This article explores how novice researchers develop a scholarly identity as they cross geographic, cultural, institutional, identity, and methodological borders throughout their studies, ...experiencing insider, outsider, and in-betweener positions. It hypothesizes that researchers become more culturally proficient through their fieldwork and self-study. The autoethnographic narratives address the social justice issues encountered by two early career researchers who increased their cultural proficiency and self-awareness as they moved across multiple cultural contexts. By shifting back and forth between insider, outsider, and in-betweener, the researchers became more culturally proficient, developed their voices as researchers, and practiced inclusivity by amplifying marginalized voices. Their self-reflective analysis of autoethnographic writing speaks to early career and graduate qualitative researchers who must recognize their positionality and their placement on the cultural proficiency continuum to be effective scholars in cross-cultural research.

Antes dela, prevaleceu um conceito colonial, eurocêntrico e hegemônico de cultura, que subalternizava negros e índios e suas manifestações culturais. A nova Constituição expressa um compromisso com a igualdade, o multiculturalismo e a inclusão. Perguntase: qual é o resultado do encontro das novas normas e paradigmas com as antigas hierarquias sociais e suas estruturas?
Este artículo se deriva de un estudio en dos municipios de la Costa Caribe norte de Nicaragua, que interactúa de manera crítica con la agenda de investigación británica, dominante en este momento. ...Mediante un stakeholder analysis, hemos intentado mapear el poder cultural en esta parte de Nicaragua en un contexto de racismo persistente, desigualdad de género, pobreza, destrucción ambiental y creciente autoritarismo político mediante entrevistas, grupos focales y talleres con actores relevantes. La investigación fue realizada por un grupo de académicos, profesionales de una organización no gubernamental (ONG) y activistas de la sociedad civil que viven en la costa o que tienen una participación política y profesional a largo plazo, en la región. Proporciona un conjunto de recomendaciones para los organismos gubernamentales y las organizaciones de la sociedad civil, con potencial de aumentar el impacto positivo de nuestros proyectos de investigación y desarrollo en la región.

This article is an analysis of the theory of cultural identity by Zheng Xiaoyun, a distinguished Chinese philosopher. His theory of cultural identity presented here gives a new perspective to the ...study of cultural identity. Zheng Xiaoyun's work The Theory of Cultural Identity has won recognition with Chinese academia and has been widely cited there, yet it is little known abroad, Russian academic thought included. Zheng Xiaoyun investigates the relations between cultural and national identities, stating that culture revolves around cultural identity. He comes to the conclusion that cultural and national identities are determined by the cultural development of individuals and society in general (horizontal determination) as well as by the global identity coming into being (vertical determination). His novel ideas and insights add to the academic discussion of the problems of identity. The comparison of Zheng Xiaoyun’s ideas and the theories of Russian and foreign researchers shows notable distinctions: western authors tend to look into psychological aspects of identity, Russian research focuses on its cultural dimension, whereas in China maintaining one’s cultural identity in a changing world is the key problem of identity research. In his works Zheng Xiaoyun studies the functionilg of cultural identity in an alias language environment and explores how strong national identity and values determine the life of a group. Key topics in Chinese identity research today, such as regional identity and Asian identity, call for an in-depth analysis of national and cultural identity and tap from the works of Zheng Xiaoyun. The comparative analysis has proved that his ideas on determining the foundations, mechanisms and types of cultural identity corresponds with other academic traditions. However, Zheng Xiaoyun’s study outlined in this article brings about novel structural approaches to the analysis of the dynamics of identity creation. Following on from the principles of historicity and objectivity, the philosopher develops the basic prerequisites for combining structural and cognitive approaches in studies of modern national and global identities.

The Jewish diaspora throughout history is considered as most savage exile creating numerous Jewish communities in different countries. Bene Israel is the community of Jews in India. The experience of displacement leads to cultural ambivalence, a feeling of homelessness, and culinary nostalgia. Esther David’s Book of Rachel is a story of Bane Israel woman Rachel, who fights to preserve the heritage and culture of bene Israel Jews after most of the members of the community migrated to Israel. Food in the novel acts as a cultural code to bring back the community together. The research paper explores how food, consumption, and recipes in the novel recreate the Jewish identity, an essential reconnect with home through culinary memories.
