Koch (1959) suggested that the basal pillow breccia of the volcanic sequence on southwestern Nûgssuaq around Nûk qiterdleq is equivalent to sediments from the Upper Atanikerdluk Formation deposited ...further east; and also that the tuffhorizons found intercaiated among the sediments in the Naujat Member of the Upper Atanikerdluk Formation and in the Abraham Member of the Upper Agatdal Formation are equivalent in time to these early breccias. Pedersen (1973) tentatively correlated interbasaltic bituminous shales found l km above the base of the vo1canic sequence on northern Disko with sedimentary rocks ofthe Upper Atanikerdluk Formation and Upper Agatdal Formation on Nûgssuaq.
Four teams took part in field work in the 1976 season, the penultimate in the project started in 1972 to map the 1:100 000 scale Buksefjorden sheet. Chadwick completed mapping Angissorssuaq and ...surrounding islands; Coe worked between Taserssuatssiat and Alángordlia; Compton mapped between the western part of Taserssuatssiait and Buksefjorden, and Nutman began a detailed study of Amitsoq gneisses and rocks ofthe Akilia association in the Narssaq peninsula and islands to the south and west. As in the first two years of the project, the programme was not run from a GGU base camp, but help from staff at the Itivnera base in Godthåbsfjord is acknowledged. Valuable assistance was also received from officials at Nordafar. We also wish to acknowledge the help given (often under great difficulties) by GGU skipper Flemming Nielsen and his crew and by staff and pilots of Greenlandair Charter AIS.
The tungsten mineral scheelite has not previously been reported from the Godthåb area in West Greenland. The first indications of its presence were found in heavy mineral concentrates from a stream ...on Storø in Godthåbsfjord. Exploration for scheelite in Greenland is difficult. A systematic stream-sediment programme cannot be undertaken before mid-June because many of the streams are frozen or covered with snow until then. Examination in ultra-violet light must be carried out in darkness so scheelite cannot be looked for before the end of August because of the midnight sun and the work must be finished by early September when snow covers the ground. A minor difficulty in this context is the abundance of lichens with bluish white fluorescence which cover the rock surfaces. The following report is based on field observations only. Laboratory work was limited to X-ray identification ofscheelite in two heavy mineral concentrates and in two rock samples.
The programme of field investigations in the north of the Ivisartoq region begun in 1981 by Chadwick & Crewe (1982) was continued in 1982. Julia Park began mapping the Taserssuaq granodiorite, its ...host rocks and the Ataneq fault in the north-west. Dur team was joined by D. Bellur, Geological Survey of India, nominally as an assistant. In this report we present only summary notes of new findings relevant to the interpretation of the geometry and chronology of this segment of the Archaean crust in southern West Greenland. We use the established terminology for the Archaean rocks of the Godthåbsfjord region.
The geology of Kangiussap nuna has been described by Walton (1976), Allaart et al., (1977) and more recently, folIowing 1:20000 mapping, by Coe & Robertson (1982) (see also Brewer et al., this ...report). A heterogeneous banded gneiss believed to be Amitsoq is intruded by multiphase Nl1k gneiss. Coe & Robertson (1982) recognised five phases of Nl1k gneiss (Nl1k 1-5). These are cut by undeformed to weakly foliated granites and pegmatites which were judged to be of Qorqut age (Coe & Robertson, 1982). This report presents the results of Rb-Sr whole rock-analyses and provisional Pb isotope results on representative samples of Nl1k 1 to 4 and Qorqut granite (terminology of Coe & Robertson, 1982). These samples were collected during field mapping in 1981 as part of the Ivisiirtoq project for the Geological Survey of Greenland at the University of Exeter. Rb-Sr ratios were determined by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry at the University of Oxford. Sr and Pb isotopes were measured in the same laboratories on VG Micromass 30 and Isomass 54E mass spectrometers, respectively. The generous assistance of P. N. Taylor and S. The geology of the Godthåb area, West Greenland, has been studied for several decades, mainly by the Geological Survey of Greenland (GGU), but also by groups from British and other Universities. This ...work has resulted in a detailed understanding of most of the major rock forming events which have affected the area. However, one important aspect af the geology has been largely negleeted in the previous work, that is the metal!ogeny of the rock units in the area. Mining companies have undertaken only scattered work in the area, e.g. on the molybdenite mineralisation in Narssaq, south of Godthåb. It was therefore decided to launch a reconnaissance study of the mineralisations of one of the major rock units, the Malene supracrustals. Rather detailed work was carried out on Qilángarssuit, Sagdlerssua and Simiutat, while Narssaq, Angissunguaq and Mitsimavissuaq were visited for a short period only.
