  • The development of constructed wetlands in countries of Alpe-Adria : research projects

    Specific industrial, agricultural and infrastructure activities are to a great extent overloading surface waters and their self-cleaning abilities. Sanitation of the ecologically most affected areas ... is being demanded to dominish and eliminate the consequences of overloaded waters. Therefore, tendencies appeared to develop simple, low cost and efficient alternative methods of treatment. At the beginning of the 1970 waste water treatment systems using macrophytes were developed. To further develop this method and to determine the appropriateness and possibility of such treatment, many so called constructed wetlands were installed since 1980ʹs world-wide.
