  • Overview of hydrogen technology adoption to energy system [Elektronski vir]
    Krog, Franco ...
In times of high energy prices, concern for the environment, the desire to reduce emissions, and the need for self-sufficiency, we are looking for alternatives. One of these alternatives is gaseous, ... non-fossil hydrogen. Hydrogen H2 is the simplest stable molecule suitable for zero-emission combustion or use in fuel cells. Its use is also very diverse, as it plays a role not only in the energy system, but also in other sectors especially in industry. Therefore, this study first presents the complexity of the energy system involving hydrogen and then provides an overview of promising technologies, focusing on the conditions under which their use is reasonable. To this end, the economic potential for each process is determined after applying the stoichiometric material balance. The technologies considered in this paper are the co-production of thermal energy and electricity using fuel cells based on alkaline technologies. Technologies for the production of hydrogen are also presented, such as gasification of biomass, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, production of hydrogen from ammonia and, most importantly, electrolysis.
