This paper sketches out how contemporary accounts in dance dramaturgy, such as the work of Maaike Bleeker, André Lepecki, Bojana Bauer and Bojana Kunst evoke the diagrammatic, either as a practice or ...as a metaphor. I argue that the diagrammatic can function as a constructive framework that can address the (sometimes) problematic presence of the dance dramaturg and move beyond an understanding of the dramaturg's role as someone that always exists between theory and practice. I draw on the work of Sybille Krämer, Valeria Giardino, Elizabeth de Freitas and Nathalie Sinclair to present the epistemological and embodied qualities of the diagrammatic and indicate points of convergence with dramaturgical practices. Contemporary dramaturgical practices propose an alternative mode of thinking that requires a process of becoming aware, of mapping and of being implicated in the complex networks of actions, agents and materials that emerge during the creative process. Through the filter of the diagrammatic, dramaturgical practice and its epistemological implications are discussed in connection to the use of language, conceptual knowledge and the role of embodiment.
By reviewing the training procedures and the aesthetic and poetic discussions present in the playwriting workshops led by Luís Alberto de Abreu in the 1990s, this text situates Abreu's practices as a ...workshop leader and reflects upon their potential legacy for current playwriting workshops. ...it translates into headnotedramatic procedures, in the sense of embracing and utilizing the dramatic form as a context within an Aristotelian approach, yet introducing micro-structures within it (related to character, narrative, modes of expression, scenic spatiality, etc.) that do not align with either a dramaturgy understood as bourgeois modern drama or the so-called post-dramatic procedures, precisely because these micro-structures origin in a poetics of archetypal structures.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted labor markets around the world. Workers and corporations scrambled to adjust their workstyles to a new normal, by avoiding the commute and working remotely from ...their homes or elsewhere. Japan is a country that stood out for its inability to adjust to the remote work imperative. Comparative statistics show that Japan reported the lowest number of people engaged in remote work among the OECD countries, as well as the lowest percentage of corporations that offered remote work policies. In this article, I investigate why telework in Japan is difficult. The lack of telework in Japan may seem paradoxical, given the country’s reputation for being technologically advanced. I argue that it is not the technological infrastructure that is lacking in the Japanese workplace, but distinct features of work embedded in Japanese culture and its collectivist roots that prevent the effective implementation of telework. I rely on recently published data from various sources, and apply key sociological theories such as implicit contracts, gift exchange, dramaturgy, and impression management to substantiate my main arguments. The paper concludes by drawing on implications for the future of work in Japan.
The essay covers the great Florentine representations of XVIth and XVIIth century, finding a common denominator (beyond the self-celebratory value) in the ‘virtuosity’ of the machinery, which soon ...exceeds the textual dramaturgy. This one, in fact, serves a peculiar ‘dramaturgy of the machines’, which become mythopoetic, bending the poetic invention to their own needs. Through a precise and detailed series of comparisons between the various episodes, here the history of the Medici’s spectacle is examined following a possible craft and engineering interpretation, precisely showing how the reutilization of the technological heritage conditioned the entirety of the spectacle.

Being an Atheist is always an unpopular choice in the middle of high religious context society. The stigma and pressure from religious groups forced Atheists in Indonesia to hide their identity in ...public generally and when taking care of the affairs of state administration. This research utilized Communication Privacy Management and Dramaturgy Theory alongside the phenomenology perspective to reveal how Atheists in Indonesia live their "beliefs" in their not-so-friendly environment. The results showed that they generally presented themselves as religious in front of their family by pretending to practice religious rituals, contributing to their special personal branding for the families. Meanwhile, in other social environments, such as friendship, they could be freer to present themselves as they were, although they still had to manage private information about their Atheist identity.
This study is an autoethnography conducted by the author, a young junior high school science teacher in Japan. The focus of the study is the author’s personal experiences with “performances” ...(Goffman, 1959a=1974), which are known as “furi” in Japanese, in the context of school science in Japan. In this autoethnography, the author shares his experiences of adopting various roles during science classes, such as acting like a child or a scientist, and how he expresses himself as a science teacher outside of the science classroom. Through these narratives, the author delves into the nature, purpose, and meanings of the science teacher’s “furi”. The study concludes by highlighting that the purpose of these “furi” extends beyond achieving the goals of science education; they also serve to manage impressions of the science teacher, science as a subject, science, scientists, and even the science teachers themselves.
