastrous consequences for large-scale agricultural production. Pathogenicity genomic basis is complex in fungi ...as multicellular eukaryotic pathogens. Here, we report the genome sequence of C. sojina, and comparative genome analysis with plant pathogen members of the genus Mycosphaerella (Zymoseptoria. tritici (synonyms M. graminicola), M. pini, M. populorum and M. fijiensis - pathogens of wheat, pine, poplar and banana, respectively). Synteny or collinearity was limited between genomes of major Mycosphaerella pathogens. Comparative analysis with these related pathogen genomes indicated distinct genome-wide repeat organization features. It suggests repetitive elements might be responsible for considerable evolutionary genomic changes. These results reveal the background of genomic differences and similarities between Dothideomycete species. Wide diversity as well as conservation on genome features forms the potential genomic basis of the pathogen specialization, such as pathogenicity to woody vs. herbaceous hosts. Through comparative genome analysis among five Dothideomycete species, our results have shed light on the genome features of these related fungi species. It provides insight for understanding the genomic basis of fungal pathogenicity and disease resistance in the crop hosts.
