This paper investigates the pinning control for the disturbance decoupling problem (DDP) of Boolean networks (BNs) with disturbances. First, the solvability of DDP in BCNs is defined. Then, ...rank-conditions-based pinning control is proposed. Moreover, rank-conditions-based pinning state feedback controllers are designed for the DDP of BNs and the range of controllers' number is obtained. In addition, rank-conditions-based pinning output feedback controllers for the DDP of BNs are also discussed. An example is given to show the effectiveness of the obtained results.
This paper investigates the problem of output feedback control for discrete-time systems with two quantized signals in measurement output and control input. Since the measurement output and control ...input are quantized by general quantizers before they are passed to the controller and the system, the closed-loop system will include the quantization error terms, which might lead to that the performance of the closed-loop system is not guaranteed. For this purpose, this paper proposes a novel quantized output control strategy such that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable or satisfies the prescribed H ∞ performance. The corresponding design conditions for the output feedback controllers and the quantizers' dynamic parameters are presented in terms of solutions to a set of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, a simulation example is given to prove the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

Feedback control of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson's disease has great potential to improve efficacy, reduce side effects, and decrease the cost of treatment. In this, the timing and ...intensity of stimulation are titrated according to biomarkers that capture current clinical state. Stimulation may be at standard high frequency or intelligently patterned to directly modify specific pathological rhythms. The search for and validation of appropriate feedback signals are therefore crucial. Signals recorded from the DBS electrode currently appear to be the most promising source of feedback. In particular, beta-frequency band oscillations in the local field potential recorded at the stimulation target may capture variation in bradykinesia and rigidity across patients, but this remains to be confirmed within patients. Biomarkers that reliably reflect other impairments, such as tremor, also need to be established. Finally, whether brain signals are causally important needs to be established before stimulation can be specifically patterned rather than delivered at empirically defined high frequency.
The synchronization problem of complex dynamical networks with impulsive effects has been extensively addressed. However, great challenges arise when applying the existing synchronization criteria to ...networks with uncertain impulses. In this article, we investigate the adaptive synchronization problem of complex networks with uncertain impulses. First, the adaptive control gain is proved to be bounded for both synchronizing and desynchronizing impulses. Then, adaptive synchronization criteria for impulsive networks are derived from the boundedness of the control gain. Finally, a numerical example is provided to validate the proposed criteria.
This paper analyzes the small-signal impedance of three-phase grid-tied inverters with feedback control and phase-locked loop (PLL) in the synchronous reference (d-q) frame. The result unveils an ...interesting and important feature of three-phase grid-tied inverters - namely, that its q-q channel impedance behaves as a negative incremental resistor. Moreover, this paper shows that this behavior is a consequence of grid synchronization, where the bandwidth of the PLL determines the frequency range of the resistor behavior, and the power rating of the inverter determines the magnitude of the resistor. Advanced PLL, current, and power control strategies do not change this feature. An example shows that under weak grid conditions, a change of the PLL bandwidth could lead the inverter system to unstable conditions as a result of this behavior. Harmonic resonance and instability issues can be analyzed using the proposed impedance model. Simulation and experimental measurements verify the analysis.
We study the thermodynamic properties induced by non-reciprocal interactions between stochastic degrees of freedom in time- and space-continuous systems. We show that, under fairly general ...conditions, non-reciprocal coupling alone implies a steady energy flow through the system, i.e., non-equilibrium. Projecting out the non-reciprocally coupled degrees of freedom renders non-Markovian, one-variable Langevin descriptions with complex types of memory, for which we find a generalized second law involving information flow. We demonstrate that non-reciprocal linear interactions can be used to engineer non-monotonic memory, which is typical for, e.g., time-delayed feedback control, and is automatically accompanied with a nonzero information flow through the system. Furthermore, already a single non-reciprocally coupled degree of freedom can extract energy from a single heat bath (at isothermal conditions), and can thus be viewed as a minimal version of a time-continuous, autonomous 'Maxwell demon'. We also show that for appropriate parameter settings, the non-reciprocal system has characteristic features of active matter, such as a positive energy input on the level of the fluctuating trajectories without global particle transport.
In this paper, a class of discrete-time singularly perturbed switched systems <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">\left ({\text {SPSSs}}\right) </tex-math></inline-formula> with persistent ...dwell-time <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">\left ({\text {PDT}}\right) </tex-math></inline-formula> switching law is firstly proposed. Using the slow-state feedback control method, sufficient conditions to ensure the global uniform exponential stability of the closed-loop PDT SPSSs are derived. Based on the aforementioned conditions, the analyses of the extended dissipative performance of the closed-loop PDT SPSSs and a preferable decoupling method deriving the mode-dependent controller gains are given for the first time. Finally, the potential practicability of the method is verified by a purely numerical example and a tunnel diode circuit model, and a convex optimization method calculating the upper bound of the singular perturbation parameter is provided.
This paper addresses the event-triggered dynamic output feedback control for switched linear systems with frequent asynchronism. Different from existing work, which limits at most once switching ...during an interevent interval, we adopt the average dwell time approach without limiting the minimum dwell time of each subsystem, and thus frequent switching is allowed to happen in an interevent interval. Since the difficulty in acquiring the full information of system states, the dynamic output feedback controller is taken into account to stabilize the switched system. By employing a controller-mode-dependent Lyapunov functional, stability criterion is proposed for the resulting closed-loop system, based on which the dynamic output feedback controller together with the mode-dependent event-triggered mechanism is codesigned. Besides, the existence of the lower bound on interevent intervals is attentively discussed, which gets rid of the Zeno behavior. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by numerical simulations.
This brief is devoted to the issues of performance supervised fault detection (FD) for two types of feedback control systems by adopting the novel performance residual as the process evaluator. ...Specifically, for a class of uncertain state feedback control systems, the boundaries of the performance residual caused by the model uncertainties are analyzed theoretically, then the randomized algorithm is exploited to construct the threshold, aiming at avoiding the worst-case handling and improving the FD performance. The second part considers the general dynamic output feedback control systems with external reference signals. For the FD purpose, the performance residual is derived based on the backward computation, and the state variables of the closed-loop system are constructed by the accessible input, output, and reference signals to release the strict requirements for full state measurements. Finally, the effectiveness of the developed FD approaches is demonstrated on the model of a DC motor system.
