  • A functional region - a model for Slovenia? [Elektronski vir]

    Slovenia has a many (in most cases) small municipalities, too small regarding their development. Consequences of this are reflected in uneven development of various parts of the country, in the ... necessity for greater attractiveness concerning tourism, investment opportunities and the establishment of shopping and logistical chains, because out of 212 municipalities, 111 do not meet the statutory minimum level for the establishment of the municipality. Neighboring Austria faces a similar problem. The formation of uniform regions, their connectedness and openness to cross-border cooperation are crucial for effective development of Slovenia as a whole, which will stimulate the development of the regions as they are defined on the basis of functional networking. This paper presents the conceptual framework of establishing a functional region in Slovenia.
