The guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2009 regarding hand hygiene (HH) in health care provided health care professionals with scientific evidence that argued that HH ...principles should be respected when dealing with patients. Despite the passage of years and strenuous attempts to introduce these recommendations to the Polish health care facilities for the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAI), these principles are still not being implemented in an optimal way for the patient's safety.
The aim was to examine the views and attitudes of physicians (L) and nurses (P) towards the WHO rules of hand hygiene.
The study was performed by means of a diagnostic survey using a questionnaire of our own design; random sampling was used. The study involved 231 LP: 173 (74.9%) women, 58 (25.1%) men, including 93 (40.3%) doctors and 138 (59.7%) nurses. The study was conducted in a multiprofile hospital in Małopolska in 2017. The difference between what the respondents think (their views) and what they do in reality (what attitudes they display) was examined in relation to WHO principles, such as wearing natural short nails and jewelry on their hands.
Negative practice of observing these HH principles in relation to views was detected (R = -0.014, p<0.05, R2 = 0.016). Respondents supported the view that the ring could affect HAI and rarely used it in practice, the practice was positive (R = 0.298, p <0.001, R2 = 0.085). Women strongly emphasized the view that wearing long nails has an impact on HAI spread, but in practice they often declared keeping long nails, practice was negative (R = -0.241, p <0.01, R2 = 0.054). In response to the question about the impact of nail painting on the spread of HAI, this view was poorly represented, in practice some of them wore painted nails, the practice was negative (R = -0.226, p <0.01, R2 = 0.045).
Despite high support for the principles of hand hygiene, in practice, these principles were not always respected, the impact on the practice was negative in areas such as: general adherence to the HH principles, wearing long and painted nails. The compatibility of views with practice was detected in relation to wearing a wedding ring.
BACKGROUND. Penile strangulation is a rarely described medical emergency. Removal of the strangulating object is challenging, with a lack of proper guidelines. OBJECTIVE. To describe the challenges ...faced during an attempt to urgently remove a metal object (wedding ring) constricting an erect penis. METHOD. We report a case of penile strangulation with a wedding ring in an adult man who presented at Van Velden Hospital casualty department, Limpopo, South Africa, and review the related literature. RESULT. The ring was successfully removed using an aspiration technique (via a pink needle). CONCLUSION. No proper guidelines exist for the treatment of this condition, so the 'best method' is the one with a successful outcome.
The present study focuses on the diamond wedding ring context in order to measure the effect of two important variables for consumption. The first one is the effect of the independent/interdependent ...self-construal factors in addition to self-concept clarity. The second one is the intersection effect of these self-related concepts with materialism on socially motivated consumption. These hypotheses are tested using multiple regression analysis. Analyses are made based on a data sample of 230. It has been found that all of the expected relations, except the direct relation between self-concept clarity and attitude towards diamond wedding ring, besides the moderating role of materialism between the interdependent self-construal and self-concept clarity and attitude towards diamond wedding ring, are significant. However, it is seen that the sign of the relation between interdependent self-construal and attitude towards wedding ring was negative. The present paper argues that these contradictory results may be due to cultural factors.
Individuals are often restricted to indirect cues when assessing the mate value of a potential partner. Females of some species have been shown to copy each other's choice; in other words, the ...probability of a female choosing a particular male increases if he has already been chosen by other females. Recently it has been suggested that mate-choice copying could be an important aspect of human mate choice as well. We tested one of the hypotheses, the so-called wedding ring effect-that women would prefer men who are already engaged or married-in a series of live interactions between men and women. The results show that women do not find men signaling engagement, or being perceived as having a partner, more attractive or higher in socioeconomic status. Furthermore, signs of engagement did not influence the women's reported willingness to engage in short-term or long-term relationships with the men. Thus, this study casts doubt on some simplified theories of human mate-choice copying, and alternative, more complex scenarios are outlined and discussed.
During the past decade a significant ascend in growth of Information and Communication (ICT) Technology has been observed. This growth has been also been witnessed in abutment of social network ...infrastructure. Nowadays professional and social network portal are the most prominent over the internet. This prominence create a pressing need to device hand held wearable's for effective and efficient social communication. In the literature Tangible User Interface (TUI) has been proposed as a potential candidate for this issue. However, more innovative and interactive concepts are the open area in TUI domain. In this paper we have presented a new concept for TUI. This TUI is primarily comprises of emotions transfer kit which includes, but not limited to, wedding ring and friendship band share your live events and emotions with your love ones.
