My article presents the problem of al (a, ai, ale) in the field of Romanian as a foreign language. The first part of the study is an exposure of the interpretation of possessives, interpretations ...depending on which the morphological statute of al varies: possessive genitive mark, semi-independent possessive or formative pronoun. The consequences of the morphological interpretations of al can also be seen in the RFL domain. Therefore, the second part of the present article pursues the acquisition of the semi-independent possessive pronoun al by the foreign students depending on the several different interpretations found in the Romanian language textbooks for foreigners.
It is widely considered that Polish does not possess the Present Perfect, and that it represents a challenge to those teaching Polish learners of English. From a teaching perspective, the question ...arises of what a Polish learner of English perceives when they read/hear a Present Perfect sentence. The research presented here attempts to answer that question, but with a focus on the universal Present Perfect. A questionnaire was developed to measure the perception of the English universal present perfect’s two defining features: its incompleteness and its continuability. The questionnaire was completed by Polish learners of English and a group of British native speakers. The hypotheses were: 1. Incompleteness/continuability would be perceived in the universal present perfect, 2. that lower proficiency learners would perceive incompleteness/continuability at a lower rate and perception would increase with proficiency, and 3. British native speakers would have the highest level of perception. The results show that the incompleteness/continuability of the universal present perfect are perceived. While perception decreases with lower proficiency learners, British native speakers did not have the highest levels of perception. The next step is to develop a pedagogy which focuses on perception-based teaching and carry out an experiment to analyse its efficacy.
The changed nature of English into that of a global language means that contemporary learners of English are more likely to acquire the language for the purposes of a lingua franca than to ...communicate exclusively with native speakers. It is therefore considered that learning the language through traditional native-speaker models does not serve them well, nor does it meet their needs. The models of 1) native speaker, 2) nativised and 3)English as a lingua franca (ELF), originally presented by Kirkpatrick (2006), are re-examined with their attributes and drawbacks in this modern context. An analysis of responses to the question ‘Which model of English should we teach?’ was carried out on two Reddit (reddit.com) discussion groups which included teachers and learners. These responses from actors in the field of English language teaching (ELT) were first categorised and then compared with academic opinions. The comparisons showed that both groups were generally in agreement with regard to an appropriate model and pedagogy. No single model was advocated; rather, the prominent opinions supported a postmethod approach that utilised the existing ELT framework of a stable Standard English that is codified, has well-established institutions, etc. However, this model should be one that accommodates other varieties of English as well as accepts second language (L2 to L2) communications as legitimate in their own right and utilises a more bespoke, context-based pedagogy.
This contribution aims to verify the hypothesis of the permanence of circulating methodology in teaching French in the Algerian context, an approach out of step with the official instructions which ...require to implement the principals of the competency base approach since 2003, an approach that struggles to reduce the “in-between” or “gap” of the scene of teaching/learning French as we will see from analysis of a corpus. If this hypothesis is validated, then will be recalled the need to resort to a real implementation of the fundamental principles of the communicative better to be able to open a methodological compromise which implies that the institution and the teachers take a step towards each other and not that one yields to other. The methodological compromise would give rise to a realistic methodology which would make it possible to create a creative space in the Algerian context.
Foreign language education is deeply affected by globalization, destabilizing some of the central ideas that have helped form national languages, and, by contrast, foreign languages. This article ...traces the economic origins of contemporary globalization and the deep communication effects that arise. Migration of peoples, instantaneous communication technologies, and new modes of imagining relationships in the context of vast flows of population, ideas, goods, and communication mean that teachers of different languages need to make multilingual and multicultural realities, rather than national and foreign ones, central notions in curriculum, teaching, and language choice. Professional dialogue between teachers of English, traditional foreign languages, heritage/community languages, and other categories of language interest are required to foster a new overall understanding of the enterprise of language education, suited to the altered world context of contemporary globalization.

The focus of the article is on the questions and issues that have arisen in research on communication in second language contexts, as well as possibilities of addressing them that open up when one ...moves to the understanding of scientific inquiry as “a form of anti-disciplinary or transgressive knowledge, as a way of thinking and doing that is always problematizing” (Pennycook 2007: 37).The article aims to point to some issues in research on communication in a FL classroom where a transdisciplinary approach might prove useful or even necessary to address them. An expanded analysis of a classroom discussion carried out within Hymes’ model that includes different modes and forms of communication as well as aspects of on-goingly changing contexts should illustrate the benefits of applying a transdisciplinary approach in research on communication in a second language classroom.

Though moral intuitions and choices seem fundamental to our core being, there is surprising new evidence that people resolve moral dilemmas differently when they consider them in a foreign language ...(Cipolletti et al., 2016; Costa et al., 2014a; Geipel et al., 2015): People are more willing to sacrifice 1 person to save 5 when they use a foreign language compared with when they use their native tongue. Our findings show that the phenomenon is robust across various contexts and that multiple factors affect it, such as the severity of the negative consequences associated with saving the larger group. This has also allowed us to better describe the phenomenon and investigate potential explanations. Together, our results suggest that the foreign language effect is most likely attributable to an increase in psychological distance and a reduction in emotional response.
