Social media's capacity for users to generate, comment on, and forward content (including mass media messages) to other users has created new forms of mass interpersonal communication. These systems ...render observable processes underlying the formation of opinion climates. Five attributes of contemporary electronic opinion environments can alter the way users gauge, form, and express opinions on topics of public interest: the juxtaposition of mass media and user‐generated content, ideological homogeneity and heterogeneity of online networks, technical ease with which to express opinions, the reach of messages, and networked audiences. These attributes facilitate analysis of theoretical and empirical works from different scholarly traditions, suggesting lines of inquiry that can enrich the analysis of (public) opinion formation via current communication technologies.
We examined the effectiveness of a behavioral intervention in promoting cervical cancer screening among women living with HIV (WLWH) in Ghana.
A Mixed-methods study was conducted involving 83 WLWH, ...who were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n = 42) to receive voice-recorded messages based on the 3 R model (Reframing, Reprioritizing, and Reforming) or a control group (n = 41) to receive standard care. The primary outcomes were screening uptake and HPV prevalence. Other outcomes were the acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility of the intervention.
The intervention group had a 100% screening rate, and the control group had a 14.63% screening rate. The prevalent rate of high-risk (hr)-HPV genotypes among the women was 67.5% (95%C.I: 0.56–0.77). Over 48% of the participants had multiple hr-HPV genotypes, 64.29% had HPV16/18/45%, and 73.21% had HPV 31/33/45/52/58. Of the women (89.30%) who screened positive, 60% of them were diagnosed and treated for pre-cancer lesions. The intervention messages were acceptable (encourage proactive behavior), feasible (simple, easy to understand), and appropriate (helpful, informative). Facilitators and barriers to self-sampling were identified.
Combining the 3 R model with self-sampling increases cervical cancer screening among WLWH.
Healthcare professionals and policymakers can use this model to increase cervical cancer screening.
•Behavioral intervention that uses simplified health communication (3 R model) can increase cervical cancer screening.•HPV self-sampling coupled with the 3 R model can address cervical cancer screening access barriers in low-resource settings.•High-risk HPV genotypes are prevalent among women living with HIV.•WLWH are resilient and willing to take care of themselves if equipped with the right information and resources.
Semiotics is the science that studies sign systems such as languages. The Holy Quran is also considered a collection of linguistic signs and is examined from this perspective. Communication models ...are one of the important pillars of linguistic analysis. Jacobsen's communication model is one of the models in the field of semiotics. In this communication model, language maps are examined based on the main elements of communication. In this research, the word "Ayeh" in the Qur'an is analyzed in the examples of aphasic, psychic, miraculous, and linguistic signs in the form of the Jacobsen communication model, and its implications are extracted. The sender must use signs to communicate with the receiver. Signs also have meanings that are connected to each other in terms of communication. Examining the linguistic functions of the word "Ayeh" in various instances by using Jacobsen's communication model in semiotics proves common features such as having the occult aspect, reflection, and common referential function for cryptography
The present study investigated the relation between personality and ideas generation abilities. Ideas generation was assessed by the “egg task” in which participants had to generate as many solutions ...as possible to design ways to drop a hen’s egg from a height of 10 m so that it does not break. The 102 participants were also presented with the standard Process Communication Model (PCM) questionnaire. Results suggest that idea generation varied according to PCM Base Type of participants. Even if five out of six Base Types (Thinker, Persister, Harmonizer, Promoter and Rebel) presented similar fluency and categorical flexibility, Imaginer Base presented higher scores than other Base Types. These results, discussed according to cognitive control abilities, reinforce the view that PCM can highlight an individual’s creative performance considering interindividual differences.
The development of technology greatly affects the changes in communication made to a tourist destination. Communication in Islamic tourism is very important in determining the ease of communication. ...Global Muslim Travel (GMTI) is an Islamic tourism ranking where the ACES (Access, Communication, Environment, and Services) Model covers four main areas in measuring it, one of which is 20% communication. Communication criteria include: language skills at the destination based on the language spoken by tourists from the top 30 Muslim market trips out. This research uses qualitative methods, through the collection of literature reviews and documents obtained from several other sources such as journals, magazines, the Global Muslim Trevel Index (GMTI) or news that is useful for increasing understanding of the data obtained The halal tourism communication model can be concluded that a clear communication path with relevant authorities to react in real-time to any Health emergency that can carry out there important things: destination marketing; stakeholder awareness; communication proficiency that is able to synergize in developing Islamic communication. Halal tourism communication model that is able to provide Muslim visitor guides, stakeholder education, market outreach, tour guides, and quality digital marketing in communicating.
Creativity is a key competence of present and future-oriented employees of the business organisations, as well as a prerequisite for the success of the companies. By conducting a comprehensive ...literature review this article discusses on the concept of creativity in organisations, the role of communication in managing the expression of employee creativity. Furthermore, in response to the contemporary needs of organisations to comply with the legal requirements based on the European Union directives on the integration of sustainability into the activities of organisations, the article also examines the concept of sustainability and its intersection with the organisational culture of companies and communication. The communication model developed on the basis of the theoretical assumptions includes empowering, managing and engaging communication, through which the organisational culture promotes the creative expression of employees and their involvement in the implementation of sustainability practices in organisations. In addition, the integration of sustainability as a distinct theme and strategic direction into the organisational culture is also noted and embedded.
Different forms of communication have emerged throughout history and most of them have been linked to technological innovations. This fact has allowed the development, since the 1950s, of a powerful ...theoretical tradition specialized in the analysis of communication processes, which has resulted in the formulation of different communication theories. Recently, the emergence of Virtual Reality and 360-degree video has opened new analytical perspectives in relation to communication mediated by these technologies. Precisely, this article analyzes the narrative elements that are modified by the intervention of Virtual Reality and the peculiarities caused by the introduction of this technology in the communication process within a specific context such as journalism. This area of study has been selected because Virtual Reality and 360-degree video technologies are increasingly being used in the creation of journalistic content, which has resulted in the emergence of the so-called ‘immersive journalism’. Based on this analysis, the article proposes a new model for ‘immersive communication’ and a model for ‘the structure of immersive journalism’, which is totally novel in the journalistic context.
One of the main challenges of emergency management lies in communicating risks to the public. On some occasions, risk communicators might seek to increase awareness over emerging risks, while on ...others the aim might be to avoid escalation of public reactions. Social media accounts offer an opportunity to rapidly distribute critical information and in doing so to mitigate the impact of emergencies by influencing public reactions. This article draws on theories of risk and emergency communication in order to consider the impact of Twitter as a tool for communicating risks to the public. We analyse 10,020 Twitter messages posted by the official accounts of UK local government authorities (councils) in the context of two major emergencies: the heavy snow of December 2010 and the riots of August 2011. Twitter was used in a variety of ways to communicate and manage associated risks including messages to provide official updates, encourage protective behaviour, increase awareness and guide public attention to mitigating actions. We discuss the importance of social media as means of increasing confidence in emergency management institutions.
•We examine the impact of Twitter as a tool for communicating risks to the public.•Twitter can support different strategies of risk amplification.•We found both informational and inferential components in Twitter messages.•Twitter can help accelerate transitions between emergency management stages.•Twitter can be useful to manage expectations over emergency resources.
Objective To explore the application effect of the online and offline mixed teaching mode in nursing practice teaching based on the Source Message Channel Receiver (SMCR) communication model. Methods ...By using the convenience sampling method, 15 nursing students who practiced their internship in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Beijing Friendship Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University for 4 weeks, from 1 April 2022 to 31 December 2023, were selected as the experimental group.
