    All over the world, short-term and long-term nursing care are a part of holistic health care. The existing needs for nursing departments are high alsoin our country. The introduction of nursing ... departments would lessen the pressure on hospitals and enable an easier transition from hospital to home or institutional care. The feasibility study of a nursing department was the starting point of the project for such a department at the Hospital Golnik - the department for lung and allergic diseases. The results of the study revealed the need for such a department in our hospital and were the basis for the determination of the structure of the staff in the light of the nursingcare performed and the needs of the patients who would occupy it, as well as for the national project to find out the needs for nursing beds in Slovenian hospitals. The composition of the team should multidisciplinary. Clear criteria for admission should be set as well as upper time limit of the stay on such a ward. Also in Slovenia, nursing department would enable better quality of care of patients, as well economical savings.
