In order to integrate existing decontamination equipment simulators of different architectures into a collaborative simulation system and improve their scalability and real-time performance, a High ...Level Architecture (HLA) and Object-oriented Graphics Rendering Engine (OGRE) based simulation training system is established. A data collector and RTI adaptor are introduced to realize communication among physical equipment, OGRE simulation programs and HLA/RTI. Then design of Federation Object Model is discussed as well as 3D scene reconstruction. The practical application shows that the system meets requirements such as high real-time and scalability, and has some value for constructing large-scale simulation training systems.
The scalable emergency system is intended to cover the full scale of possible at-sea incidents from the routine to the rare; from the detection and decontamination of a single piece of equipment ...before it is loaded on a vessel, to the response, rescue, containment and rehabilitation of a vessel in open waters. The system will be able to safely and quickly decontaminate cargo and personnel, as well as entire vessels at sea and in port. This report finalizes the top level design of the four (4) primary concepts selected for the program.
Given success with a demonstration, there is an opportunity for a full-scale e-barrier that could replace an existing high-cost pump-and-treat system. In summary, data presented in this report ...describes substantive progress in demonstrating a new technology for managing contaminated groundwater at DoD facilities. At present, it is not clear that either cost or efficacy results will drive near-term widespread use of the technology for chlorinated ethenes. On the other hand, the technology holds promise for energetic compounds in groundwater. Our hope is that success with energetic compounds will lead to further refinement and broad use of the technology. The concept of an e-barrier is that a panel of closely spaced permeable electrodes is installed in a trench that intercepts a plume of contaminated groundwater. Application of an electrical potential to the electrodes imposes oxidizing conditions at the positive electrode and reducing conditions at the negative electrode. Using electrodes to deliver and recover electrons, thermodynamic conditions are shifted to drive transformation of target compounds to nontoxic products.

In 1987, a serious radiological accident occurred in Goiania, Brazil. Four inhabitants died and about 250 persons were internally or externally contaminted with 137Cs released from a removed and then ...broken source vessel. In this report, outline of the accident and, activities on surveillance of contamination and works for decontamination are described.
