Today's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth come out at younger ages, and public support for LGBT issues has dramatically increased, so why do LGBT youth continue to be at high risk ...for compromised mental health? We provide an overview of the contemporary context for LGBT youth, followed by a review of current science on LGBT youth mental health. Research in the past decade has identified risk and protective factors for mental health, which point to promising directions for prevention, intervention, and treatment. Legal and policy successes have set the stage for advances in programs and practices that may foster LGBT youth mental health. Implications for clinical care are discussed, and important areas for new research and practice are identified.
La pandémie de COVID-19 a conduit de nombreux pays à travers le monde, et notamment le Chili à adopter diverses mesures, y compris le confinement physique et social. Les effets de ces mesures, ...nécessaires pour empêcher la propagation du virus, doivent être étudiées. En particulier, on sait que les quarantaines ont un impact sur la qualité de vie et le bien-être (par exemple, les symptômes associés tels que la dépression, l’anxiété, le stress post-traumatique et autres conséquences psychosociales). En outre, on suppose que ces effets sont plus prononcés dans des populations déjà vulnérables, comme les personnes LGBT. Cet article décrit les principales mesures adoptées par la population LGBT, au Chili, en réponse à la situation de quarantaine pour éviter le COVID-19 et ses conséquences psychosociales.
Un échantillonnage non probabiliste a été construit. Une enquête en ligne auto-administrée a permis de recueillir 1181 questionnaires. Il s’agissait de lesbiennes, de gays, de bisexuels et de transgenres âgés de plus de 18 ans au Chili.
Près de huit participants sur dix étaient en situation de quarantaine totale. 18,2 % d’entre eux étaient en isolement partiel et seulement 4,6 % n’étaient pas en quarantaine. Le COVID-19 a touché la majorité des participants LGBT et en outre, et en outre, dans une certaine mesure, il a affecté émotionnellement la grande majorité d’entre eux. En d’autres termes, la pandémie a affecté leur vie. Cet impact psychosocial de la COVID a été plus important pour les personnes qui se définissent comme *sexuelles (y compris les homosexuels, les asexués, les pansexuels, les démisexuels).

COVID-19 pandemic has led many countries around the world, including Chile, to take various measures, including physical and, social isolation. The effects of these measures, necessary to prevent the virus from spreading, must be studied. In particular, quarantines are known to have an impact on quality of life and well-being (for example, associated symptoms such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and other psychosocial consequences). Furthermore, these effects are expected to be more pronounced in previously disadvantaged populations, such as LGBT people. This paper describes the main measures taken by LGBT population during quarantine to avoid COVID-19 and its psychosocial consequences on an individual and social basis.
Non-probability sampling was used. An online self-administered survey including 1181 participants was used. These were lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender residents over 18 years old from Chile.
Almost eight out of ten participants were in a total quarantine situation. From them, 18.2% were in partial isolation and only 4.6% were not in quarantine. COVID-19 has affected almost all the LGBT participants to a certain extent. COVID-19 has emotionally affected the vast majority of the LGBT participants to a certain extent. In other words, the pandemic has affected their lives. This psychosocial impact of COVID has been greater for people who define themselves as *sexual (include queer, asexual, pansexual, demisexual).
The measures taken to prevent the virus transmission significantly affect LGBT people's life. In particular, these measures affect *sexual people. *sexual people must manage discrimination and misunderstanding of their identity in many contexts including their family.
Intimate Partner Violence can affect the LGBT+ population with the same prevalence as their heterosexual peers. This study explored how outness and internalized homophobia in the LGBT+ population ...correlate with intimate partner violence. The Internalized Homophobia Scale, the Conflict Tactics Scale 2 and the Outness Inventory were applied to 48 gay, lesbian, and bisexual men, women and non-binary participants. Higher levels of outness were positively correlated with internalized homophobia and sexual coercion. Higher levels of internalized homophobia were negatively correlated with victimization in negotiations with a partner.
Trata-se do resultado de uma pesquisa que propôs problematizar a forma que alunos e alunas LGBT, matriculados no Ensino Médio em uma escola pública da Rede Estadual de Ensino do Estado de Mato Grosso ...do Sul, no município de Campo Grande, agem diante dos dispositivos de sujeição a que são submetidos, pelas condições culturais, nas suas sexualidades. O objetivo do estudo foi compreender de que modo os sujeitos envolvidos (jovens adolescentes) lidam com os preconceitos e exercitam práticas de si que impactam o discurso de que a escola é heteronormativa. O lastro teórico parte de alguns postulados Foucaultianos, sustentado por uma base empírica e analítica, cujos procedimentos privilegiam aspectos etnográficos, como o cotidiano escolar e a educação, concebidos pelos processos das práticas sociais. A problemática posta é de que a escola seja exclusivamente heteronormativa, nas diferentes facetas da instituição, é abalada frente às diversas dinâmicas, práticas e discursos que ocorrem no intenso jogo do corpo que marca os corredores desta instituição. Este trabalho chacoalha a visão restrita e naturalizada de um conceito sobre a escola de que os corpos são exclusivamente resultados de uma heteronormatividade, mas assinala que o corpo trans também tensiona o poder e os preconceitos.
Professionals have been engaging in self-study and research into the unique needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in health care broadly, and in the therapy context more ...specifically. As a result, the literature on LGBT health and healthcare disparities has expanded exponentially in recent years. However, less focus has been placed on the specific needs of learners and teachers interested in developing expertise in working with these populations. The goal of this special series was to assist psychologists in understanding the core elements of training for work with sexual and gender minority people and to begin to define clinical competency with these groups. For this series, experts in the field were asked to use an empirical focus for evaluating the various aspects of LGBT health training, using the framework of minority populations. Use of the LGBT acronym should be interpreted broadly throughout this issue and encompasses any individual who identifies as a sexual or gender minority person, including those who are questioning or in search of their identities, irrespective of labels. Although exact prevalence figures are not known for sexual and gender minority individuals, it is known that being in these minority groups puts an individual under increased stress which can lead to increased mental and physical health complaints (Institute of Medicine, 2011). As mental health professionals, we owe it to ourselves and the field to consider ways to lessen this burden by improving our own training and those we teach in the treatment of sexual and gender minority people. El artículo estudia el origen y la consolidación de la imagen del grupo los Felipitos como parte de la historia del movimiento de disidencia sexual y de género de Bogotá. Se analizan las fuentes ...usadas en investigaciones académicas y de difusión. Además, se hace un análisis del grupo en un contexto global, encontrando similitudes entre los Felipitos y el movimiento homofílico de la región. La consolidación del grupo como antecedente del movimiento de disidencia sexual y de género colombiano está ligado a la entrada del sector en las políticas públicas de Bogotá a inicios del siglo XXI. De esta manera se devela el contexto político detrás de la consolidación de una imagen del pasado.

In a Queer Time and Place opens with a probing analysis of the life and death of Brandon Teena, a young transgender man who was brutally murdered in small-town Nebraska. After looking at mainstream representations of the transgender body as exhibited in the media frenzy surrounding this highly visible case and the Oscar-winning film based on Brandon's story, Boys Don’t Cry , Halberstam turns her attention to the cultural and artistic production of queers themselves. She examines the “transgender gaze,” as rendered in small art-house films like By Hook or By Crook , as well as figurations of ambiguous embodiment in the art of Del LaGrace Volcano, Jenny Saville, Eva Hesse, Shirin Neshat, and others. She then exposes the influence of lesbian drag king cultures upon hetero-male comic films, such as Austin Powers and The Full Monty , and, finally, points to dyke subcultures as one site for the development of queer counterpublics and queer temporalities.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare reports that approximately 60% of HIV/AIDS cases in Japan are among men who have sex with men (MSM).Many MSM are unable to tell their peers at school or ...work, or even their families that they are homosexual or bisexual, and they live their lives hiding who they are and pretending to be "heterosexual" This situation causes stress and has a significant impact on mental health, and previous studies have pointed out that it is associated with risky behavior for HIV infection.School education has thus far offered limited positive representation of MSM and other sexual minorities. The risk of the same-sex transmission of HIV has not received much coverage in school AIDS prevention education. As a result, sexual minority youths enter young adulthood without the appropriate and prerequisite information that is necessary to protect themselves and others from HIV infection.Since 2007, the authors have run a non-profit organization to serve MSM and other sexual minorities, with a special focus on their mental and physical health, and on providing a safe space where they can be themselves. The results of a questionnaire survey taken by the organization’s walk-in clients indicate that COVID-19 made visitors more vulnerable mentally, especially among those who live with their parents and have not come out, and among those who have not met others of the same sexuality due to pandemic restrictions.The number of opportunities for LGBT issues to be addressed in textbooks and teacher training is gradually increasing. However, knowledge and information are still insufficient.It is hoped that more venues will be created that sexual minority youth can access with peace of mind, and that awareness-raising activities and support systems will be expanded in the future.
This paper simultaneously explores the relationship between social status, routine activity theory, and repeat victimization. This study compares the effects of lifestyle with key social status ...variables like gender, race, and sexuality, on varying degrees of victimization to answer the question: do routine activities or social status predict repeat victimization? This research is a secondary data analysis using two waves of the Canadian Victimization Survey from 2004 and 2009. Both a logistic regression and multinomial logistic regression are used to analyze the possible causes of repeat victimization. Overall, social status is influenced by lifestyle when predicting victimization; however, key social status variables predict high levels of victimization such as identifying as gay or lesbian or being an Aboriginal Canadian. The most powerful indicator of victimization was if a victim had been previously arrested themselves. The results of this study suggest that, while lifestyle is a strong predictor of victimization, minority groups are still at risk of being victimized at higher levels.
