  • Impact of erythropoietin on myocardial infarction size: a pilot, retrospective study in the particular case of resuscitation after cardiac arrest due to AMI [Elektronski vir]
    Strnad, Matej ...
Objective Aim of this pilot, retrospective study was to investigate the effects of intravenous erythropoietin (EPO) given during cariopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the myocardial infarction size ... measured by serial troponin I levels and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients due to acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods We retrospectively reviewed charts and compared OHCA patients due to AMI treated with EPO (n = 11) with OHCA patients due to AMI treated with 0.9% NaCl (control group = 5). Results Myocardial infarction size measured by troponin I (TnI) levels did not reach the statistically significant differences between the EPO group and control group (median values [IQR]; TnI on admission 1.00 [0.71-3.11] vs. 0.53 [0.22-15.23] Î%g/l, p=0,827; TnI after 6 hours: 25.63 [6.41-53.42] vs. 82.27 [15.17-100] Î%g/l, p=0.440; TnI after 12 hours: 44.97 [11.67-100] vs. 22.60 [2.38-45.47] Î%g/l, p=0.456; TnI after 24 hours: 17.89 [16.17-88.09] vs. 23.14 [3.78-81.73] Î%g/l, p=0.604). LVEF was also not different between EPO and control group (median values [IQR]; 45 [25-59] % vs 50 [39-54] %; p= 0.931). Conclusions This small pilot study showed that evaluation the effect of EPO on myocardial infarction size in cardiac arrest patients is feasible and suggests that there is no difference in mycoradial infarction size measured by serial TnI levels between compared groups.
