IDEALUS (Innovation and Development through Entrepreneurial Activities for Learning University Students) was a project organized through the program Entrepreneurial University and was sponsored by ...Romanian-American Foundation. IDEALUS was designed to implement an Entrepreneurial Program and a Psychological program for students from non-economic faculties. The main objective of the project was the development of soft skills, meaning a set of interpersonal attributes needed for success in the professional field. A sample of 50 students enrolled in the project was assessed with a survey, put together by the authors, on the following directions: communication skills, creativity, self-confidence, social skills, assertiveness, leadership, negotiation and critical thinking. The survey was based on psychological consecrated tests, like BASC-2 (Behavior Assessment System for Children), ABCD-M (Big Five Questionnaire) and Cognitrom Assessment System and it was applied before and after the implementation of the activities in the project. The hypotheses we tested presumed the existence of significant differences between the two assessments regarding the above listed soft skills. Results show a statistically significant improvement only in creativity and leadership, while the other variables, although increased in value, showed no significant differences between the two assessments. Results are discussed in the end in the context of the benefits of the implementation of entrepreneurial activities for student’s personal and professional development.
Speaking is rated as the most fearful task among language learners. Since oral presentation is one of the most vital tasks for second language learners, most learners experience oral presentation ...apprehension during their learning life, regardless of whether this is encountered face-to-face or through online distance learning (ODL). The study aims to investigate whether there are any significant relationships concerning the state and traits of apprehension regarding oral presentations across genders and faculty. The purposive sampling method was utilized for this study, which consisted of 92 undergraduates taking an oral presentation skills course. The data collected were analyzed using correlation analysis (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, IBM Corp. Version 24.0. Armonk, NY, USA). The analysis revealed that gender shows a significant relationship with the state of apprehension; meanwhile, faculty has no relationship with apprehension. For future research, this study provides insights for educators and learners on how to deliver an engaging oral presentation successfully.
Aim
University start‐ups have gained significant popularity as a means of translating knowledge and research into practical applications. However, there is a lack of understanding regarding the ...experiences and perspectives of nursing faculties engaged in start‐up ventures. The objective of this study was to explore valuable insights into the barriers and facilitators within this context for promoting success, generating entrepreneurial attitudes, as well as enhancing the sustainability of nursing faculty‐led start‐ups.
Design
We employed a content analysis methodology to capture the real‐life experiences of nursing faculties involved in university start‐ups. This approach is an effective way to gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
Methods
Data were collected using semi‐structured interviews. Graneheim and Lundman's step was used for analysis and to identify recurring patterns and themes within the collected data. Sampling was done purposefully, with convenience and snowball techniques until data saturation. The MAXQDA version 10 software was utilised to easily analyse, code and present data.
Results
The analysis revealed four major themes encompassed: motivational factors, personal attributes, limited entry support and barriers to scaling. These themes shed light on factors, support systems, challenges faced during growth as well as personal characteristics highlighted by the participants. Our study highlighted the factors influencing entrepreneurship in nursing faculties. Addressing the challenges of this study requires enhancing support systems and fostering personal development for entrepreneurial success in healthcare innovation. Policymakers can promote university education to expand the entrepreneurship process using more facilities and make more services accessible.
Introduction: Doctors have multiple roles to play in the society. The emotional intelligence (EI) of medical college teachers plays a decisive role on the outcome of medical students. Teachers with ...good EI will create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active encouragement, and motivation to learn among students. Objectives: The objective of the study is to assess the level of EI and the influence of sociodemographic variables on it among teaching faculties of a medical college. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using self-report EI questionnaire scale. The data were analyzed and expressed in percentages and proportions. Mean, standard deviation, and statistical significance were calculated, wherever necessary. Results: More than half of the teaching faculty showed average EI (66.67%) and 8.33% had poor EI. The social skills of teaching faculty showed positive correlation and statistical significance with teaching experience. Conclusion: There is a need to take appropriate steps to improve the EI of teaching faculties by the institutions as it has an impact on the outcome of learner doctors.
This study aimed to assess the degree of openness to change among the faculties of educational sciences in Jordanian universities and its correlation with academic freedom, as perceived by faculty ...members. Additionally, it sought to identify whether there were statistically significant differences in the levels of openness to change and academic freedom based on variables such as gender, academic rank, university, and country of graduation. The study employed a descriptive correlational approach, involving 407 faculty members from the faculties of educational sciences in Jordanian universities during the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022. The study found a moderate level of openness to change and academic freedom, with a strong correlation between the two. No significant gender-based differences were identified, but Arab university graduates displayed higher levels. Hashemite University professors and associate professors emphasized these aspects more than counterparts at other Jordanian universities and different academic ranks. The results highlight the need for increased societal awareness, particularly within the educational community, about the importance of various freedoms. Additionally, the study recommends heightened awareness of the role of unions and institutions for Jordanian university faculty members, aiming to improve their scientific and social conditions.
The Covid-19 pandemic has fully opened the debate on the complexity of the problem, which goes far beyond medical and epidemiological analyzes and proposals, although these are key to the decisions ...of leaders in the decisive sphere. Critical situations always force us to look for new methods. This is also indicated by paradigmatic changes in the overall functioning and position of medical faculties in Slovakia and abroad (1,2,3). The adaptation of the faculty administration at the time of this crisis is admirable in many respects and essential for the long-term societal struggle with the pandemic. (Ref. 3). Depression is one of the common mental disorders occurring frequently in the community. The study aimed to find out the prevalence and correlates of depression among faculties of academic ...institutions in Pokhara Metropolitan, Kaski, Nepal.
A cross-sectional study was conducted among 416 faculties selected from six academic institutions of Pokhara Metropolitan. A self-administered structured questionnaire method was applied to assess depression and explanatory variables among respondents. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was used to measure depression. The BDI score was classified into normal, mild, moderate and severe depression using the standard classification; and the depression levels were dichotomized into "absent" and "present". Descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were computed. Level of significance was set at 5%.
Of the total, 21.6% of respondents had depression including 6.7% moderate and 2.9% severe type depression. The likelihood of reporting depression was significantly higher among those who had physical health problems (AOR, 2.88; 95% CI, 1.16-7.13), consumed vegetables less than 2 times a day (AOR, 2.34; 95% CI, 1.07-5.08), had limited access to teaching aids in workplace (AOR, 2.00; 95% CI 1.19-3.33), had higher job stress and higher COVID-19 fear. Depression did not differ by the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents and type of institution.
Improving physical health conditions, promoting vegetable consumption, ensuring access to basic facilities, and creating an enabling environment at workplace may help to address depression among faculties. Regular screening programs may help for timely identification and management of the cases.
