Announcer Posters of Hague indictee Gen Ante Gotovina appeared in the centre of Karlovac this morning. It is not known who put up the posters of the fugitive general which say `Hero', although this ...type of action has been supported by the Unanimously for Change Listom za promjene coalition.
The paper concludes that the latest information on Ante Gotovina's escape confirms the contention of the chief prosecutor of the Hague tribunal, Carla Del Ponte, that the former government of Prime ...Minister Ivica Racan enabled the indicted Croatian general to escape, although it the information disproves earlier speculation that Gotovina escaped from Croatia with a fake US or French passport.
Reporter Josip Saric The fake passport reportedly comes from a package of almost 3,000 Croatian passports that mysteriously disappeared from the Croatian consulate in Mostar in 1999. Since then some ...of these passports have ended up in the possession of some Russian mafiosi and prime suspect in assassination of former Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic Milorad Lukovic Legija. Ante Gotovina received his in Zagreb under a false name. The other question is the repeated leaking of classified information to the media, which only erodes the state services' credibility and does little to convince the Hague prosecution that the search for Gotovina is meticulous and serious. The Hague is not commenting but is unofficially saying that they have warned Zagreb on many occasions about this passport and Gotovina's helpers. This discovery is nothing new to them and it will certainly not change their position.
