Supply air which flows ... downward the vertical thermo active system transfers natural convection into mixed convection. This enlarges the potential of usage of environmental sources for free heating and cooling of the buildings. We realized that such system had not been researched and parameterized before. We have done our experimental research work in thermostatic enclosed space in size of real room, which has vertical thermo active building system and it has been mechanically ventilated. We have firstly researched effects of room geometry and obstacles in room to the natural and mixed convection. We have continued experimental research work with convection over vertical thermo active building system under boundary conditions of natural and mixed convection. After that multiparametric models for average and local heat transfer coefficients and Nusselt numbers were developed, based on experimental data of local convective heat fluxes over thermo active building system. Those models were used in a numerical building energy simulation study for a typical office room. We showed that coupling of mechanical ventilation and thermo active building systems significantly enlarges convective heat fluxes, reduces energy needs for cooling and enhances the economics of free heating and cooling systems.
