  • Mechanical and structure properties of polymer blends

    ǂThe ǂinfluence of the structure of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and chlorinated thermoplastic polyurethane (CTPU) as well as the amount of acrylonitrile in styrene/acrylonitrile (SAN) on the ... Young modulus (E) was studied. The experimental E have been investigated and compared by theoretical E calculated with semilogarithm additive model and the simple parallel model. Comparison showed that the simple parallel model gives better results and it is more suitable then the semilogarithm additive model. The best accordance between experimental and theoretical values was found for blends of TPU/SAN 27/75 blends for SAN containing 34 wt.% of acrylonitrile. The morphology of blends was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The regular distribution of TPU in SAN observed by DIGISCAN/FDC software program for SEM confirms that blending of polymers in solution is a sufficient method to obtain a fine dispersion of TPU and SAN.
