This case introduces you to the use of data analytics in accounting for purposes of identifying irregularities in a large data set of invoices using Microsoft Power BI. The goal of this case is two-fold. First, the case provides you a guided approach to navigating Power BI at the beginner level. Second, the case serves as an introduction to the use of data analytics in an auditing context for purposes of identifying irregularities in a large data set of invoices. You will evaluate the data set according to Benford’s Law and create an interactive “dashboard” visualization to present the results of your analysis to a supervisor. Additionally, you will document your findings in a written report according to professional auditing standards. We provide evidence of case efficacy in both a graduate-level fraud auditing course as well as an undergraduate accounting information systems (AIS) course with a data analytics focus. The case is suitable as an introductory data analytics assignment in any course with an auditing, fraud, forensics, AIS, or data analytics focus where students have little or no prior experience with Power BI. The case may also be used as an introduction to Benford’s Law as students are not required to have prior experience with Benford’s Law in order to complete the assignment.
Dinas Kesehatan Kota Pekanbaru merupakan lembaga pemerintahan yang berwenang dan bertanggungjawab di bidang kesehatan. Salah satu fungsi dari Dinas Kesehatan Kota Pekanbaru yaitu melakukan pembinaan ...serta pengawasan mutu Pelayanan Kesehatan Dasar dan Rujukan. Pembinaan dan pengawasan dilakukan sebagai usaha untuk meningkatkan kepatuhan pengukuran dan pelaporan dari indikator mutu termasuk yang bersifat mandatory. Saat ini Dinas Kesehatan Kota Pekanbaru mengalami kendala dalam memanfaatkan data secara optimal karena pengolahan data masih terbatas. Laporan kinerja diunduh dalam bentuk excel dari aplikasi Mutufasyankes kemudian dilakukan analisis secara manual. Kondisi tersebut menyebabkan analisis kualitas layanan kesehatan untuk menyusun strategi pengembangan mutu pelayanan kesehatan memerlukan waktu yang lama karena harus mengolah data secara manual dari rekap data laporan kinerja rumah sakit setiap bulan. Analisa pada laporan kinerja pun tidak seragam sehingga pernyataan pada rencana tindak lanjut berbeda-beda. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan sebuah Business Intelligence yang dapat memudahkan dalam pengolahan data dan visualisasi dashboard sehingga menghasilkan informasi untuk membantu pendukung keputusan dalam strategi pengembangan mutu pelayanan kesehatan di Kota Pekanbaru. Metode yang dilakukan yaitu observasi, wawancara, analisis dokumen, studi literatur dan tahapan Roadmap BI yang terdiri dari justification, planning, business analysis, dan construction. Hasil penelitian berupa dashboard yang terdiri dari dashboard informasi umum, dashboard monitoring, dashboard evaluasi, dashboard analisa capaian, dan dashboard clustering. Hasil pengujian menggunakan metode user acceptance test (UAT) telah menunjukkan bahwa tingkat penerimaan responden sangat tinggi yaitu sebesar 90%. Dengan penerapan business intelligence, informasi mengenai kualitas layanan rumah sakit dari data indikator nasional mutu dapat diakses dan digunakan dalam menyusun strategi pengembangan mutu pelayanan kesehatan.
This paper provides an analysis of H-index and paper citations in the computer science field using K-Means Clustering Algorithm. By leveraging cutting edge visual analytics through the use of Power ...BI and Orange Data Mining tool with K-Means clustering algorithm, we are able to present a comprehensive review of how H-index and citations impact the scholarly evaluation of authors in computer science field. The analysis obtained will assist academics seeking to expand their research influence while providing additional context to the general audience seeking to understand how machine learning algorithms can contribute to data exploration. The analysis conducted has revealed that area of research which has the highest value of citation and H-index include the following topics: Artificial-Intelligence, Computational-Intelligence, Data-mining, Evolutionary-Algorithms, and Big Data Analytics. Finally, the analysis of this research clearly demonstrated that paper citations remain an important factor for determining scientific impact in disciplines such as computer science given its close relationship with established metrics such as h-index scores.
Dada la emergencia que el Ecuador y el mundo están atravesando a causa del Covid- 19, se vuelve indispensable la descripción rápida y el análisis efectivo de las diferentes variables que explican la ...evolución de una enfermedad contagiosa. El propósito de este trabajo es mostrar la versatilidad que Microsoft Power BI como herramienta de inteligencia de negocios posee para describir y analizar la información emitida por las entidades oficiales de salud que permitan generar un rápido conocimiento y análisis de los datos de modo que se puedan tomar decisiones correctas respecto al control de la pandemia. Para esto, se recolectó la información oficial que provee el Ministerio de Salud Pública del Ecuador (MSP) y otros portales de noticias. Esta información fue procesada y analizada mediante la plataforma Power BI y el software estadístico R. El análisis de los datos recientes sobre Covid-19 muestran que la enfermedad aún se expande en algunas localidades del país. La propuesta sería dar más y mejor acceso a datos abiertos e innovar agregando inteligencia de negocios para controlar esta pandemia.
The process of world globalization, labor, and academic mobility, the visa-free regime with the EU countries have caused a significant revival of migration processes in Ukraine. However, there is ...still the research gap in the most informative, and, at the same time, accurate method of the assessment and forecasting of the migration flows. Thus, the object of research is migration processes (mostly emphasizing the emigration flows). The motives, causes of emigration processes, and their relationship with the economic state were analyzed. The impact factors of external labor migration on the economy of the host countries were revealed, particularly the negative and positive impacts of emigration on the socio-economic situation in Ukraine and the migration attitude of Ukrainians were assessed.The main result of study is further development of the econometric model for forecasting the number of emigrants from Ukraine to other countries in the nearest future. The model considers the factors of minimum wage lavel in Ukraine, the number of open vacancies in the countries of Eastern Europe, and the level of competition for jobs. According to the results of forecasting based on Maple computer algebra system and Microsoft Power BI analytical platform, by the end of 2019, the number of emigrants from Ukraine supposed to be the largest in the last four years and to reach the estimates in the range from 2,444 to 2,550 million people, which may indicate a new third wave of emigration processes.

Objectives
Blood culture contamination is a major problem in health care, with significant impacts on both patient safety and cost. Initiatives to reduce blood culture contamination require ...a reliable, consistent metric to track the success of interventions. The objective of our project was to establish a standardized definition of blood culture contamination suitable for use in a Veterans Health Administration (VHA) national data query, then to validate this definition and query. A secondary objective was to construct a national VHA data dashboard to display the data from this query that could be used in VHA quality improvement projects aimed at reducing blood culture contamination.
Methods
A VHA microbiology expert work group was formed to generate a standardized definition and oversee the validation studies. The standardized definition was used to generate data for calendar year 2021 using a Structured Query Language data query. Twelve VHA hospital microbiology laboratories compared the data from the query against their own locally derived contamination data and recorded those data in a data collection worksheet that all sites used. Data were collated and presented to the work group.
Results
More than 50,000 blood culture accessions were in the validation data set, with more than 1,200 contamination events. The overall blood culture contamination rate for the 12 facilities participating was 2.56% with local definitions and data and 2.43% with the standardized definitions and data query. The main differences noted between the 2 data sets were deemed to be issues in local definitions. The query and definition were then converted into a national data dashboard that all VHA facilities can now access.
Conclusions
A standardized definition for blood culture contamination and a national data query were validated for enterprise-wide VHA use. To our knowledge, this represents the first reported standardized, validated, and automated approach for calculating and tracking blood culture contamination. This tool will be key in quality initiatives aimed at reducing contamination events in VHA.
