Los desarrollos de la sociología del cuerpo y de la sociología de la salud nos impelen a indagar en las resistencias corporales contra las definiciones hegemónicas biomédicas sobre la normatividad ...corporal. Teniendo en cuenta que el cuerpo es objeto social definido por las instituciones, el análisis de los itinerarios corporales nos lleva a vislumbrar modos de subversión, resistencia y desestabilización de las definiciones biomédicas. En el presente artículo se aborda el papel de la ciencia moderna y la tecnología en la observación y el diagnóstico del cuerpo y sus consecuencias en la definición de la salud y la enfermedad, lo normal y lo patológico. En segundo lugar, se analiza la biomedicina como institución que (re)ordena el género y apuntala el dimorfismo sexual a través de los debates sobre la despatologización y la disnormalidad. También se discuten las implicaciones de la tecnología y la medicina en los procesos de subjetivación neoliberal promocionados por las prácticas de optimización corporal.
