  • Measurements of trace constituents at the high alpine background station, Sonnblick
Puxbaum, Hans ; Gomišček, Boštjan ; Radunsky, K.
Within the mainframe program of TOR, continous ozone measurements were performed at the Sonnbilck Observatory site at 3106 m a.s.l. The annual average ozone values for 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1994 were ... 48.2 ppb, 47.3 ppb, 48.1 ppb, 46.2 ppb and 50.5 ppb, respectively. The seasonal pattern shows a spring maximum in April-May and a summer maximum during the months of July and/or August. Over 300 vertical profiles of ▫$O_3 were recorded from the bottom of the valley (1600m a.s.l.) to the Sonnblick Observatory (3106 m a.s.l.) during five campaigns in the years 1990 and 1991. From the dynamic behaviour of the profiles we concluded that transport processes were the dominant factor for the fluctuation of the vertical ozone distribution. The diurnal ozone variation and ozone profiles indicate that this site represents background conditions, however during nice weather situations in summer months the daily boundary layer can rise above the measurement station.$▫
