There is increasing evidence that cartoon fans may make pilgrimages to cartoon sites where the displays are derived from popular plots, scenes, and characters. Through a phenomenological lens with ...data obtained from semi-structured interviews, this study reveals five travel motivations concerning the cartoon pilgrimage phenomenon, including heroism and princessism, nostalgia, plot framing, resonance between virtual and reality, and deep cultural learning. The present inquiry further contributes to the literature by illuminating a process leading from dreams, reverie, and fantasy manifested in the animated virtual world, to the reality realized through deep immersion and engrossment in the tourism space.
Cartoon animation video is a popular visual entertainment form worldwide, however many classic animations were produced in a 4:3 aspect ratio that is incompatible with modern widescreen displays. ...Existing methods like cropping lead to information loss while retargeting causes distortion. Animation companies still rely on manual labor to renovate classic cartoon animations, which is tedious and labor-intensive, but can yield higher-quality videos. Conventional extrapolation or inpainting methods tailored for natural videos struggle with cartoon animations due to the lack of textures in anime, which affects the motion estimation of the objects. In this paper, we propose a novel framework designed to automatically outpaint 4:3 anime to 16:9 via region-guided motion inference. Our core concept is to identify the motion correspondences between frames within a sequence in order to reconstruct missing pixels. Initially, we estimate optical flow guided by region information to address challenges posed by exaggerated movements and solid-color regions in cartoon animations. Subsequently, frames are stitched to produce a pre-filled guide frame, offering structural clues for the extension of optical flow maps. Finally, a voting and fusion scheme utilizes learned fusion weights to blend the aligned neighboring reference frames, resulting in the final outpainting frame. Extensive experiments confirm the superiority of our approach over existing methods.
Abstract
An anti-magic labeling of a finite simple undirected graph
G
is a bijection from the set of edges to the set of integers {1, 2,…, |
E
(
G
)|} such that the vertex sums are pairwise distinct, ...where the vertex sum at one vertex is the sum of labels of all edges incident to such vertex. A graph is called anti-magic if it admits an anti-magic labeling. In this paper, we established an anti-magic labeling of the cartoon flowers. We further define a new subclass of the cartoon flower called the consecutive wounded cartoon flower and then established an anti-magic labeling of the consecutive wounded cartoon flowers.

Cartoonists’ skill to reveal important problems, to influence and construct public opinion has become a great power. This study examines humour as a social instrument and focuses on the expression of ...humour, or irony in particular, in famous American cartoonist Joel Pett’s overpopulation cartoons. The analysis explores the role, interaction and synergic effect of verbal and visual modes in constructing an ironic attitude towards the negligence of urgent global issues. Four selected Joel Pett’s environmental cartoons are analysed in detail, examining their content, the incongruity between the implied and explicit messages, the verbal mode and its interplay with the pictorial signs, and the amusing effect which is achieved by multimodality. The message communicated via visual mode contributes to the context of the cartoon, helping the reader comprehend the implications, and correlates with the verbal means rendering its hilarious message. Multimodality is determined as an essential element that allowed the reader to perceive humour.
