She and Danny Mulheron thought funding wouldnt be difficult because of their proven track records and Mulherons high profile in front of and behind the camera, even though on the face of it, the ...pitch wasnt a particularly sexy one " a dead German Jewish classical music composer hmmm " certainly didnt tick any of the boxes.
It's not easy, say experts in pool health and safety. Even clear, sparkling pools can harbor bacteria. And a strong chlorine smell, often followed by stinging eyes and coughing, doesn't necessarily ...mean swimmers are safe: It's a noxious byproduct of chlorine binding to mass amounts of urine and sweat, said Michael Beach, an epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As more and more people jump into the pool -- particularly on hot days -- the water becomes less acidic, as measured by pH tests, and the chlorine loses effectiveness. Sweat, sunscreen, urine and soap accumulate, using up chlorine that should be fighting germs. Apartment complexes are very price-conscious and reluctant to fix broken equipment to keep the pool clean, said Javier Payan, safety chairman for the Independent Pool and Spa Service Association. Payan, who also owns a professional pool service, said he has dropped several of his apartment clients because they consistently didn't meet the pool code and ignored his improvement suggestions.
The Sandler team will assemble packages of loans or investments from such neighborhoods in the banks' markets. Sandler will then buy mortgage-backed securities or residential construction loans ...guaranteed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or the Government National Mortgage Association and pass them on to the banks, which will pay what Sandler called a "competitively priced" cost for the service.
"We can't let American companies lose another market," writes publisher Richard Fuchs in the premiere issue of BLOC, a new magazine reporting on business in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. ...Citing a "plethora of interest in Mikhail Gorbachev, but a pittance of practical business information," Fuchs, the president of Eastern Information Resources, decided to launch a full-color monthly to focus attention on the most important commercial developments in the region. Forty-thousand American businesspeople with decision making power in international trade will receive the magazine's first edition in June. (excerpt)

Here is a collection of American music from the second half of the 20th Century. The Viola Sonata by George Walker (b 1922) is a piece with strong, staccato rhythms. I found its lack of strong ...thematic material and frequent, unvaried rhythm tedious. Tricinium: Sonata for Solo Viola by Maurice Gardner (1909-2002) is a decent work, though not especially memorable.

The "bucket of messages" option. Most carriers offer discounts if you expect a steady volume of messages. At Cingular, for instance, $4.99 gets you 250 messages per month -- about 2 cents apiece. ...Watch out for wrinkles here, too. Verizon's discount plans, such as $3.99 for 200 messages (2 cents each), count messages you receive equally with those you send. If most of your messages are incoming, it's hardly a discount. At T-Mobile, you can get unlimited messaging as part of a $10-a- month add-on to any national plan. At Sprint, unlimited messaging adds $15 a month to most plans, though it's free with high-end plans. At Nextel, which caters mostly to business users, unlimited messaging adds $7.50 a month.
