Iskanje najboljše strategije trajnostnega razvoja je glavni cilj lokalnih oblasti in inovativnih urbanistov po vsem svetu. Zaradi različnih pogledov in interesov so posegi na stiku pristanišča z ...mestom in obsežna regeneracija mestnega nabrežja med najzapletenejšimi urbanističnimi nalogami. Za sodobno mesto ima razvoj pristanišča nedvomno največje ekološke, družbene in prometne posledice in koristi. Največja svetovna morska pristanišča selijo tovorne terminale iz starih mestnih jeder in prevzemajo naprednejše funkcije, ki niso povezane s pomorstvom, projekti, pri katerih je delež zasebnih in javnih površin enakovreden, pa dobivajo čedalje večji zagon. Najopaznejši projekti umikanja tovornih pristanišč iz starih mestnih jeder in regeneracije pristaniških območij potekajo v evropskih mestih. Za boljše razumevanje različnih uporabljenih pristopov so v članku predstavljeni primeri regeneracije pristanišč v Bilbau, Barceloni in Oslu, ki omogočajo vpogled v izkušnje, pridobljene na različnih krajih in v različnih načrtovalskih razmerah. V raziskavi, predstavljeni v tem članku, se avtorja osredotočata na ukrajinsko pristaniško mesto Odesa, pri čemer poskušata določiti najuspešnejšo strategijo razvoja stika pristanišča z mestom v trenutnih gospodarskih in geopolitičnih razmerah. Z združevanjem zamisli in raziskav urbanistov s področja upravljanja, ekonomije in prometne geografije ter upoštevanjem politik in socioloških vidikov prispevata k boljšemu poznavanju in razumevanju te problematike, na podlagi česar se lahko zagotovi trajnostni razvoj obalnih mest držav v razvoju.
An introduction to an original poetic voice from eastern Ukraine with deep roots in the unique cultural landscape of post-Soviet devastation

ponašanja pri transferu financijskih sredstava u domovinu. Također ispituje odrednice integracije
i potvrđuje ...hipotezu o prestanku transfera novca ukrajinskih migranata iz Češke Republike
i Italije. Naše istraživanje pokušava odgovoriti na brojna nova pitanja utvrđujući postoje
li neke posebne značajke ukrajinskih migranata u EU i njihovih obitelji u Ukrajini. Rezultati
pokazuju da su migracijske karakteristike etničke grupe ili nacije iste, bez obzira na zemlju
migracije. Ponašanje ukrajinskih migranata u Češkoj i Italiji u vezi s transferom novca u domovinu
značajno određuje njihova financijska situacija, demografska obilježja, stupanj radnog
znanja i vještina te stupanj integracije u novu zemlju kao i specifičnost društvenog konteksta.
Štoviše, postoje dokazi da ukrajinski migranti koji su bolje uklopljeni u novu zemlju upućuju
manje novčanih transfera u domovinu ili to uopće ne čine.

What happens when a region accustomed to violent shifts in borders is subjected to a new, peaceful partitioning? Has the European Union spent the last decade creating a new Iron Curtain at its ...fringes?Building Fortress Europe: The Polish-Ukrainian Frontierexamines these questions from the perspective of the EU's new eastern external boundary. Since the Schengen Agreement in 1985, European states have worked together to create a territory free of internal borders and with heavily policed external boundaries. In 2004 those boundaries shifted east as the EU expanded to include eight postsocialist countries-including Poland but excluding neighboring Ukraine. Through an analysis of their shared frontier,Building Fortress Europeprovides an ethnographic examination of the human, social, and political consequences of developing a specialized, targeted, and legally advanced border regime in the enlarged EU. Based on fieldwork conducted with border guards, officials, and migrants shuttling between Poland and Ukraine as well as extensive archival research,Building Fortress Europeshows how people in the two countries are adjusting to living on opposite sides of a new divide. Anthropologist Karolina S. Follis argues that the policing of economic migrants and asylum seekers is caught between the contradictory imperatives of the European Union's border security, economic needs of member states, and their declared commitment to human rights. The ethnography explores the lives of migrants, and their patterns of mobility, as framed by these contradictions. It suggests that only a political effort to address these tensions will lead to the creation of fairer and more humane border policies.

In The Near Abroad, Zbigniew Wojnowski traces how Soviet Ukrainian identities developed in dialogue and confrontation with the USSR's neighbours in Eastern Europe. The author aptly challenges the dominant chronologies of late Soviet history by arguing that patriotism framed heated debates about the future of the Soviet state even amongst the rising tide of cynicism and disengagement from public life. Wojnowski's insightful analysis illuminates the mental geographies that continue to shape relations and conflicts between Russia, Ukraine and Eastern Europe to this very day. Unlike most other histories of Ukraine, The Near Abroad does not reduce Ukrainian nationalism to anti-Soviet views and behaviours.

Attributed to an eighteenth-century Orthodox archbishop, it described the heroic struggles of the Ukrainian Cossacks. Why do some attempts to conclude alliance treaties end in failure? From the inability of European powers to form an alliance that would stop Hitler in the 1930s, to the present inability of Ukraine ...to join NATO, states frequently attempt but fail to form alliance treaties. In Arguing about Alliances, Paul Poast sheds new light on the purpose of alliance treaties by recognizing that such treaties come from negotiations, and that negotiations can end in failure. In a book that bridges Stephen Walt's Origins of Alliance and Glenn Snyder's Alliance Politics, two classic works on alliances, Poast identifies two conditions that result in non-agreement: major incompatibilities in the internal war plans of the participants, and attractive alternatives to a negotiated agreement for various parties to the negotiations. As a result, Arguing about Alliances focuses on a group of states largely ignored by scholars: states that have attempted to form alliance treaties but failed. Poast suggests that to explain the outcomes of negotiations, specifically how they can end without agreement, we must pay particular attention to the wartime planning and coordinating functions of alliance treaties. Through his exploration of the outcomes of negotiations from European alliance negotiations between 1815 and 1945, Poast offers a typology of alliance treaty negotiations and establishes what conditions are most likely to stymie the attempt to formalize recognition of common national interests.
