Electives for medical, nursing, dental and pharmacy students, as well as doctors, to tropical countries have been part of the activities of the Sectionfor Tropical and Travelling Medicine of the ...Slovene Medical Associationfor the past fourteen years. By means of a questionnaire, data was collected from participants in order to analyse these electives. It is our estimate that over 200 students and doctors have participated in these electives to date, working in Africa, South and Central America, Asia and Oceania. Most of the electives took place in Africa and the country most oftenvisited was Zambia. The number of participants travelling together for anelective was from 2 to 9. Most of them were in the 7th year of their studiesat the time of the elective.
