As the English language spreads across the world like wildfire, many scholars find themselves speculating about its future. Many have claimed that the language is destined to undergo significant ...changes even to the point of becoming unrecognizable. Just what to call it from now on is however a matter of dispute. At first blush, it might appear that this is matter of splitting hairs, since the name itself is believed to be not all that important. This paper, however, defends the idea that the name does matter a lot. This is so because the appellation we choose often carries with it associations and implications that have major consequences for the way we approach the very phenomenon. It even predisposes us in one way or another.
Na medida em que a língua inglesa se espalha com rapidez ao redor do mundo, muitos estudiosos especulam sobre seu futuro. Muitos argumentam que a língua está fadada a passar por mudanças significativas ao ponto de se tornar irreconhecível. Exatamente como denominá‐la daqui em diante é, contudo, uma questão aberta a disputas. À primeira vista, pode parecer que se trata de uma questão de se fazer distinções demasiado sutis, já que se supõe que o nome em si não é tão importante assim. Este trabalho, todavia, defende a idéia de que o nome importa, sim, e muito. Isso porque o nome que escolhemos frequentemente carrega consigo associações e implicações que têm conseqüências maiores para a forma como abordamos o próprio fenômeno. Ele até nos predispõe em uma direção ou outra.

Despite the current European recommendations in favour of developing linguistic plurality, English in France now occupies a well-established hegemonic position in the world of work. For the last ten ...years or so, the anglicization of some companies has progressed more and more rapidly and seems, in certain cases, to originate from the fact that these companies want to be noticed, with this issue forming part of their managerial ideology. The insertion of "all-English" at work often takes place at the same time as structural changes motivated by involvement in the globalisation process. It is necessary to analyze these phenomena from a sociolinguistic point of view in connection with the French system representation. This is how, according to ordinary representations, a simplified form of English has come to exist, globish, considered as the most appropriate form of English inside the company. However, there is probably not only one globish but several globishes linked to context and to the speakers using them.
Malgré les recommandations européennes actuelles en matière de développement de la pluralité linguistique, l'anglais occupe aujourd'hui en France une position hégémonique consolidée, dans le monde du travail. Depuis une dizaine d'années, l'anglicisation de certaines entreprises s'est accélérée et semble, dans certains cas, répondre à des questions d'affichage en lien avec l'idéologie managériale. La diffusion du «tout-anglais» au travail accompagne souvent des changements structurels motivés par l'inscription dans un processus de mondialisation. Il convient d'analyser ces phénomènes d'un point de vue sociolinguistique en lien avec le système représentationnel français. C'est ainsi que, selon les représentations ordinaires, il existerait une forme d'anglais simplifiée, le globish, qui serait la forme d'anglais la plus adaptée au monde de l'entreprise. Pourtant, il n'existe probablement pas un globish mais des globishes en lien avec leurs contextes et avec les locuteurs qui les utilisent.

The aim of this presentation is to show the steps taken to ensure the standardisation and consistency in translating EU documents in Turkey. The organisation, which deals with EU affairs in Turkey, ...is The Secretariat General for EU Affairs (EUSG). In order to cope with the translation and revision of the primary and secondary legislation, the capacity of the Translation Coordination Unit in EUSG was strengthened by an EU funded project in 2008. A glossary of approximately 7,000 terms was published to ensure the consistency in terminology used in translating the EU documents. Hacettepe University, conducted an EU funded project, TermTurk, in order to create awareness of terminology issues.
L'objectif de ma contribution est de montrer le chemin suivi en Turquie pour assurer une standardisation et une cohérence dans la traduction de documents émanant de l'UE. En Turquie, l'instance qui traite des affaires de l'UE est le Secrétariat Général des Affaires UE (SGUE). Pour faire face aux exigences en termes de traduction et de révision du droit communautaire, les capacités de l'Unité de Coordination de la Traduction au sein du SGUE ont été renforcées en 2008 par un projet financé par l'UE. Un glossaire d'environ 7000 entrées a été publié pour assurer une cohérence terminologique dans la traduction de documents UE. Par ailleurs, l'Université Hacettepe a coordonné un projet UE «TermTurk», avec pour objectif la mise en avant des questions de terminologie.
