Een grote dikke man (de kwakzalver) staat voor een groep omstanders. Op een laag ...tafeltje staan zijn attributen: flessen, pincetten, mesjes en enkele 'stenen'. Een elegant paar staat voor hem. De heer naast hem zoekt in zijn hand geld om de kwakzalver te betalen. Naast hem een oude man met lange baard en bontmuts op. Achter de kwakzalver of 'keisnijder' hangt een doek aan twee stokken waarop stenen tentoongesteld zijn, als de zichtbare bewijzen van goed geslaagde 'kei-operaties'.
