  • Zdravljenje atopijskega dermatitisa s ciklosporinom = Therapy of atopic dermatitis with cyclosporine

    Background. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic dermatosis which manifest already in the infantile period of life, and then prolongs for years just to lose later its typical signs in the clinical picture. ... In some patients it lasts over the age of growing up, and it persists all life. In case of severe forms of atopic dermatitis immunosuppressive treatment with cyclosporine is used as an alternative method. Methods. Considering the patients's past medical history as well as thorough clinical evaluation we treated with cyclosporine 8patients having a more serious degree of atopic dermatitis not responding to conventional treatment. Results. 4 patients showed considerable improvement while 3 were completelly cured. In one patient the treatment with cyclosporinewas not successful. The longest time of remission was 2 years. Discussion. The immunosuppressive cyclosporine can be succeddfully used as an alternative to conventional treatment with antihistaminic and corticosteroids topically and systematically. It seems to be safe in younger patients. Conclusion. Our small number of treated patients having a more severe form of atopic dermatitis showed very impressive results not only in the clinical picture but also in the quality of the patient's life: better personal outlook, and disappearing of the disturbing and tiresome itch.
