  • Species composition and vitality of macrophytes in different types of lakes = Pojavljanje makrofitov in njihova vitalnost v različnih tipih jezer
    Mazej, Zdenka ; Gaberščik, Alenka
The species composition and physiological vitality of macrophytes throughout the 1997 vegetative season are presented in seven Slovene lakes of different types. The lakes studied differ in origin, ... age, local climate, trophic state, geomorphology, and human activity in the watershed. Physical, chemical, and biological factors in the lakes results in different macrophyte species composition and survival strategies. Populations of the same species show similar strategies of appearance and adaption to these factors. The composition of species in alpine lakes differed from that in lowland lakes, and fewer changes in the abundance of species were detected. Plant vitality was estimated measuring dark respiration rates, the photochemical efficiency of PS II, and the terminal electron transport system activity of leaf tissue. The vitality varied with respect to the prevailing conditions in a specific lake and according to the seasonal dynamics of the plants and their plasticity. Under high-stress conditions occuring in summer such as the lack of CO2, higher temperature, and algal blooms, species that tolerare low light and all factors connected with this phenomenon were the most successful.
