  • Bending of beams in superelasticity domain
    Kosel, Franc ; Bundara, Borut
ǂThe ǂpaper deals with bending of beams made of shape memory material (SMM). The research is focused on the modelling of a bending process in the superelasticity region, which is one of the ... characteristics of SMM. On the basis of a chosen physical model, a computer program has been set up for numerical modelling of the stress-strain and displacement state in a beam made of a SMM exhibiting superelasticity, subjected to bending load. The proposed physical model has been verified experimentally using specimens made of Ni-Ti alloys. The shape-memory effect is an unique property that some alloys posses according to which, after being deformed at one temperature, they recover their original shape upon being heated to another temperature. The built-in memory is produced by the martensitic transformation.
