Venerande u Starom gradu Baru zapravo pripadala samostanu dumni sv. Andrije. Andriju.
The monastery structure with a church called St. Veneranda, a complex of buildings in Bar, has been archaeologically researched, restored, and conserved on several occasions. It rests on a fortification within the older city, between its sacral topography centers. For St. Andrew, the Apostle and the renaming of the cult of the monastery church - which is now dedicated to the saint Venera according to an uncertain tradition - a key indicator is the work of Vincenzo Corronelli from 1703. This author, speaking about the location of the only city well, most probably refers to the information of Archbishop of Bar Andrija Zmajević from 1688. There are scarce sources of nuns from Bar in the late Middle Ages and the monastery of St. Andrew is mentioned only in the second half of the 16th century. Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle remained in the memory of the citizens of Bar in the 16th century as one of the most tragic events. Whether this event had a share in the collective memory of the commune to such an extent as to influence the determination of the cult of the nunnery is not attested by known sources. Also, according to the available data, it is not known whether the monastery mentioned in 1570 belonged only to nuns of one order or one class, but further research could shed light on these issues. It is certain that the agglomeration of St. Andrew in Bar, located in a prominent position between the configuration of the city walls, the cathedral, and the complex of the Franciscan monastery, overlooking the out-of-city religious shrines, is connected with the Benedictine nuns. The Gothic appearance of the facade of its main church, the interior, separate portals, several attached and adapted buildings for various purposes indicate a significant property foundation of the abbey. The presence of nuns testifies to the imagery and deep layers of urbanity. The procurations of a nun from Bar were analyzed on an exemplary basis. Finally, historical sources from 1579 and 1613 suggest how the fulcrum of female spirituality in Bar has been extinguished.
Based on an official report of the legal representative (procurator) of the Benedictine nunnery of St Mary in Zadar, the paper discusses the size of monastic estates in the second half of the 16th ...century (1562-1564). The report is today preserved in the Venetian magistracy collection Sopraintendenti alle decime del clero at the State Archives of Venice (Archivio di Stato di Venezia). Considering the value of the recorded data and the fact that the Archive of the monastery of St Mary in Zadar, as far as is known, has no systematic data on its estates for the period under consideration, the report on the estates of the Benedictine nuns of St Mary is an excellent contribution to the knowledge of the economic situation and transactions of Zadar’s nuns in the 16th century and complements the results of previous scholarly research. In addition, these data, especially the list of colons in individual villages owned by the monastery, are a first-class source for exploring the historical anthroponymy and toponymy of Zadar and its wider surroundings.
The Benedictine Monastery of St Andrew in Rab was founded in the 11th and 20th /12th century on a site between the early Romanesque church and the city walls. Of the five big Benedictine abbeys that existed on the island, it is the only one that has survived and is still active. Its rich building history was until recently obscured by radical restoration in the 19th century. Conservation and restoration researches made possible the reconstruction of individual building phases. The monastery ranks among the most significant buildings of medieval and Renaissance architecture both on the island of Rab and in the wider region.
S druge strane, franjevci u gradovima predstavljaju element
koji pridonosi razvoju gradskog života u svim sferama. U članku se prati razdoblje od
osnivanja franjevačkog samostana u Senju do početka 16. stoljeća. Povijest senjskog
srednje i jugoistočne Europe.
velikom prostoru njihove vlasti u kontekstu feudalnih odnosa srednjovjekovne Hrvatske.
Početkom 16. stoljeća i
vlasti. Samostan u Senju preživio je osmanlijska pustošenja i, slabljenjem frankopanskog
utjecaja na društvena, politička i crkvena zbivanja na tome prostoru, ušao u razdoblje
novoga vijeka.
U radu se temeljem arhivskih
izvora analizira obnova samostana i crkve sv. Marije u Zadru.
Samostan i crkva su tijekom
angloameričkog bombardiranja Zadra porušeni 1943./1944., a
ondašnje vlasti su ...1945. nisu
uspjele u svom naumu da svu imovinu i kompleks samostana sv.
Marije stave pod privremenu državnu
upravu. Od 1948. godine uz pomoć i inicijativu tadašnjeg
vodstva Jugoslavenske akademije
Crkva
sv.
mjestu planirana gradnja muzeja. Nakon godina pregovora s
gradskim i republičkim organima
dozvola za obnovu je ipak dobivena 1968. godine. Gradnja
obnove samostana trajala je do 1970.

kompleksu sv. Marije na njihovu zemljištu 1972. izgrađena je
zgrada

Benedictine nunnery and church
of St Mary in Zadar were among the last historical and cultural monuments that
were renovated after the bombing of Zadar in the Second World War. Based on the
archival documents, the author analyses the renovation of the nunnery and church of St
Mary in Zadar. Immediately after the ending of the War, in 1945 new communist regime
did not succeed to expropriate all the possessions and nunnery of St Mary, and
putting them under provisional state management. Since 1948 the management of the Yugoslav
(Croatian) academy of sciences and arts started preparations for the renovation
of the nunnery and church, this renovation was completed by 1959, and mostly
financed by funds from the Academy. In 1960 Benedictine nuns wrote an appeal to the National Committee of the municipality of Zadar, but the answer was
negative since according to the urbanistic plan this location was prevised for the building of four new museums. Because of this, Benedictine nuns, together with
the Diocesan Ordinariate, represented by – at that time young – auxiliary
bishop Msgr Marijan Oblak, started long negotiations with municipal and republic authorities in
order to achieve a compromise solution regarding the renovation of the nunnery.
Unfortunately, negotiation with the municipal authorities was not successful,
so this question of the Benedictine nunnery renovation had to be further discussed
at the highest level between ecclesiastical institutions (Episcopal Conference and
Episcopate of the Social Federative Republic of Yugoslavia) and republic
institutions (Executive Council of the Socialistic Republic of Croatia). Moreover,
even the Vatican diplomacy, that is pope Paul VI, had to intervene to stimulate
these processes. After years of negotiations with municipal and republic
authorities, with constant intermediation of the Academy and its Institute in
Zadar, the situation regarding the renovation improved and the final agreement was
settled in 1965 (i.e., 1967). This agreement regarding the renovation of the
nunnery included the establishment of a permanent exhibition of the sacral art
within the monastery complex. Nuns returned to the renovated nunnery in 1970, that
is after 26 years of “exile”. Finally, the building of the museum for the
permanent exhibition of sacral art was finished in 1972, and the exhibition was opened for the public in 1976.

The author delivers a general history of the Abbey of St James, from its beginnings in the Middle Ages up to contemporary times. Based on the information from the relevant historiographical ...literature, the author emphasizes discussion about the time and reasons when Benedictines have left the Abbey, as well as the importance of Augustinians in the period between the mid-sixteenth and mid-eighteenth centuries. Analysis of the relevant literature and archival unpublished sources enabled the author to propose answers to some up-to-now unanswered questions regarding the history of the Abbey after which is named Town of Opatija. From the eighteenth century, this Abbey was organizationally subjected to the Jesuit College in Rijeka, and later to the archdeacon of Collegiate Chapter at Rijeka. After the Diocese of Rijeka was founded the title of the abbot of St James became a part of the title of the Bishop of Rijeka.
Na temelju sačuvanih izvora u Hrvatskoj i u inozemstvu autor donosi do sada nepoznate podatke o odnosu riječkih augustinaca i medicine.
The Order of St. Augustine (Ordo Eremitarum Sancti Augustini) was the first religious community in Rijeka. The monastery of St. Jerome, founded by the noble families of Devin and Walsee, existed from the 14th century till 1788, when it was dissolved by Joseph II. Unfortunately, the past of the Augustine Monastery of St. Jerome is mostly unknown. On the basis of largely unexplored sources in Croatia and overseas, the author reveals several facts about the relation between Rijeka’s Augustinian community and medicine. The paper includes an important piece of information concerning the existence of a hospital on the location of Andrejšćica in Rijeka, founded in the 15th century, which has so far been unknown. Augustinian’s sources (16th and 18th century) show the presence of several shaver-surgeon (barbitonsorius) and other various relevant topics for the history of medicine in Rijeka – pharmacopola, aromatarius etc.
