The work is devoted to the analysis of Bosnian phraseological units with orientalism – the name of a sweet dish. The purpose of the article is to show the phraseological potential of ...borrowings-orientalisms naming sweets in the phraseology corpus of Bosnian Muslims. The relevance of the work is due to the need for a comprehensive study of phraseological units to identify common and idioethnic. The role of orientalisms in creating the imagery of phrasemes is shown in terms of ethnolinguoculturology. The material of the study is non-comparative phrasemes existing in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Methods of material processing: component analysis; linguoculturological analysis; structural and semantic modeling; comparative and synchronous descriptive. Structural and semantic models illustrate the interlanguage commonality of motivational ideas and at the same time specific, revealed at the level of imagery of phraseology. The research material shows a different phraseological potential of the names of sweet confectionery products of oriental origin. Arabisms and Persiisms as part of phraseological units are «indirect» borrowing: they entered of the inhabitants of Bosnia and Herzegovina through Turkish; they, like Ottomans, are more frequent in Bosnian phrasemes due to various historical and relevant reasons today. Some of the analyzed phrases are recorded by lexicographic sources and in other regions of Southern Slavia, but the activity of their use in live colloquial speech is typical precisely for the language of the inhabitants of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who have the so-called Bosnian Turkish.

In this paper, the Bosnian language is at the center of the problems of relation of language and nation, standard language and dialect, the relation between dialect speakers and their nationality; ...the positioning of the Bosnian language towards the European Union is also considered. On the one hand, in this context, Bosnian is a language that (officially) remains outside the borders of the EU, but at the same time, due to the different migrations, Bosnian language undoubtedly participates in European language everyday life. Although it is possible to detect the various controversies of the Bosnian language nomination and the non-positive relation to the Bosnian language and its speakers, the example of the Bosnian and elements of the Bosnian dialects in Slavonski Brod, a city on the border of the European Union, and the area does not support the articulated generally accepted opinion. Thus, Bosnian linguistics elements in the idioms at the EU border is positively evaluated. As the research shows, the attitude in the Slavonski Brodarea to Bosnian language elements is positive (or at least non-negative).
The interchanging of a word from one language to a seeming equivalent in another language is a practice that is underpinned by a universalist conceptualisation of the world. This method of ...translation is adopted by online services such as Google Translate, is common practice in bilingual dictionaries such as in English/Bosnian print dictionaries and has been adopted in numerous publications published in the English language that report on research conducted with speakers of the Bosnian language. One example is the prevalence of interchanging the English word 'refugee' for the Bosnian word 'izbjeglica' and visa versa. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork conducted with Bosnian language speakers resident in Australia and Türkiye, this article describes how the practice of interchanging from one language to another results in the dismissal of meanings and argues that translation practices need to be given more attention in the field of migrant and refugee studies.

Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork, this article presents a comparative discussion of the cultural meanings of coffee consumption for Bosnian language speakers settled in Australia and Türkiye. Whilst ...a number of scholars have argued for the cultural significance of coffee drinking among "Bosnians", to avoid the pitfalls of methodological nationalism and of serviceable translation practices, this article prioritizes the meanings that interlocutors themselves have given to consumption practices. Through ethnographic detail including the intralingual translation and co-construction of meaning that takes place during research, the article reveals the varied indexes and hidden meanings of specific references and actions in the coffee consumption practices of the Bosnian language speech community across different sites of their settlement.
This paper contains an analysis of the selected scenes from the play Krokodil Lacoste / Silvertown by Zlatko Topčić. The play won the “Alija Isaković” award in 2010, while the Cultural Association of ...Bosniaks Preporod published its dual Bosnian and English edition in 2016. The segments are analyzed parallelly in Bosnian and English for the purpose of observing the level of functional equivalence in the target text. The analysis entails extralinguistic and linguistic categories in accordance with the model developed by Hatim and Mason (1990) and later expanded by Zhang et al. (2015). The extralinguistic category includes, among others, the culture-translation relationship, and the linguistic category entails three dimensions: communicative, pragmatic, and semiotic. The analysis in this case includes the communicative and semiotic components.
The primary goal is to analyze the pragmatic value of lexemes marking names of animals and plants in Orhan Pamuk’s novel Kafamda Bir Tuhaflık. Besides, contrastive analysis was used to answer the ...question of whether lexemes marking names of animals and plants can have an identical pragmatic illocution in Turkish and Bosnian language. The initial language of the analysis is Turkish, which implies the fact that pragmatic functions of lexemes marking names of animals and plants in the Turkish language are compared to the translational equivalents in Bosnian. This is used to try to determine similarities and differences between the pragmatic values of names of animals and plants in two genetically and typologically different languages.
