  • Indomethacin molecules adsorbed in the isostructural MIL-101 frameworks [Elektronski vir] : a solid-state NMR view

    In the last decade, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have received growing attention as a promising group of materials for efficient and controlled drug delivery. MOFs combine the advantages of both ... organic and inorganic drug carriers - they can encapsulate a wide variety of drugs and their tunable structure and porosity enhances loading capabilities and release control. In this contribution, we report about the solid-state NMR study of indomethacin molecules adsorbed in the isostructural MIL-101 frameworks. Indomethacin solutions of four different concentrations were added dropwise onto a fine layer of MIL-101 frameworks with different metal centers (Al, Cr, Fe) synthesized with either terephtalic or aminoterephtalic acid. 1H, 27Al, 1H-13C CPMAS and 1H-15N CPMAS NMR spectra were then recorded on 600 MHz Varian system with 3.2 mm Varian MAS probe. Solid-state NMR spectroscopy provides valuable information about the composition and the structure of framework materials. The state of the adsorbed drugs can also be investigated because NMR spectroscopy offers an insight into intermolecular and intramolecular interactions between the adsorbed drug molecules as well as between these molecules and the MIL-101 frameworks. Comparison of 1H-13C CPMAS NMR spectra of as-synthesized MIL-101 frameworks and frameworks impregnated with different indomethacin concentrations can also serve as a quantifying technique for determining the drug loading efficiency.
