  • Sustainability assessment of fuel cell and hydrogen technologies integration into the military site providing green hydrogen and sector coupling for public mobility
    Mori, Mitja ...
To support the energy transition in the defence sector, transport, and power generation sector, a tool was developed to help to convert military sites from an energy consumer to an energy positive ... hub (prosumer) and ensure autonomous operation in the case of emergencies. The coupling of RES (PV and wind) with electrolyser, hydrogen storage, PEM fuel cell and H2- filling station with the existing energy system was done to cover the dynamic energy consumption of the site and hydrogen dynamics for mobility sector. With that it was accomplished (i) a stand-alone green energy system for military sites, (ii) convert the military site to energy positive hub, (iii) and achieve autonomous energy operation. To check the sustainability of the energy system the environmental and economic assessment was done along with technical and technological assessment. Results, presented on the case of Slovenian military site with PV and wind turbine RES, showed that it is possible to design the fully RES energy hub.
