  • Optimizing scale factors of the PolyJet TM rapid prototyping procedure by genetic programming

    The article presents the results of our research on the implementation of genetic programming methods in the optimization process of scale facor values used in PolyJetTM rapid prototyping procedures. ... The first step in our research was to test the influence of the recommemnded scale factor values on the dimensional accuracy of the finished parts. Then, genetric programming was used in the optimization of scale factor values regarding the part`s properties. Finally, the optimized values were tested on another test series of parts. The optimized scale factor values yield better results in terms of accuracy than the values recommended by the manufacturer. Due to the large increase in the part`s build time/cost the data range of the Z-axis dimensions of our test series was somewhat narrow, leaving the detailed study of the Z-axis scale factor values for further research. The optimized scale factor values can be used in the RP machine software package in order to achieve higher accuracy of manufactured prototypes. This paper can be used as a guideline in the implementation of genetic programming in optimization process of various manufacturing parameters of RP technologies. Aditionally, any user of the PolyJetTM RP machine can use the optimized csale factor valuesdescribed in this paper.
