Large quantities of oily wastewaters are produced globally from oil extraction and refining industries containing low concentrations of dissolved and finely emulsified oils. These waters are difficult to treat within a small footprint as often necessary, especially on offshore sites, and often contain high salinity making many treatment methods ineffective. In this study the use of graphene oxide (GO) as an adsorbent is investigated using diesel as a representative oil. GO demonstrated a high adsorption capacity of 1335 mg/g according to the Freundlich isotherm and based on theoretical surface area was likely due to limited multi-layer adsorption. Increasing salinity to 1% increased adsorption capacity by 75%, remaining constant thereafter, confirming the suitability for the material for saline produced water remediation. Adsorption was extremely rapid, reaching more than 90% of the equilibrium capacity within 4 min, and was represented best by a pseudo-second order kinetic model. Fixed bed column tests confirmed the ability for excellent removal capacities under a short contact time and good regeneration, indicating the potential of GO for industrial oil-water emulsion separation applications. Based on careful analysis of isotherm and kinetic data, in conjunction with theoretical considerations, a rapid multi-layer physisorption mechanism, influenced by GO agglomeration, is proposed.
T cell receptor gamma locus antisense RNA 1 (TRG-AS1) has been reported to involve in the progression of glioblastoma, however the role and its underlying molecular mechanism in hepatocellular ...carcinoma (HCC) remain unknown.
Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was applied to detect TRG-AS1 expression in HCC cells. Besides, the proliferation abilities of HCC cells were assessed by colony formation and EdU assays. The migratory and invasive abilities of HCC cells were examined by transwell assays. Imunofluorescence staining (IF) was used to analyze the epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMT). The interaction among TRG-AS1, miR-4500 and BTB domain and CNC homolog 1 (BACH1) were proofed by means of RIP and RNA pull down and luciferase reporter assays.
TRG-AS1 was conspicuously overexpressed in HCC cells. TRG-AS1 silencing apparently suppressed HCC cell proliferation, migration, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Mechanism exploration revealed that TRG-AS1 acted as a molecular sponge of miR-4500 to regulate BACH1. MiR-4500 silencing or BACH1 overexpression in BACH1-downregulated cells fully rescued cell proliferation migration, invasion and EMT progress.

Drobne najdbe materialne kulture in živalskih kosti na lokacijah opisujejo poznoantični način življenja in gospodarstva v odvisnosti od socialnega statusa prebivalstva.

strategy and a local excision strategy including patients with a near clinical complete response. A major issue is the selection of patients according to the initial tumor staging or the response assessment. Despite modern imaging improvement, identifying complete response remains challenging. A better selection could be possible by radiomics analyses, exploiting numerous image features to feed data characterization algorithms. The subsequent step is to include baseline and/or pre-therapeutic MRI, PET-CT, and CT radiomics added to the patients’ clinicopathological data, inside machine learning (ML) prediction models, with predictive or prognostic purposes. These models could be further improved by the addition of new biomarkers such as circulating tumor biomarkers, molecular profiling, or pathological immune biomarkers.

A series of electroactive shape memory polyurethane (SMPU) nanocomposites were synthesized from poly(tetramethylene ether) glycol (PTMG), 4,4-methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) (MDI) and 1,3-butandiol ...(1,3-BD) with the addition of various amounts of thermally reduced graphenes (TRG) which were chemically modified with allyl isocyanate (iTRG). The effects of iTRG on electroactive shape recovery behaviors as well as the conventional direct heat actuated SMPU material have been studied in terms of morphological, thermal, mechanical, electrical properties and thermomechanical cyclic behavior. It was found that significant increases in electrical conductivity and temperature were obtained high iTRG contents (>2%) to electrically actuate the nanocomposite, along with large increases in glass transition temperature (Tg) and initial modulus with a dramatic drop in elongation at break.
Mobile ad hoc networks includes self-sustaining mobile nodes that are self-making with no predefined foundation and buildup associations amongst themselves to develop exceptionally powerful ...topologies due to the nodes mobility in the network. Therefore, due to mobility of the nodes the wireless links may establish (disestablish) implying that the probability of successful communication increases (decreases). Most of the researchers have observed the network performance using binary model of communication links based on Euclidean distance between nodes and the radio range of the mobile nodes i.e., a free space model or line of sight model. In general, signal can reach the destination through different paths and in such cases the signal strength decreases between nodes due to various atmospheric effects such as noise, fading or interference as the distance increases. In this paper, the proposed methodology uses the free space two ray ground propagation model to determine the connectivity of the network during mission time, which helps in determining the network performance (average hop count and path reliability) of the network through simulations in MATLAB. The obtained results shows that the reliability of a homogeneous mobile ad hoc network reduces because of propagation of the signals. Though the reliability values are less, the network is still reliable and it gives an idea for the user to deploy the mobile ad hoc network in a suitable terrains.
To assess whether changes in diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) and (18) F-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ((18) F-FDG PET/CT), correlate with treatment response ...to neoadjuvant therapy (NT), as expressed by tumor regression grade (TRG), from locally advanced gastric adenocarcinoma (GA).
Seventeen patients underwent both DW-MRI and (18) F-FDG-PET/CT scans before and after the end of NT. Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and mean standardized uptake value (SUV) corrected for partial volume effect (PVC-SUVBW-mean ) were evaluated and compared with histopathological TRG.
Pre- and post-NT and percentage changes for ADC and PVC-SUVBW-mean were assessed. Post-NT ADC and ΔADC showed a significant inverse correlation with TRG (r = -0.71; P = 0.0011 and r = -0.78; P = 0.00020, respectively) and significant differences in their mean values were found between responders (TRG 1-2-3) and nonresponders (TRG 4-5) (P = 0.0009; P = 0.000082, respectively). No correlations with TRG were found for pre-NT ADC and for all PVC-SUVBW-mean values as well as between ΔADC and Δ PVC-SUVBW-mean .
DW-MRI seems more accurate than (18) F-FDG-PET/CT and ADC modifications may represent a reproducible tool to assess tumor response for GA.
TRG-AS1 has been proved to inhibit cancer progression, whereas its effect on bone metastases of breast cancer is unknown. In this study, we determined breast cancer patients with disease free ...survival is longer in breast cancer patients with high TRG-AS1 expression. Moreover, TRG-AS1 was downregulated in breast cancer tissues and even lower in bone metastatic tumor tissues. Compared with parental breast cancer cell MDA-MB-231, TRG-AS1 expression was downregulated in MDA-MB-231-BO cells with strong bone-metastatic characteristics. Next, the binding sites of miR-877–5p on TRG-AS1 and WISP2 mRNA were predicted and result showed that miR-877–5p could bind to 3′UTR of TRG-AS1 and WISP2. Subsequently, BMMs and MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured in the conditioned media of MDA-MB-231 BO cells transfected with TRG-AS1 overexpression vector, shRNA and/or miR-877–5p mimics or inhibitor and/or overexpression vector and small interfering RNA of WISP2. TRG-AS1 silencing or miR-877–5p overexpression promoted MDA-MB-231 BO cell proliferation and invasion. TRG-AS1 overexpressing reduced TRAP positive cells, decreased TRAP, Cathepsin K, c-Fos, NFATc1 and AREG expression in BMMs, and promoted OPG, Runx2 and Bglap2 expression, and decreased RANKL expression in MC3T3-E1 cells. Silencing WISP2 rescued the effect of TRG-AS1 on BMMs and MC3T3-E1 cells. In vivo results showed that tumor volumes significantly decreased in mice injected with LV-TRG-AS1 transfected MDA-MB-231 cells. TRG-AS1 knockdown markedly reduced the number of TRAP+ cells and the percentage of Ki-67+ cells and decreased E-cadherin expression in xenograft tumor mice. In summary, TRG-AS1 acts an endogenous RNA, inhibited breast cancer bone metastasis by competitively binding with miR-877–5p to upregulate WISP2 expression.
