Talking and thinking about death in school education encourages the spiritual development of students and constitutes an objective of the Catholic religion subject in Chile in both primary and ...secondary education. This article aims to examine the teachers' perspectives who teach the Catholic religion on the matter. In particular, what disposition they have when approaching death with their students, what theological knowledge they possess on the subject of death, and what relationship exists between the domain of this theological knowledge and readiness for education about death. Based on quantitative methods, the results show a high willingness of teachers towards death education and high confidence in the abilities to carry it out. Nevertheless, a medium theological knowledge is identified, which is not related to the disposition to death education. The study concludes by discussing the difficulties of death education, which is not entirely based on theological knowledge.
This article reflects on how the teaching of the Catholic religion (Irc) can cope with the intercultural issue of religious pluralism within the Italian school system. The theme of confessionality, ...understood as a theological dimension within the epistemological status of the discipline and as a link between a teaching and a religious community, from a pedagogical point of view, can be a resource for an authentic interreligious dialogue in the school, while maintaining distinct the aims of religious education and intercultural education.
Purpose – The critical thinking ability of students forms the foundation for developing competent learners. This critical thinking ability can be facilitated through the application of the Flipped ...Classroom learning model. The purpose of this research is to understand the implementation of the Flipped Classroom model to enhance students' critical thinking skills in Catholic religious education. Method – This research method used by researchers is qualitative. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data processing techniques are done through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings – The findings of this study indicate that improving students' critical thinking skills in Catholic religion learning can be done in two ways, namely the application of the Flipped Classroom learning model refers to discussion preparation and discussion activities as well as through interpretation, analysis, evaluation and inference. Research Implications – This research has relevant implications for the Flipped Classroom learning model on improving students' critical thinking skills. However, this research is limited by its focus on a conceptual approach without empirical testing so further research is needed to test the applicability of the learning model theory in actual practice in an educational setting.
Objective: To identify factors that determine the uptake of in-vitro fertilization (IVF), and to determine the predicting effect of the identified factors on the uptake of IVF among couples attending ...fertility clinic at a tertiary health institution in Benin City, Nigeria. Methods: This study adopted a cross-sectional descriptive design. A self-structured questionnaire tested was validated and administered to 250 couples who attended fertility clinic. Data were collected from March 2021 to June 2021 and were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21. Data were presented and interpreted using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics such as Chi-square, univariate statistics and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Among 250 couples, 154 (61.6%) were willing to adopt IVF. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that catholic religion odds ratio (OR) 0.21, 95% confident interval (CI) 0.54-0.73, family income (OR 1.50, 95% CI 1.10-2.00) and age (OR 1.04, 95% CI 1.01-1.10) were the major factors that determined the uptake of IVF, with P-value of <0.001, 0.018 and 0.031, respectively. Conclusions: The uptake of IVF could be sustained or improved on, if the government should improve on the cost of living for families, and religious leaders need to be encouraged to pass on the information about IVF to their members to be well guided about the possibilities of IVF.
One of the most interesting groups at the turn of the 20th century was Stańczycy, active in autonomous Galicia from the late 1860s. The name of the faction was inspired by Stańczyk, the sceptical ...jester of Sigismund the Old, the penultimate king of the powerful Jagiellonian dynasty. This conservative group published Przegląd Polski (The Polish Review), which expressed opinions that were close to the governing elite of the province. Until the end of the 1860s, they drew upon utilitarian or liberal ideas and supported reforms, and later related to the ideas of British conservative thought and the ideas of Burke, while arguing the attempts of the liberal majority to introduce norms that would diminish the rights of every minority, and against irredentism, which neutralised the politics of emotions by replacing it with a sense of duty guided by political reason.
It is less than a decade since the Irish government published the McAleese Report, which accepted the state’s role in facilitating abuse in Catholic Church-run Magdalen Laundries. At the time the ...then Taoiseach Enda Kenny tearfully apologizing for the state’s involvement, alongside promising redress for survivors. Although much has been achieved since that time, one aspect that has not been resolved is how we remember and memorialize that past. Of the 10 Magdalen Laundries that operated in postindependence Ireland, seven have been demolished or substantially redeveloped and three are currently in various degrees of dereliction. This article considers the potential for extant Magdalen Laundries to become sites of conscience. It will explore this potential through the lens of temporality, materiality, and spatiality and will ultimately argue for the need to explore scalar power relations if Magdalen Laundries are to truly reflect past injustices as well as become meaningful places in the contemporary.
This article aims to show the possibility of an academic approach to teaching the Catholic religion at school to the liturgical rites of the Catholic Church from a cultural perspective. Liturgical ...rites consist of numerous signs and symbols that refer to the human dimension, which seeks what is beautiful, true, and good. At all levels, one of the main objectives of Italian and European schools is to teach, educate, and raise responsible and upright citizens. Therefore, while contributing to the general formation of the human being at school, the teaching of Catholic religion also draws students closer, in cultural terms, to the great code, i.e., the liturgy of the Catholic Church. It is certainly a form of public and social communication. It is education in action. In this sense, for example, it could be a considerable and systematic cultural opportunity for Ukrainian students residing in Poland, a chance to learn the symbolic language of the Catholic liturgy in the perspective of reaching human maturity without fear of proselytism from the Catholic Church. This article in no way intends to diminish the intrinsic value of the liturgy in the life of the Church, understood as a celebration, proclamation, commemoration, promise, and moral call whose purpose is to transform or transfigure the person so that he/she is oriented toward the highest good, i.e., God, and able to live a life of mutual love
