It is believed that the adoption of Interorganizational systems (IOS) can enable organization to use the information processing capabilities to reduce interorganizational coordination costs and ...improve performance. However, the past researches have shown mixed results about the impact of IOS on coordination costs. While drawing on transaction cost analysis and resource-dependence theory, this paper suggests that analyzing the relationship between IOS use and coordination costs should consider different levels of asset specificity and interdependence of participating organizations. This article presents an analyzing method and suggests that, when asset specificity or interdependence is high, IOS use can reduce coordination costs for monitoring or cooperative purpose. While under a condition of low asset specificity or low interdependence, the association between IOS use and coordination costs reducing is negative.
Nowadays, services have become the major growth-driver of many economies. In fact, about 75% of GDP of developed countries comes from the service sector so that the global economy is dominated by ...this sector. A thorough understanding as well as innovative approaches, such as new methods, models and frameworks for a network of services systems is needed in order to succeed in the global economy. For this reason, this paper focuses on a conceptual framework for modelling service value creation networks. Firstly, it introduces the necessity for the conceptual framework. Secondly, it continues with literature review of service economy, service science, service systems and services. Thirdly, it presents the approach for modelling service value creation networks, which are defined as networks of service systems. Fourthly, the conceptual framework is proposed, including three levels: Service system level, Service value chain level, and Service value creation network level. Fifthly, an example about an offshore call centre as a service value creation network is illustrated. Finally, the paper ends with a conclusion, future directions and perspectives.
Significance of inter-organizational information systems (IOSs) in inter-organizational relationship (IOR) has been highlighted recently. IOSs are not only technical solutions to enhance ...communication across organizations, but they are also supporters and enablers of cooperation as well as symbols of formal IORs. The success or failure of these systems can have severe effects on cooperative relationships. In this conceptual-analytical research based on existing literature the role of different factors influencing to success of IOSs are considered. When considering implementing an IOS the role of these factors should be asserted to be able to enhance cooperation in IORs on one hand and successfully implement IOSs on the other hand.
