  • Tranzitorna evocirana otoakustična emisija kot presejalni test za neonatalno izgubo sluha : magistrsko delo

Background. In Slovenia a child's hearing loss is recognised during the first and the second years of age. Articulation and speech development depend on thehabilitation of sound perception in the ... first months of life. A newbornćs hearing loss can be recognised by screening for hearing loss. The whole population must be tested to detect a single child with a developmental handicap. For this purpose methods of watching newbornćs reaction to the sound, measurements of the transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAE) and of acoustic potentials of the brain stem are used. The aim of the research wasto use the TEOAE test on newborns with and without the risk of hearing loss. It was presupposed that the TEOAE was more seldom evoked in the newbornswith than in the newborns without the risk factors for hearing loss. It was also expected that the TEOAE could be evoked by a 66 dB click although an 80 dB click is usually used. We strove to estimate health service load and benefits because of the TEOAE screening. Patients and methods. Two hundred and fifty-four newborns were included in the research at the Ljubljana Maternity Hospital. In the study group 122 newborns were included with one or more risk factors for hearing loss, otlined by the American Pediatric Academy in 1994. The control group included 132 newborns without the risk factors for hearing loss. The risk factor data and other anamnestic data were obtained from maternity passes, labour protocols, temperature papers and from a book ofclinical examinations of the newborns. Newborns were tested on the second day after birth or later. We made an otoscopic examination of both ears. We measured the TEOAE of both ears at a 66 dB click and if needed with an 80 dB click. We rang the bell 30 cm apart from a newbornćs ear so that the last one could not see it. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
