The so-called rose March in Oslo two days after 22 July 2011 showed that emotions played a crucial role in the ritual response to the terrorist attacks. The rose March seems to have captured and ...expressed the emotional climate that dominated the days after the attacks in Norway - it reflected contemporary national concerns. Both the planned and unplanned ritual actions in the rose March evoked and stated collective emotions expressed through national and political symbolic institutions and objects. These emotions triggered by the March and expressed in the March are important as they shape identity and community.
Lumu, a private act of mourning ritual, grew into a cultural phenomenon with considerable appeal in the seventeenth century. The era saw a range of activities that placed lumu at the center of the ...neo-Confucian call for moral cultivation, and lumu was a focal point of acting out Confucian virtue. This paper details the cases that centered on three preeminent men-Feng Shaoxu, Sun Qifeng, and Fang Yizhi. It demonstrates that, whether by promoting it through public lectures, staging ceremonies by the hut, enacting it collectively and cross-generationally in the family, or commemorating it with poetry, essay, and painting, the staunch Confucian elite in the seventeenth century identified a common cause for action. Lumu was not just an act of mourning or filial piety; it was perceived as a preferable tool for perfecting moral cultivation and for exhibiting the moral strength of an individual or a family at a time of perceived moral decline. The extreme challenge represented by a relentless routine lay at the very center of its appeal-lumu projected the image of an ultra-filial son in a way that other filial deeds did not.

The Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore declared a week of national mourning after the country’s first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, passed away on 23 March 2015. Approximately one-fifth of the ...country’s population visited at least one mourning site during the week. The state used this time and space to establish and crystallize a desired memory of Lee. A national narrative of mourning was constructed by providing both physical and emotional venues such as community tribute sites, the parliament site where the body lay in state and online platforms such as the Facebook page ‘Remembering LKY’. Through interruption, repetition, and formality, this structure enacted, guided, and amplified the expression of specific emotions from the participants. An over-arching atmosphere of mourning was created in that week, allowing the whole nation to participate in the guided remembering of Lee.
City is the most important habitat for the man and the greatest cradle of civilization. Due to this fact, studying this phenomenon is of paramount importance. The problem today is that in the ...contemporary society many of Islamic traditions have been neglected. The impact of religious values on the construction of city spaces is of even greater importance. Cities are created according to ideologies and worldviews and the most sublime example of space occupation is Islamic beliefs and values. The mosque in an Islamic city, for instance, has been a site of political, nonmilitary, legal and economic gatherings. Nowadays, some religious rituals and ceremonies are held in spaces other than mosques and due to the paucity of favorable and appropriate space in the cities, streets and roads are occupied and traffic problems created. 200 students participated in this study and a close-ended questionnaire with a rating scale of 5 was used to gather data. In this article I have tried to emphasize the necessity of holding religious rituals out of mosque space, and suggest and provide the procedures needed for the definition and formation of appropriate spaces for the aforementioned rituals and ceremonies.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, measures were enforced that constrained people's ability to engage in conventional funeral and mourning rituals, which in general serve as vital mechanisms for coping with ...the experience of loss. This study aimed to investigate how these limitations affected early grief symptoms and the influence of alternative mourning rituals (paying tribute on social media, lighting candles in memory of the deceased, and using objects of the deceased) on moderating the relationship between individuals' perception of these limitations (such as being unable to perform the present body ceremony or fulfill the funeral wishes of the deceased) and the intensity of the grief symptoms. The study involved 227 participants, aged between 18 and 77 years, who had experienced the loss of a loved one during the pandemic. Results demonstrated that higher levels of perceived limitation in funeral ceremonies are associated with greater intensity of grief responses. Paying tribute on social media and lighting candles in memory of the deceased person moderated the relationship between the perception of limitation in fulfilling the deceased’s wishes in relation to the funeral ceremonies and the intensity of the grief responses. Using objects moderates the relationship between the perception of limitation in performing a present body ceremony and the intensity of the grief responses. Results underline the relevance of psychological flexibility, in particular concerning alternative morning rituals, that can be used as a way of buffering the impact of the perception of limitation in funeral ceremonies on the intensity of grief responses. This study offers a distinctive insight into bereavement during the pandemic, highlighting the role of flexibility in morning rituals in mitigating the deleterious effect of ritual restrictions on bereavement outcomes.
