  • Kontrastivna analiza epistemično modalnih in metadiskurzivnih elementov v slovenskih in francoskih mnenjskih besedilih v spletnih medijih : magistrsko delo
    Mervič, Monika
Modality, which is characterised by speaker's attitude towards the utterance expressed or his opinion about the message, is considered one of the most complex fields of linguistics. It is divided ... into epistemic and deontic types. The present master's thesis is focusing on epistemic modality which deals with the speaker%s attitude towards the trustworthiness of what is said. The other field dealing with speaker's attitude towards what is being communicated is metadiscourse, especially the interactional part, offering a set of means by which the author interacts with his readers. The aim of the present research was to analyse elements expressing epistemic modality gathered through the corpora of comparable Slovene and French online media opinion articles as well as drawing parallels with the interactional metadiscourse. The latter was carried out on the basis of the two separated corpora of Slovene and French metadiscoursive elements. The analysis of elements expressing epistemic modality focuses mostly on differences in expressing the above mentioned elements in Slovene and French, which is an important part of translation. Parallels between the elements expressing epistemic modality and metadiscoursive elements were shown using a graphical display.
